This book has been languishing on my bookshelf for quite a while. I finally got around to reading it because I saw that its live-action drama was out on Netflix. So I decided to read the novel while watching the drama at the same time. However, the plot for the drama deviates quite a bit from the novel.
This review is based on the novel.
Situ Mo (司徒末) is a 4th year accounting student soon to graduate from university. However, her true interest lies in advertising, which led her to seek an internship in an advertising company. An old high school friend that she’s been keeping in touch with, Fu Pei (傅沛), who is from another university, begged her to go over to take graduation photos together. She reluctantly obliged and got to meet his dorm mates, including Physics genius, Gu Weiyi (顾未易).
Situ Mo and Gu Weiyi did not get off to a good start, and neither were particularly friendly to the other. Yet in a coincidental turn of events, their mothers happened to be very good friends, which eventually led to Situ Mo staying in Gu Weiyi’s apartment after graduation.
This is a very slice of life story describing the interactions and growth of the relationship between Situ Mo and Gu Weiyi, from strangers to reluctant friends, to housemates, to girlfriend-and-boyfriend, and eventually husband and wife. It depicts the ups and downs of their relationship, the different obstacles they face, getting jealous of love rivals, fighting and then making up with each other.
I think it’s a rather sweet story, despite the fact that neither of them are particularly romantic people. But it is clear, through their fights and their actions, that they love each other deeply.
I have enjoyed journeying together with Situ Mo and Gu Weiyi and would love to read its companion story, 致我们单纯的小美好, next.
Berawal dari suka banget nget nget sama dramanya. Nih, kalau kalian lagi nyari drama soswit ga banyak mikir, banyakan bapernya doang, nonton ini deh percayalah asli nagih bener gaboong.
Setelah tau dramanya dari novel, tentu ya saya langsung cus mencari novelnya. Hoiya karena belum ada penerbit Indo yg terjemahin, jadi gue baca versi translate-an di wattpad gitu (mba translator siapapun kamu, makasih banyak ya!). Tapiii walaupun begitu, gue punya hardcopy ini buku (yaAllah, sampe sekarang masih gue segel itu buku karena gue jg ga paham bacanya gmn sedih trus w beli buat apaan gatau jg :'().
Lanjut..
Drama sama novel judulnya sama ya btw: Put Your Head on My Shoulder.
#baperberkepanjangan.
unfortunately, wouldn't read again and if it wasn't for work, i'd dnf it in the middle. no plot and no character development, just the same situations repeating over and over again. the author just establishes that main characters are a couple now and love each other deeply, but there's no support to this claim. there were some interesting things. like when fmc says that she used to always support her parents because she was afraid otherwise they wouldn't love her. but that's it. she mentions it once closer to the end and never again.
perhaps, this was written solely as a "slice of life". well, in that case i find it rather boring to read how they woke up, went to work, had some food together and got in, essentially, the same fight for three hundred pages.
