Pat Mills, born in 1949 and nicknamed 'the godfather of British comics', is a comics writer and editor who, along with John Wagner, revitalised British boys comics in the 1970s, and has remained a leading light in British comics ever since.
His comics are notable for their violence and anti-authoritarianism. He is best known for creating 2000 AD and playing a major part in the development of Judge Dredd.
I don't even know where to start - I love everything about this second volume of Requiem vampire knight.
The inhabitants of Resurrection (the inverted hell world) want to depose Dracula and put Kryptos - suffering from juvenile dementia on the throne. Caught in the midst of this battle is our protagonist Requiem, who learns that he is the reincarnation of a Teutonic Knight warrior Thurim.
In this satirical inverted universe anything goes and almost everyone turns up - we have Toquemada as a werewolf, Hitler, Nero channelling his inner Frank N'Furter, Dracula, Elizabeth Bathory. There is also heavily filmic reference with nods as diverse as Terminator to Black Sunday. A delirious feast of the senses with the most stunning artwork I've ever beheld in a graphic novel.
My favourite sequence is probably the scene where Sabat visits the arch hierophant on board the giant floating pyramid. Ancient Egyptian cyberpunk stunningly rendered in luminous green. Words fail me. I had to scan in the page with the fleet of ships and promptly set it as my desktop - the artwork is that good.
The imagination is staggering. The satire biting, the artwork astonishing from ship design to costume. The characters are larger than life and the story is interesting.
Easily my favourite graphic novel series of all time, its freaky, weird and just stunning.
The art in these is fantastic, if you don't mind that every single page looks like a heavy metal album cover.
I can't actually tell if the authors mean to poke fun at the adolescent devil horns ultra-metal satanist aesthetic, or if they are fully embracing it themselves, but every inch of this, both art and prose, drips with every "dark" and "evil" thing a teenage satan enthusiast would cram into a comic, if they could draw really, really, really well.
Content warnings for literally everything, and a note that the main plotline is about an SS officer who continues to pursue his Jewish lover after they are both in hell, with all the insensitivity that implies.
If you can deal with all of the above and enjoy ridiculously well executed art and a reasonably entertaining adventure story crammed with wacky satanic nonsense, have fun with this series.
Super edgy, over the top with an intentionally overdid satanist theme. I love it so far, it reminds me of the days when I discovered metal as a kid and started drawing skulls, monsters, demons and other weird things. Requiem Vampire Knight is that feeling maxed out. Olivier Ledroit is an incredible, you should check out this series if you love gothic art. Just make sure you hide this comic from your religious grandmother because she probably won't get the joke.
Paty Mills e Oliver Ledroit são realmente incríveis. A história continua fantástica e, neste volume, as batalhas estão deslumbrantes!!! Grande roteiro e revelações bem interessantes. Vale cada centavo. Fãs do gênero gótico e hardcore vão gostar.
The art was provided by Olivier Ledroit. He's one of the best comic book artists in the world. I enjoyed his world of beautiful darkness. His also known (in Europe) for extremely popular comic books "Sha" and "Black Moon Chronicles".
