This is a prelude to Baby, It’s Cold Outside (Rescue My Heart #1). It ends on a cliffhanger and should not be read by itself.
A runaway author Ivy Blake is on a deadline. Actually, she’s past the deadline and desperate to find some peace, quiet, and inspiration to get her book back on track. She doesn’t plan on a Tennessee blizzard or the bear that causes her to crash.
A grumpy lumberjack Harrison Wilkes isn’t actually a lumberjack, but he’s doing his best impression during this week away from real life. He needs to rest, recharge, and stay the hell away from people, while he makes some major life decisions. He doesn’t plan to be executing a snowbound rescue.
Is it getting hot in here? When Winter Stormageddon traps Ivy and Harrison together, suddenly his one-man cabin feels more cramped than cozy. As more than the fireplace heats things up, Harrison’s starting to think the interruption to his solitude might be worth it. Will the grumpy lumberjack prove to be inspiration or distraction?
Kait Nolan is a RITA® Award-winning Mississippi author who calls everyone sugar, honey, or darlin', and can wield a 'Bless your heart' like a Snuggie or a saber, depending on requirements. She believes in love, laughter, and that tacos are the world's most perfect food. When she's not writing, reading, working the evil day job, or wrangling family (both the two-legged and the four-), you can find her obsessively watching The Great British Bake Off.
My fault for thinking prelude and prequel were the same thing. This is, nothing more - nothing less, the first 6 chapters of Baby, It’s Cold Outside.
So if, like me, you prefer to listen than read &/or like me you already enjoy Nolan’s writing - you’ll want to skip this and just enjoy book 1 in its entirety.
If you aren’t - it’s a freebie opportunity to get sucked into the Rescue My Heart series.

Blurb: A runaway author

This isn't a prequel its the first 6 chapters of Someone Like You so if you were expecting a backstory to the beginning of Ivy & Harrison's book you'd be wrong, and hugely disappointed like I currently am.
The is a prequel to Baby It’s Cold Outside. We meet Ivy, who is a writer, and Harrison, who is an ex Ranger. We get just enough information to get us interested to want more. I enjoy Ms. Nolan’s writing and can’t wait to read Baby It’s Cold Outside to see what, if anything happens between Ivy and Harrison.
Think of this as a prequel , a taste for what’s coming in the full novel titled, Baby, It’s Cold Outside, containing the first six chapters of the story. Definitely a temptation you can’t resist. Ivy Blake and Harrison Wilkes might seem two different individuals, but in fact have more in common than either realizes. When Ivy is rescued during a storm and they end up “snowed in” a cabin, will that be the beginning of something bigger than each one individually? I am off to finding out in Baby, It’s Cold Outside.
Ivy is escaping town to a remote location to avoid her agent and publisher. Ivy is past deadline and is still struggling to start a book. Harrison, a former Special Forces member, just wants time alone after going to a buddy's funeral. After Ivy is rescued by Harrison in wintry conditions, Harrison takes Ivy back to his rental cabin. Now they are snowed in together. This is a prequel, which would you wishing that you had the rest of Ivy and Harrison's story in your hand. This prequel gives you a good sense of the author's writings, which I enjoy.
My first thought upon finishing this book is that I want more of Harrison and Ivy. Ms. Nolan wrote them with a lot of chemistry and it worked!
It is a short book, a prelude, but it moved quickly, stayed on point, had well developed characters, and made me want more of the series. And isn't that the point of writing a prelude?
I'm fast becoming a fan of Ms. Nolan's. Her writing is very well put together, her characters are well thought out and when I finish her books, I want more. She also reminds me of other authors I read automatically, so it looks like she's going on 'the list'. :-)
I read for entertainment and enjoyment. And for me to enjoy a book, it has to be well put together and not just have romance and sex, but a touch of humor, and humanity. This author does all of that! I'll keep reading ...
ok this was actually really, really cute. i definitely want to check out the actual full books. the characters were super cute, and the set conflicts were really amazing. i love getting to see and learn about authors and their struggles, because i find authors and writing super, super interesting. this also just had a really awesome set of tropes you know. it was like a mix between a regular military romance, a ranger romance and a trapped in a snow storm romance. think any military romance, all rhodes lead here and storm all mixed together. this was great. you should defiantly check this one out as soon as possible. i will be reading more.
This is a nice, short novella to start of the Rescue My Heart series. Nothing overly tenuous to read, just easy and enjoyable. It’s also a nice introduction to the couple that are about to take centre stage in Baby, It’s Cold Outside. Admittedly, there is a whole lot of overlap between the two stories, but I did enjoy how this novella fleshes out the beginning and motivations of the primary characters in the technical first story in the series.
I love that this is a story about a novelist trying to escape their deadlines, and an ex-military man trying to escape his memories. I think that the novelist procrastination may be partly based on real experiences. Although I may just be projecting with that theory. However, I know what it’s like to just want to run away and escape from your responsibilities, get a reset on life, and honestly, I think that this is kind of a bit of dream scenario… right up until Ivy almost drives herself off of a mountain.
I was expecting there to be a much more stereotypical novelist and ex-military man. It was a pleasant surprise that this just wasn’t the case for either character. I like that Nolan did take some of the stereotypes you kind of expect (and honestly, I’m reading a romance because of the simplicity of stereotypes), but then turn them into more relatable people. In fact, for someone who is fleeing his demons, the ex-military man is actually incredibly welcoming and accommodating. Likewise, Ivy might be a writer, but she writes about serial killers and has a profiler background – again, not quite the character that you would be expecting.
Against all of this romance and fun of two characters stuck in isolation together, is a great setting. There is something that always strikes me as so romantic about being in an isolated cabin in the snow. Probably because it’s not a situation I’ve ever found myself in. Or honestly ever will. But a great backdrop to a fun story beginning.
I don’t normally write reviews, but this one, I had to. This one bothered me. This was a quick little read, listed as the prequel to Baby It’s Cold Outside. Turns out, it is essentially an alternate beginning to the original meeting of Ivy and Harrison (if you go with the ‘must read yourself’ version as opposed to the audiobook). Some parts have been added or embellished in the prequel, and some thing’s completely changed and different. I like the added detail in the prequel, I like the difference it makes in the story.
Absolutely love this prequel! Harrison and Ivy are both very deep, multifaceted characters who find themselves physically and metaphorically at the same place and time. In a short span of time, they bring out the very best in each other, trust, protectiveness, reawakening, intuitive understanding and an intense attraction. You absolutely need to read this and then immediately dive into Baby It's Cold Outside for what happens next with these interesting, well crafted characters!
Snowed in With The Ranger is an exciting romantic prequel to the story of Ivy and Harrison. It is very dramatic and entertaining how Ivy meets Harrison especially she is singing in her car as her car is trapped on the side of a cliff during a snow storm. Only Kait Nolan could think of the being in danger and song would go together! Love her writing and can’t wait to finished the story in Baby It’s Cold Outside. I highly recommend reading it and you will enjoy reading it.
I demand more Ivy and Harrison! NOW! I’m nowhere near being done with their story. I love this author’s quirky, zany sense of humor. She always has me in stitches over at least one scene in every book. A pair of loners run away from their responsibilities, seeking peace. It’s either the set up to a great joke or one heck of a story. What if it’s a little bit of both?
I read the original novella of Baby Its Cold Outside, so i jumped for this! I can't wait to finish this teaser taste with the full novel. My original review of the novella included a complaint that it was too short! You'll love Harrison and ivy too, don't hesitate, Kait can't steer you wrong
A prelude to "Baby It's Cold Outside", where a writer behind schedule on providing pages to her publicist meets her Knight in Shinning Armor during a severe snow storm. Overall quality of writing and proofreading are great and will make you want to know what happens next! Snuggle in and enjoy!
I enjoyed this when it was first written as a novella but wanted more and Kait Nolan has given us that.
In this new expanded full story we get to learn so much more about Ivy and Harrison and it really helped fill their characters out. These characters had great chemistry and I'm looking forward to more of Eden's Ridge.
She wrecks her SUV and goes over the edge in the blizzard. He stops when he sees the guard rail gone. He repels down and saves her. I really liked this story and got into it but it is a cliff hanger that I'm not fond of. Especially when you like the characters and want to know what happens to them. That's why 4 stars.
This was a fun build-up to a series. Ex-Ranger Harrison rescues a woman whose vehicle nose-dived into a ditch while trying to avoid a moose. They tentatively explore each other's reasons for being on the same route. Looking toward learning more about them, myself.
This prequel is a must-read! Baby it’s Cold Outside is a great freestanding story; but this gem of a backstory makes it an even richer experience!! Both Ivy and Harrison are fascinating, complex characters. Their individual adventures that bring them together set the stage for an amazing relationship!
Ivy Blake has writers block, in an attempt to avoid a deadline she decides to go to a spa in Tenesssee where she accidentally drives off a mountain. Harrison Wilkes, ex Ranger, comes to her rescue.
If you've already read Baby, It's Cold Outside than you really don't have to read this prequel as very little new information is provided. That said, I loved the characters and how they interacted with each other.
This book is a short prequel to Baby it's cold outside. I loved the prequel so I can't wait to read the next book. I need to know what happens between Harrison and Ivy.
I have been provided with a review copy of Snowed In With The Ranger by the author for an impartial review. This is a preview into the newly revised Baby, It’s Cold Outside book. So only read this book if you are okay with cliffhangers or if you can immediately go buy the full length novel.
I am convinced that I read this short story already, but it didn't keep me from reading it again. It had me laughing at her singing at the top of her lungs, but terrified at the predicament that she found herself in. Cute short story.
I'm glad the author warned at the beginning of the cliffhanger, so I am ready as I already bought it, lol. For the record, there are no spice scenes, but the buildup is there. I love how well it is written setting up the relationship and excited for Someone Like You.
I love me a corny, predictable book. And Kait Nolan nails that department every single time. This was a very quick read, but very entertaining nonetheless.
