Ganz nett, wenn man als kunstinteressierte Person ein paar Gemälde und Skulpturen kennenlernen will. Für jemanden, der sich intensiver mit Kunstgeschichte auseinandersetzt, ist das Buch aber relativ uninteressant. Nicht nur ist die Einteilung in Epochen mittlerweile nicht mehr gängig, auch ist die Auswahl der Gemälde sehr eurozentrisch und diese sind überwiegend von männlichen Künstlern geschaffen. Trotzdem, keine Frage, ein netter Überblick über einige Werke, die man tatsächlich kennen sollte.

This is perfect for those who do not come from an Art background or wish to understand the impact on art on history. It’s a perfect introduction to 50 artworks. This doesn’t mean that these are the top 50 art works that have changed the way we see things but just 50 artworks. It’s a perfect introduction to great paintings and sculptures. It will help you understand where art developed from, who some of those pioneer artists were and how nature, emotion and the human form is depicted.

Super Buch zum Stöbern, liest sich schnell durch und nimmt man immer wieder gern zur Hand

Ich mag diese Reihe, um einen ersten Überblick über ein Thema zu erhalten. Natürlich kann auf 300 Seiten nicht die gesamte Kunstgeschichte mit all ihren bedeutenden Werken abgebildet werde. Aber das Buch hat mir geholfen einen Einstieg zu finden und erste Grundkenntnisse zu lernen.

Very nice read. Loved the explanations and the back stories to the painting. My favourite of them all was The Ambassadors because of the several symbolisms Holbein hid in the paintings.

The paintings are introduced period-wise, chronologically. I personally didn't like later works, and felt earlier works had so much more depth and nuance to them.

But overall, it was super nice to gawk at the paintings and have a quick text to read about them for context.

J’ai plus ou moins apprécié la formule. Je souhaitais apprendre les bases de l’art à travers les oeuvres. Toutefois, le contenu est majoritairement à teneur historique.
