Queen of the cliffhangers, R.M. Gauthier, picks up her shocking conclusion from her first book in The Mystery of Landon Miller novel series, “Control”, and masterfully continues weaving this shocking tale of suspense, mystery, and intrigue in her second installment, “Bound”. If you thought Alexandria Shaw’s life underwent a major transformation in “Control”, “Bound” takes what was at best an uncertain destiny for her two lead characters—Lexi and Landon—and completely turns it on its head. With Landon abducted by a former associate, we find Lexi doggedly taking up the hunt for the man she loves. The problem is, her insistence on being part of Landon’s recovery is against the advice of even her greatest supporters—and with good reason. What she finds is a tangled web of lies and deceit leading to a dangerous underground world of sexual abduction, criminal activities, and secret organizations.

Gauthier’s “Bound” is a fast-paced psychological drama driven by sexual compulsions, narcissism, paranoia, and obsession. As the author explores Alexandria Shaw’s thought processes and singular motivation to regain the object of her affection, she reveals a woman who—despite getting little feedback on the status of her missing paramour and being kept completely in the dark as to the motivation for his abduction from the professional agencies working his case—will stop at nothing to achieve her goal. Through her main character’s petulant and often irrational behavior, Gauthier clearly demonstrates the irrational nature and narrow-minded focus that blinds Lexi her to the pain and destruction she leaves in her wake, causing a detriment to the achievement of her own goals as well as foiling the plans of the agencies working so hard to find the missing Miller and bring him to safety. In many ways, Gauthier creates an anti-heroine in Alexandria Shaw, who—despite all her good intentions—manages to get so caught up in her own needs, she is blind to the fact that others whom she and Landon love will end up paying the ultimate price.

Whereas I held some degree of empathy, and even admiration, for the Alexandria Shaw that Gauthier created in “Control”, I found her character annoying and hard to tolerate in “Bound”. She seemed quite vacuous through most of the novel, failing to see her inadequacies, and rather than utilize her past experiences to her best advantage, reverting to immature behavior, childish outbursts, and a whole gamut of hysterics in order to pursue her own agenda above all others. Fortunately, Gauthier saves the plot from Alexandria’s many implosions by choosing to reveal those tempting bits and pieces of the mysterious Mr. Miller’s past that I so looked forward to in “Control”. And if you’re looking for the same sort of foreplay and sexual content you found in “Control”, I wish to warn you that you won’t find any of that in “Bound”. What you will learn, however, is that what binds two people together can drastically alter both familial ties and loyal friendships, revealing that love may not be enough to conquer all—even for the two hearts at the eye of this seemingly impenetrable storm.

Well-written “mystery and intrigue”.

The mystery surrounding Landon Miller builds to a heart-pounding crescendo in this fantastic sequel to 'Control'. The action is fast-paced and unpredictable, providing a really effective contrast between those moments of waiting and wondering that heighten the tension and intrigue even further.

Gauthier's characters are for the well-written and believable, and the reader continues to build empathy with Lexi throughout the story. I felt involved in the story and shared in Lexi's frustration and anger with various situations and other characters at various points of the plot. Gauthier very cleverly positions the reader to understand the central character so that her responses feel both reasonable and justified, even though the reader might not personally respond in the same ways. In all honesty, I know Lexi is much more brave than I am, even if her stubbornness is something I can totally relate to.

This was a great read that focused on the mystery and the chase, rather than the "underground lifestyle" portrayed in 'Control', which was really only alluded to in 'Bound'.

I'm really keen for the release of the third book in the series.

Bound...where to begin? Bound is the second installation in The Mystery of Landon Miller and all I can say is...wow! Lexi really grows and comes into her own during this emotional rollercoaster of a ride. The story encompasses a little bit of everything - mystery, suspense, passion, travel, gun fights, car chases and more - all masterfully tied together. And the ending...a twist which had me sitting back in my chair, clapping my hands together and grinning ear to ear. I was NOT expecting that. Very well done Ms. Gauthier, very well done indeed.

I received an ARC from the author.

Uncaged Review: After the cliffhanger of book one featuring Mr Landon Miller, we dive straight in with book two and The mystery of Landon. And the horrible Alistair who claimed Landon as his own sub like years before. Lexi travels to Italy to bring back Landon, will she succeed? This is a awesome read and leaves you on a roller coaster of emotions. I’m desperate to find out what is to happen to Lexi and Mr Miller. Can’t wait until book three is out. Reviewed by Jennifer

Bound #2 - A suspenseful, action-packed, humorous continuation of Control. The beginning is slow, but the pace picks up quickly and keeps it up. Lexi redeems herself, and along with Landon, is full of surprises. Leroy is a great supporting character. If you like stories about the Mafia, read this. For those who care, there's infrequent cursing and no sex. Hopefully, we'll see more of Leroy and Landon; I get the impression there's more to their story.

Control #1 - Not into BDSM, which doesn't get too graphic continuously, just in one scene. Didn't care for Lexi, a weak woman making bad decisions. I didn't trust Landon, a damaged character with more going on than the story lets surface. The story did get interesting, filled with suspense. By the way it ends, I'm assuming there's more to come. Disregarding the subject matter, Control was actually hard to put down once started, even though the first few chapters were slow going. I contacted the author to review her books, not knowing what the book was about.

Freedom #3 - Another suspenseful, intriguing continuation of Control and Bound, which must be read before reading this book. Well written, suspense filled and intriguing and told by Landon, we find out the rest of the story. Ms. Gauthier has done wonderful job with her descriptions, planning and combining bits of Control and Bound as needed; as well as the gamut of emotions experienced. A very addicting, substantial series that must be read. I contacted the author to review her books and luckily it was Landon's story.

Longing - Glad to get background on Leroy, I found him an interesting character in Control and Bound. The author tells interesting, suspenseful, action-packed stories, but does have a problem with grammar, word usage and punctuation. For those who care, she doesn't use vulgar language, and other than one sex scene in Control, there's no sex. There's improvement between Longing and Bound, and I hope to see Leroy and Landon in future books. I was put on a mailing list and received this short story.

The Christmas Miracle Series are a group of short stories concerning a man discovering love and his adaption to the changes that love brings to his life. The stories are interesting and quickly read, although I would have preferred a complete book. On Easter has a cliffhanger ending, but by this book's release, the reader knows there's more to the story yet to come.

Once Upon a Fabulous Time – A collection of stories from six authors. Five of these authors are new to me, but I enjoyed most of the stories. Most of the stories need editing, mainly wrongly used words or spelling errors. I contacted Ms. Gauthier many books ago to review her books.

R.M. Gauthier, Millie’s Story - This book is written with a librarian, the main character, reading mysteriously appearing, demanding-to-be-read books that each contain a fairy tale or story. As the story continues, in betwixt the mysterious books, the librarian grows more interesting, as does her story, and she has a dilemma, which will end her happy existence at the library that she built up over the years. I’ll let you discover which fairy tale she represents.

The mystery of Landon Miller keeps getting bigger and deeper! Just when I think I've come up with the perfect explanation, Ms. Gauthier slings something new my direction and the conspiracy theory wing-nut who lives inside me just gets all a-twitter with grander and crazier possibilities. I dig it!

Whereas the first book showed us a Lexi who was worn down and frustrated, in this book we get a Lexi who is pushed against a wall, ready to break, but still willing to fight tooth and nail for the man she lusts. That's right - I said lust - because I'm still unsure if what they have is love... I'm rooting for love, but at this stage in the game, I think anything goes.

Tensions are high in Bound, literally picking up moments after the conclusion of book one. For those of you who, like me, were screaming WTF at their Kindle / tablet / computer screen or throwing the paperback of Control across their bed, don't expect any instant resolutions. Landon's choices still don't get any real explanation in Bound, but the possibilities are oh-so-tantalizing. Ms. Gauthier has me completely sucked in! I've lost track of how many theories I've created, and I think I'll continue to create outlandish theories until she resolves things for me.

With less Landon page time, there was more of an opportunity to really delve into Lexi's past and some of the secondary characters. Hailey as the rock-solid but hot-tempered BFF is wonderful. Agent Johnson (remember him? the FBI guy asking veiled questions in book one?) is back and develops into a really likable, relatable character. Honestly, he almost stole Leroy's spot as best supporting character. Almost. I think they're tied at this point.

Now, back to that cliffhanger ending from book one: rest assured, the end of Bound isn't quite so shocking. It feels more like a cliff-dangle. Maybe because we were so steamrolled by book one's swan dive off the peak of Mt Everest? I feel quite a bit more at ease this time. Don't get me wrong, I'm chomping at the bit for resolution, but I don't have that feeling that someone (*shakes fist at Ms. Gauthier*) just played soccer with my heart.

The pacing of Bound was excellent, flipping between current events, flashbacks to "that night," and some even bigger flashbacks to events 15 years earlier. The flashbacks were a well-used device, and readers will have an easy time delineating where in time they are as they read.

Fans of mystery, crime, romance or suspense will find happiness in this series. Highly recommended!

Crash, bang, wallop. Sinister secrets. Lexi has a mission to find Landon and bring him home but no-one can/will give her information. Alistair wants him, Lexi needs him but everywhere she turns she hits a brick wall. Suspenseful read, the ending..... jaw dropping. I need another book on Landon and Lexi, need to know their endings.

A Cat-and-Mouse Action-Thriller!

Having read ‘Control,’ (Book 1 of ‘The Mystery of Landon Miller’ Series), where the author introduces her readers to the elusive, mysterious, self-made millionaire Landon Miller who runs an exclusive club catering to the domineering/submissive set—I was ready to follow him anywhere! And, apparently, so has Alexandria Shaw who fell in love with a man who runs in dangerous concentric circles!

‘Bound’ (Book 2) resumes from where the reader is left standing agog alongside Alexandria in her living room, trying to make sense out of what had happened before our very eyes. You can’t!

This time, the author’s strategic word play sets up a cat-and-mouse action-thriller through a series of cunning maneuvers throughout the novel. Told from Alexandria (Lexi’s) point of view in first-person narrative, the reader is jolted back and forth from past to present so the puzzling pieces begin to fall into place—and, maddeningly so!

No longer reticent, Lexi is far more impulsive, headstrong, and takes matters into her own hands. Boy, does she ever! Landon Miller is even more of an enigma to me. I’m ready to hook up with Leroy. I admire and respect Dalton. Who? Acquire ‘Bound’ to find out! When you do, fasten your seatbelt in preparation for a perilous ride at every twist and turn.

The most recent installment of Gauthier’s Mystery of Landon Miller gives us, even more, mysteries to think over. While giving us more of the back story the author answers one question while creating even more. I must admit to being totally immersed into this saga of love, obsession, control, and submission. Lexi tries every way possible to find and rescue Landon and finally finds a helping hand in one of the most unlikely of places. They end up in Italy and we don’t even get a chance to enjoy the scenery. They will need to hide out and watch until the time is right to attempt a daring rescue even if the person being rescued doesn’t want to be.
I am very happy that Lexi is proving to be more independent and resourceful than in the previous book, she will need it! RM is definitely proving to be quite the tease, leading us here and there without showing us where we will end up. Great story!

A bountiful, intriguing sequel

The book intrigued me when the author was nominated for one of my Best Indie Titles of 2017 awards on my author blog, and the author was nice enough to share the story with me for a review. I read the first book "Control" right before I read this one, and you definitely need to read that one first, if to understand the story and the mystery of Landon. This story picks right up where "Control" left off and it is also filled with mystery, intrigue and sexual fantasies. The characters, especially Lexi, the MC, chemistry and connections, as well as humanity spills off the page. It's a mystery and it is enveloped by the BDSM life, this one focuses more on the mystery than the lifestyle that the other one did, but it works for both stories. In this story, I can say that I've seen growth in Lexi, and that's the sign of a good character, and good writing

I am loving this series and can hardly wait for book 3 to come out. This author is a keeper. Her writing is amazing and I really enjoyed the first two books. I still have not figured Landon out, he is a mystery and intriguing to me. There are so many twists and turns, I thought I had it all figured out, then bam, a new twist. I will read these books again. Read Control first, then Bound.

Alexandria is not taking Landon's leaving the way some people might think she should. She will do anything to find him. That includes stalking the FBI and anyone who gets in her way. Oh and she doesn't care what lengths she needs to go to find him. No one walks out on Alexandria. This is book 2 of a series. I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of this book from BookSends ARC.
