This book has a good moral for young readers. I did, however, find that the transitions from one chapter to the next were disjointed. I just felt the book didn’t flow well. This being said - my 7 year old enjoyed the book. So, it’s a win.

{My thoughts} – This is a fun new mermaid book for young children. Nixie is a about to be able to join the Royal Mermaid Rescue Crew like all the others in her class. In order to join the Royal Mermaid Rescue Crew she has got to choose a seapony that she’d like to have as her partner at the upcoming ceremony.

Nixie isn’t sure who she wants for her seapony. What she does know is who she is sure she doesn’t want as her partner. When the ceremony takes place she ends up being the last to choose, and with the seapony that she didn’t want to be partnered with. She tries to be the better persona and tries to make the best out of it, but Rip makes it really hard for her.

I really liked this book. It was a fast read and it helps to show children that it is possible to find friendship and some of the most unlikely individuals. It also shows children that it is a good idea to try and get to know someone before completely making your mind up about them, because in the end they might just surprise you!

I recommend this book for any child that enjoys reading about mermaids and seaponys. It’s a bonus if they enjoy reading about princesses as well, since Nixie is a mermaid princess.

"It was great. I loved it! I like that Nixie and Rip both became friends." - my six year old, who loves mermaids

Nixie is a mermaid princess who wants to join the rescue team. She's disappointed when paired with seapony Rip, as the partnership is for life once they take their oath. At first she pretends to be okay with the pairing so as not to hurt his feelings. She tries to get to know Rip better, but she's a free spirit and he's anything but - always insisting they follow the rules and spend their time studying. He won't even dance. When she attempts to rescue her friends without help, Rip comes to her aid and the two learn to work together.

The ending is pretty abrupt. Nixie teaches Rip to dance, but there's no nice resolution sentence so I flipped expecting another page.

As a parent, I didn't really enjoy how Rip was viewed by everyone, mostly because I was that kid no one liked, but at least everyone is polite and Nixie makes an effort to get to know him, even if they don't mesh well.

This was a fine read about a mergirl who has to pick her sea pony partner to start doing rescue missions. She is last to pick and gets paired with someone she didn't really want to be paired with but they learn that first impressions aren't always right. I feel like sometimes we had a hard time visualizing what was going on because the writing style was a little weird, but overall it was fine!

I used to LOVE this book as a little girl! It’s perfect for girls getting old enough to read chapter books. I loved mermaids and princesses as a little girl, this book has both! Nixie is a mermaid princess and I love the sea ponies!

A great book for young eager readers. The illustrations are cute and they add a great visual to the story. A great starter series to get young readers to build their own libraries.
