***I received an advanced e-copy from the author in exchange for my honest review
This book takes place many months after the previous book. Clarissa awakens from a coma to having no memory of anything past her wedding to Thatch. This book is a much more serious book. The tone is sort of somber, with the coma, Clarissa losing her memory, and Clarissa, Thatch and Elric all being drained. I have to admit I prefer the fun, lighthearted tone of the previous books more. I still enjoyed hearing the continuation of their story, and I highly recommend this series to all fantasy lovers.
REVIEW: Safe Hex (adult, PNR, political intrigue, magic)
Enjoyment is probably too sadistic a word for describing the reading experience of Safe Hex considering all the horrible trials Clarissa and the other characters go through in this series. Schadenfreude is more like it, along with the hope that eventually, everything will eventually turn out not awful, at the very least-- happy in the best case scenario. Those of us who have read this far in the series know what I mean. I DO hope that there is a happy ending for the non-villain characters. After all they've been through, I will be unhappy if this is not the case.
That is the point of good writing: to tell a good story in order to move the reader emotionally or teach the audience something. To that point I say "good job". Ms Dorie's interesting characters, world and twisty-turnny plot have combined well together to do exactly this for the past 15 books, and could probably do so for several more episodes, or possibly a spin-off series if this is the finale.

This is book 16 of the series.... I love them all! The story line picks up a few months after the previous story. Clarissa has awakened from her coma but she has no memory of anything past her wedding to Thatch. This one is a bit darker not all the fun like the previous ones; more serious story-line. This is due to all the things happening throughout this one. At times I just felt like crying as the situation is just becoming worse or can't tell what is going to happen. Arrgghhh I have nubs instead of nails now as I have chewed them off reading this one!! I hope this isn't the last one of series as I love these characters so much! I highly recommend this series to all fantasy lovers.
I received a free ARC from the lovely author and this is my honest voluntary review.
This is the sixteenth book in the series and is, in my opinion, by far the worst of the entire series. The vast majority of the book is spent with Thatch and/or Elric having sex with Clarissa to restore her powers. There's also secrets being kept from her by Thatch and Elric. The only thing really different is an attack by the Raven Queen on Elric's house where they have been staying.
Okay. First, the book seems like a filler. I don't object to sex in books but way too much of the book is spent on this.
Second, you would think by now that they would realize it was time to stop being always on the defensive. They've had 15 books to figure out some kind of major offensive action against the Raven Queen but nothing has been done. The thing is the Raven Queen and her court have a couple of very major weaknesses that Clarissa and company have never seemed to consider using.
First, all Fae are affected by electronic devices. It decreases their ability to use magic. Surely by now the group would have figure out a way to use various electronic devices against the Raven Queen.
Second, there are various explosives that could be used in an coordinated attack (maybe with other courts joining) against the Raven Queen's castle and those in it.
The problem would be not destroying the tree that is the woman she knows as her mother. If an attack had been carried out before that then the tree/human wouldn't have been a concern.
There are probably other ways they could have attacked. The thing is if they stay on the defensive forever, which it seems they are doing, then they will continue to lose people.
If you don't read the previous books in the series, you just won't have a full appreciation of the references and humor of this, Book 16. The series is actually one long story that continues over much of Clarissa's life. Start with 'Tardy Bells and Witches’ Spells' Book 1 for greatest enjoyment, and read sequentially in order. This is a continuation from Book 15, so if you've already read this far, just go ahead and start Book 16. A quick recap: The Raven Queen did something terrible to Clarissa and Thatch during their disastrous misadventure in the Raven Queen's castle in Book 15. Clarissa has lost her affinity, has amnesia, is paralyzed and is in a coma. Each time she is awakened, some physical pain or painful memory causes her to fall back into a coma. At each awakening, Thatch, Elric, Vega and other friends are by her bedside, trying to keep her awake. After 14 months, the only "cure" seems to be to have daily touch-magic sex with Elric. As usual, misunderstandings and secrets cause problems for everyone, especially having to keep painful memories from Clarissa. Eventually things get quite kinky as Thatch and Elric cooperate to cure Clarissa (think RH). The Raven Queen and her army attack Elric's estate, killing many and abducting Imani. The ending is a cliffhanger, with a decision by all to exact vengeance against the Raven Queen: she must die.
Goodness, goodness, goodness! What *will* happen to Clarissa next?
For those of you keeping score, last time around she went toe-to-toe with the Raven Queen. It didn't end well. Now she's woken up in Prince Elric's estate, but something's wrong. For starters, she can't walk, and both Elric and Felix Thatch are mysteriously weak. And how long has Clarissa been asleep anyway?
This charming series takes a darker AND sexier turn here, so be warned! If you're not familiar with the books, they're kind of like Harry Potter from the teacher's point of view, but with a side of Twilight/50 Shades of Grey. It's an odd combo but it works. Because the plot of this book is basically about Clarissa trying to figure out what happened in the last book, this is probably not the best place to jump into the series if you haven't read anything else from yet, but if you are a fan, buckle up your seatbelts and get out your fans, because there is some very hot action! A ton of fun for fans of sexy, zany fantasy.
Note: Do not let the cover make you think this is for children. This series is definitely for adults only. Think very adult Harry Potter type book.
I spent the whole time reading this book trying to figure out what they were hiding. Di you figure it out?
Great characters, fantastic story line. Gets better and better. Sad that the this may be close to the end of the series. BOO HOO HOO HOO .
I highly recommend reading the series in order. I can honestly say that as this series goes on, you really need to have read the previous books. Even though you might be able to read this one, I feel that it would be easy to lose the significance of what is happening. I have read the previous books and initially I was a little lost in the beginning.
Now that I have them all, I plan to read them from the beginning. Especially since I started the series around book 4?
This my honest and freely given review. I did receive an ARC book.
Clarrisa has been in a coma she is not sure how long and she can't get an answer to her many questions, not even Thatch will explain anything so what is a witch to do. She will do her best to recall or trick or spy her way to answers, that is as soon as she can get around again. While in a coma all her magic has been drained from her body and only touch magic seems to help restore it for a time, the problem is Elric seems to be the only one who has enough magic to really help her which can cause big problems for all, She will recall many things but whose baby did she hold and what happened to her fairy godmother is still a blank, what has the Raven Queen and Thatch have to do with everything. You will need to get back on that broomstick to see, This book does contain a great deal of sex but not the steamy kind. I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review
The Raven Queen is still reeking havoc and causing all manner of problems with Clarissa, Thatch, and Elric. Clarissa is still in the dark on the full story but she keeps picking up bits and pieces about what happened. I like all the story lines for this series but I am getting a wee bit tired of all the sex scenes and that sex seems to cure all the worlds problems, regardless of your partner or partners or whose partner you happen to be with. But all in all a good story and will be sad to see the series end.
I must say, for the most part, I have enjoyed this series. The author has created a world where anything is possible. The characters are well developed and you care about what happens to them. The touches of humor throughout brings a balance to the intense storyline. However, the sexual content ramps up with each installment unnecessarily. If you took out most, not all, of the sex in this book you'd be left with a 100 page novella. For this reason I gave 3 stars. This is the least favorite of mine of the series.
This one made me cry , the ending, oh shush my heart! i shan't give spoilers, but you have to read this book, (start from book 1, if you haven't already) bear with it there are lumps and bumps, and i also agree with Vega on many, many things! But like a true artist Sarina Dorie doesn't half play with your emotions!just as I was growing to hate Thatchy boy well now i kinda like him, even if he does have perfect hair!! I am frightened to keep reading as i don't want this to end!!
Well this book jumped to Clarissa being unconscious and everyone she loves trying to bring her around. This book is very x rayed as the only way to get a drained Clarissa to get her magic back is lots of sex with Aldrid...not Thatch, as he appears to be in the same drained state. Hardly a good start for married life...but is it a start of has Clarissa really been in coma for 18 months!! So many secrets and some missing chunks of what happened after her fairy godmother turned into a tree. The pressure is brewing and with one more book to go it's so exciting.
I admit I couldn’t get into this book as much as some of the others in the series. It was a little confusing as Clarissa spends a good bit of time just trying to get some answers as to what has happened and what is going on, and the story seemed to run a little slow. But if you’ve been reading the whole series (which you should do before you read this one), you’ll want to keep going as this is nearing the end. As usual, this book will end with you wanting to read the next.
I found myself frustrated while reading this book. If it was a movie I'd be yelling at the tv " what the hell is going on". But its not the tv and so I just cried and tried to keep reading. Will she remember or won't she? Clarissa has lost her memory and has been in a coma for over a year and nobody will tell her what's going on. But keep reading it's worth it.
Clarissa has gone through it all, I can't imagine how she is going to get to the other side of all this the victor. I will say though with Vega on her side my money is on them and I hope the best the far out of the Raven Queen! Because as much as I liked this book, there were parts that made me very angry.
This installment of the series can be frustrating in the way a good book that you are invested with the characters can be. Clarissa often makes impulsive and unwise decisions but she always acts with her whole heart. Right when you think she and Felix will have their happily ever after, the saga continues, thankfully.
Our heroine has amnesia and can’t remember anything even her marriage. Her friends try to wake her up and it’s an uphill battle. I love this series and eagerly await to see how it will all unfold. I will be so sorry when this series comes to an end I feel invested with each of these characters.
You made me laugh, but you made me CRY. Wow that's not nice. Bad author. What were you thinking but at the same time so emotional in the crypt. Vega love her so warped and Remember be nice.
Her best book yet! She awakes in her ex fae boyfriends home and has forgotten much of her past. When she starts to remember she wants to go to the Raven Court for answers. But that could mean her death!
As usual I have been unable to put this book down. I have laughed and cried and thoroughly enjoyed every book in this series. Here I have just finished my sixteenth book and can't wait for number seventeen.
Clarissa is suffering memory loss and still fighting the Raven Queen. She has a lot of work to recover these memories, and does so with the some help from her friends
This is really getting good! All the secrets are coming to light and Clarissa has an epiphany regarding the Raven Queen. I can’t wait to read the next book to find out what happens next!
Too much sex it enough plot. Ridiculous to finish the book without an explanation - just seemed like an excuse to see how depraved the characters could get
Omg is all I can say about this book!. omggg.. Strange and twisted happenings in this one if you are following the series. If not, start with book one! You will be hooked!
this book was refreshing. as much as I like this series and Clarissa. she is so dumb, falling for everything etc. i was almost not going to finish the series.
Clarissa has been drained of magic and wakes from a long coma. She doesn’t remember when, who, how or why ... but throughout most of this book, Prince Elric trying to restore her through his fae sexual powers. Her husband, Felix Thatch, has also been drained, and it breaks Clarissa’s heart to see him so pale and weak. Elusive feelings of loss haunt her. There’s a big mystery here, with danger for everyone in Elric’s castle. This book has a cliffhanger, and I can’t wait to see if Clarissa and Thatch can restore their love and magic.
