TWO-SHOT: "So—you're upset," he says with a nonchalant nod and discreet adjustment of his slightly too-tight khaki corduroys. She blinks at him, her expression alternating between indignation and incredulity and flat-out fury. He had been right about her being pretty beneath the intimidation tactics. HG/DM. This was basically your typical New Adult novel set at a college with a frat boy (Draco - wtf) and our resident nerdy girl (Hermione) and all the dumbass tropes and scene progression that come with this genre. It was interesting to see these characters in this type of characterization, but it's DEFINITELY not a favorite at all.
FOUR STARS—i loved this and will read and reread anything Provocative Envy writes. she is incredibly talented and does an amazing job infusing any situation with pathos and humor. her ability to write class, american politics, and frat boy feel is unparalleled.
in this story, frat boy and political scion draco malfoy meets the hapless, failing-up harry potter at an exclusive political club dinner, and it's hate at first sight. punches are thrown, and a burning feud is born, with mean-spirited pranks galore. a few days later, hermione granger espies draco on campus, marches up to him, and throws his own coffee in his face in defense of her BFF. draco is in love. what follows is a tentative courtship with so much feeling and hilarity. my only complaint about the story is that i never wanted it to end and it did, pissing me off. the texts with blaise were grounding, contextualizing, and heave-snort-laughing hilarious.
