As an MBA student, learning Organizational Behaviour was an experience that made me realize the importance interpersonal and intrapersonal interactions.
I have learned from this book that there are many different point of views and that, especially in Vancouver, I will encounter a lot of different cultures and values, which complicates the way we perceive the working environment, but at the same time, allows corporations to break up with labels and to diversify.
This makes many of Vancouver organizations to have a culture with a humane orientation, which encourages people to being kind to others. As a woman in the workplace, I think that the idea to develop my business skills in a city that accepts the power of women, allows me to evolve in ways that I am not able in my own country, Mexico, in which the power distance is high and towards men. I have also learned that not only in Vancouver, but in this world, having cultural and emotional intelligence will allow me to understand other people and let my ego aside, which will be particularly helpful to be able to become a better leader. By knowing myself and knowing others, I will have the power to lead a team together towards the same goal.
This got really Orwellian in the middle. It felt like they were teaching me how to manipulate people to serve the good of the business, very much the strategies in here could be used to developed a Big Brother organization. I didn't like that.
