What a nice cookbook this is. I don't know about you, but I am not a fan of cookbooks whose recipes require a massive amount of prep time and call for half a grocery store's worth of ingredients. 5 INGREDIENT VEGAN keeps it simple, with appealing and easy-to-make recipes for a wide variety of meals and sides.

I'm not the most creative cook, so I appreciate the ideas this book gave me. I enjoyed sections such as the multiple ways to upgrade vegan grilled cheese sandwiches. There are also lots of photos!

I like that the author makes use of the many awesome vegan pre-made products in her recipes, such as plant-based sausages. Not only are these products tasty, but they also significantly cut down on meal prep time.

I borrowed this from the library and I definitely want to own it. The recipes are easy, which is a rarity for vegan recipes.

When a cookbook (any book for that matter) begins with a Walt Whitman quote you know you are in for a good read. The quote? Why it’s none other than: “Simplicity is the glory of expression”. Perfect for a book called “Five Ingredient Vegan”.

The author piques my interest in the intro. Look we’ve all been here - you just finished a big household project, or came home late from a day of work/and or shopping...you are hangry as all get out...you open the refrigerator and stare...you open the freezer and stare...you open the pantry and stare...you are getting hungrier by the moment, alas you have no fracking clue what to cook so you eat ice cream or cereal (or a combination of the two!). Well, Nava Atlas (great name) provides easy 5 ingredient meal plans! No more staring into the Frigidaire! Page tab some of your faves in this book and boom! No more wasted time! Real, healthy adult food. Save the ice cream for dessert!

The author also provides information and resources for additional information for anyone new to plant 🌱 based eating.

In a nutshell (nutshells are vegan, I confirmed) this book would be fabulous for folks cooking for one, for those interested in “Meatless Monday” and they don’t know where to begin or those who do not have an arsenal of other plant-based / vegan cookbooks.

I’m a fan of the options in certain recipes that include: “More time / less lazy” and “less time / even lazier“. That’s realistic man!

I’m particularly excited about trying the Zucchini & Polenta Marinara, Baked Sweet Potato Fries with Chipotle Mayonnaise, Spicy Walnut Green Beans, Banana Peanut Butter Ice Cream, and the Mocha-Banana Ice Cream.

As a newbie to a whole food plant based diet, I found this had too many convenience food ingredients, which are a bit too pricey for my family size. She also mentioned items like Peanut sauce, but then gave no preference to brand, or a homemade alternative. Another issue was the number of recipes that had bread in them, which is something I'm trying to cut down on. It's a pretty book, and maybe more beneficial if you're more comfortable with the lifestyle, or are at a weight where you are no longer trying to lose.

Excessive use of spices!!

Used too many items for cooking that are not found in a vegan-wannaa-be's kitchen, not are they available at most grocery stores. The use of too many spices in these dishes makes a jumble of the tastes.

I'm not really a fan of the 5-ingredient genre of cookbooks so I should have known better. Oh well. It was still pretty and I'm sure the recipes are ok, I just don't want to try them.

There are a few recipes I use all the time in this book. I also like that it makes it easy to add any extra ingredients that you have in your pantry
