Forget everything you know about motivating others and building a harmonious workplace. If you want to get the best out of people, you must be willing to fight. But, that doesn't mean you become a dominator, nor does coddling others work.
The best leader you've ever had in your life was a liberator--someone willing to fight for your highest good, even at a personal cost. Inside, global leadership experts Jeremie Kubicek and Steve Cockram explain what made that leader so unique, how to become that person yourself, and how to share the same gift with others.
Be one of the few that people actually want to follow Learn the lost art of leadership--the intentional calibration of support and challenge for everyone you lead, your team and your family Become a multiplication master as you learn to bring the best out of people for their highest good and that of the whole team Overhaul entire cultures by focusing on the transformation and empowerment of sub-culture leaders The 100x Leader will help you become--and build--leaders worth following.
Having been to Nepal (but not climbed Mt Everest!) I enjoyed the book's primary analogy of being a leader like a Sherpa -- it's not about how many times you make it to the summit, but about how many other people you help get to the top. The chapters that stood out for me were the one on developing self-awareness and the one on providing high challenge and high support.
My team is already using the "5 Voices". I'm happy to add to our common language the concepts and illustrations from "The 100X Leader."
This book works best as a companion piece for the other GiANT resources. In that context, it's great. However, as a standalone, it's much more theoretical than practical. There's much more emphasis on the end goal, and not a lot of practical advice on getting there. However, with the rest of the GiANT program, it works much better.
Leadership is not my favorite genre of book but after reading this for work I can say this is one of the most enjoyable. It doesn’t overstay it’s welcome being quick to the point and ready to move on. It has practical wisdom and good challenge. It doesn’t run into the pitfalls of the leadership genre and sets itself apart as an enjoyable exploration of leadership.
There are some good leadership principles. Had good discussions with my team as we read this together. Lots of testimonials about “I used to be a self-centered clueless leader and the 100X leader challenge changed my life” ... probably 3 of those per chapter. Also there were a lot of plugs future resources to look into. I think if the book would have focused on it’s own topics, it could have been shorter and cut out some fluff.
Thoughtful look at becoming the type of leader who helps people achieve 100% of their potential and their highest best. Well written and clearly explained, they provided many actionable ideas presented in creative ways. Excellent read!
I enjoyed this book, knowing it is more geared for a corporate setting instead of educatiaon, but I find that I still learn about myself and leadership despite its aim. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys learning about themselves and becoming a better leader.
The running analogy of the Sherpa was amazing and helped make things click. While listening to this book, I thought of so many things I want to implement at work and my personal life to work towards being a 100x Leader! It was conceptual, but also practical and challenging.
Solid and simple advice for leadership. However, as the message is simple, you quickly feel as though the authors keep hammering at the same concept just from various angles, and it begins to feel repetitive.
Some solid, actionable sections toward the middle of the book that I will definitely use. But these guys really beat around the bush more than I would’ve liked and repeated themselves a ton. I get it...Be like a Sherpa and a leader worth following. No need to repeat it 400 times. It almost felt like a teaser trailer or clickbait for a seminar they were holding. If it hadn’t been recommended to me I would’ve stopped after Chapter 2. But glad I didn’t - Just wish the editor would’ve gotten them to trim it down more.

Totally biased here as I’ve been using the tools in this book in a variety of teams for the last couple of years, but the practicality, self-awareness, and communication skills that saturate these pages (and compliment GiANT’s other tools) are a massive value add for any leader.
“Knowing ourselves to lead ourselves” (one of the core maxims of this book) lays the foundation of going deeper than mere behavioral modification to get to the roots of our tendencies and why we think, feel, talk and react the way that we do.
The 100X Leader is like Batman’s “utility belt” for developing healthy leaders and teams; it’s a simple, sticky vocabulary, expressed in visual tools, providing an objective language that has the ability to transform leadership culture.
Don’t expect all of the tools to speak to you at once. Find the 1-2 that stand out, and implement what initially connects for you personally. I’ve found that over time, certain tools that didn’t resonate at first, have been some of the most impactful for me down the road.
For me, the idea of self-preservation in the Influence Model was one of my initial eye-openers; it illuminated many subtle coping mechanisms that I had been prone to taking on in environments I perceived as threatening or antagonistic.
Additionally, the Support/Challenge Matrix has also given me a universal language with many team members to engage hard conversations effectively, with directness and empathy.
Whether or not you dig into this book, definitely recommend checking out their online platform to engage the breadth of their language, tools, and assessments.
Heard about this book via a podcast so was very excited to read it. Listening to the podcast I really related to the concept of leaders acting as sherpa guides up to the mountain top and the emphasis is once you've climbed it to return and help others make the ascent thus the 100x effect. However after reading it I came away a little disappointed as there was some decent enough theory but not enough practical in my opinion.
This is the “How to...” book on positioning yourself to be an influencer in the lives of those you serve and lead. You can’t give something you don’t possess, so the book starts with a good look at who you are and then guides you in helping others do the same.
