Max Montgomery was at the height of his career, playing the best hockey of his life, and lucky enough to have a starting spot on a team that was actually a contender for the Cup.

And one by one his friends were falling in love.

Love. Now that was a dirty four-letter word if he’d ever heard one.

Max had experienced love and all of its aftereffects and where had that gotten him?

Lonely, living in an apartment, and paying alimony to a woman who’d left him at the merest sign of a hiccup in their marriage.

His only bright spot was his son. Brayden had moved back in with him a few months ago, after his mother had taken off to God knew where. Max loved having him home, but with his son only seven and him on the road for forty-two games a year, they’d struggled. Still, they’d found a way to make it work.

But then Brayden threw Max a completely new curve ball.

He wanted Max to find a wife.

Max had been there, done that, got the crappy T-shirt as a souvenir. No way would he make himself vulnerable like that again, no matter how much his son wanted it.

A puppy was a perfectly viable alternative, right?

At least that was what he’d been thinking until he met Angelica Shallows, sister to the team’s Physical Therapist guru, Mandy, and a brilliant engineer in her own right. She was gorgeous, smart, but had shadows in her eyes.

Max knew all about shadows, knew they were meant as a sign for him to stay away.

What was that about the best intentions paving the road to hell? Max may have wanted to stay away, may have wanted to abide the warning signs in Angie’s eyes, but—

The real trouble began when he found that he couldn’t do either of those things.

Elise Faber is victorious with BENCHED (Gold Hockey #4). In this story, single dad/NHL star Max Montgomery gets his son, Brayden, a dog when he says he wants a new mom. He has no intention of going there again. However, he can’t seem to get Angelica Shallows, the half-sister of the Gold’s Physical Therapist, Mandy, out of his head. This story is suitable for adult readers. It takes place in San Francisco, California.

Elise Faber does an admiral job with her character development. She does a fantastic job of getting you in her characters' heads and understanding the reason for their reactions. Angie has been through a lot. Due to multiple circumstances, she is introverted and suffers from anxiety. She is understandably cautious about getting to know her half-sister Mandy. She was hurt by not having her father in her life. I like how Angie is introduced to Brayden. I like Max. He is observant and has good priorities. He gets Angie. He is better off without his ex-wife, Suzanne. I love that Max, Angie, and Brayden are Star Wars fans.

The plot was believable and skillfully executed. There were unexpected twists. The book was entertaining throughout. I recommend this book and series to people that enjoy sports romances. The epilogue made me interested in wanting to read the next book, BREAKAWAY. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

Benched by Elise Faber is book 4 in the Gold Hockey series, but can be read as a standalone. This is Max and Angie's story. What you get is a sexy hot single dad hockey player and the geeky shy yet beautiful nerdy woman who is super nerdy/geeky. She has a super smart job yet loves all things SW. She has a very low self esteem (which gets explained in the book). Max had his own brand of trouble with his ex wife. Max and Angie had a good connection between them yet at times the story seemed to struggle to get to that potential it seemed to be striving for. It was good but it could be better. I liked the characters and the storyline but the flow seemed to be off. The author is an amazing writer - I will definitely read her again- i think there were too many things going on and some things that seemed rushed.

Max may have found success when it comes to his hockey career however the same can’t be said of his personal life. His marriage did not end well, and he is not about to repeat the experience and he would do anything for his son except give him the Mom he has been asking for.

Angie is trying to forge a relationship with her half sister Mandy who works for the team. She has endured a painful past which still affects her life and her relationship with others.

Angie and Max are drawn to each other and their connection is made stronger with the help of a seven year old matchmaker. Their journey wasn’t without its ups and downs, but they help each other realize that their pasts do not have to dictate their future.

The story of Max and Angie. Angie is an introverted nerd type who bumps into hot hockey player Max when trying to avoid attending her estranged half sisters engagement party. They later meet at the vet and embark on a slow burn romance. I do love a slow burn.

There are trials along the way. Max’s ex-wife is a caricature of evil who gets in the way plus Angie has inner anxieties she must overcome caused by an assault in the past.

On the whole I enjoyed this story and will probably read the others. It did have quite a strong instalove feel to it. The minute they meet Max seems besotted with Angie. This slightly annoyed me.

Angie is so geeky with all the star wars stuff and saying quirky things. I felt it was a little forced sometimes. And her history of assault made all the hot bits a bit tense for me. I couldn’t get swept away in their passion!

I like Max and Angie's story.  I'm so glad to see how devoted to Brayden that Max is.  This started out really slow,  maybe the first half was slow,  then it picked up and ended pretty good.

Readers looking for a feel-good romance will get just that with this sweet and sexy romance set in the hockey world as a single father tries to fulfill his young son’s newest request...finding him a new mom. The journey to HEA isn’t simple though as fears over their pasts leads to a few doubts along the way that still ultimately led to a cheer-worthy conclusion.

Max Montgomery is at the top of his game after a rocky year full of life changes. With his ex relinquishing her parental rights to their son Brayden, Max is now a single dad who juggles his son’s needs while continuing to be successful on the ice too. So what if he’s sometimes late in getting Brayden to school on time. At least his boy knows he’s loved with interactions that made me smile. It all leaves little time for Max when it comes to matters of his own heart, which is fine by him as his ex left him bruised and doubtful of love and honesty due to her deceitfulness. Seeing the quiet and jittery Angie does tempt him though and what starts out as subtle flirtations soon becomes so much more. Just when HEA is within their reach his fear leads to harsh words and a hard-fought Grand Gesture that Angie richly deserved. Max is a delicious hero with an endearing connection to his son courtesy of quiet movie nights and moments of mutual rambunctiousness. He’s a loving father who would do just about anything for his son, but putting his heart on the line again isn’t something he’s rushing out to do. Thankfully fate, and a newly-adopted dog, brings him and Angie together in a relationship that takes both of them outside their comfort zones. Angie’s got her own baggage which Max is very conscious of and in his dealings with her he’s very gentle. There’s definite maturity to him but playfulness as well when it comes to sci-fi talk and he’s an entertaining dichotomy that I was drawn to from the very start. Even with his anger late in the story directed at Angie, he still managed to win me back due to a truly heartwarming act of forgiveness that pulled at my geeky heartstrings and that made for a perfect ending.

Angela Shallows is the illegitimate daughter of hockey royalty, kept secret from everyone including the half-sister now hoping to make a connection with her. Life’s not been easy for her through the years though with the pain of loneliness, and unending fear from being sexually assaulted, leaving her jittery and full of uncertainties. She feels awkward in social situations and her low self-esteem had her closing herself off from the world and it broke my heart to see her struggle early on. With a new group of friends pushing her though, daring her to be bolder, readers were soon cheering her on as a sexy hockey star made his attraction towards her known. Fun and flirty texts soon evolved into tongue-tingling kisses that brought out a gentle side in Max and a coquettish side to Angie. Angie’s an appealing heroine for the most part, very comfortable around Brayden and determined in her interactions with others. I applauded her going outside her comfort zone and was thrilled to see her becoming more empowered by being around Max. His harsh words late in the story would’ve broken the old Angie, but this one picked herself up and brushed herself off before getting ready to reclaim her place in Max’s life. I also want to mention how simple Angie’s recovery was from her assault (touch from others previously had her pulling away) as it felt a bit too easy. Despite that I still appreciate that the author dealt with the long-term aspects of what happened to her in a respectful way that made Max look even more the hero.

Overall there was a sense of familiarity to this story, a sense of predictability that frustrated me at times, while keeping me entertained through its crackling dialogue and sensual interludes. The main couple clearly had issues of their own while being together made them stronger in a relationship that was virtually angst-free. It wasn’t until the very end that the author threw in a very unnecessary roadblock to HEA, a roadblock that was overly-melodramatic but one that quickly solved one problem while creating another that was quickly cleaned up. Surrounding this appealing main couple was an equally likable cast of secondary characters. From Max’s teammates (who felt more like family) to a psycho-ex looking to turn his HEA upside down, readers were kept glued to the pages seeing teammates act more like brothers in laugh out loud scenes while hissing at Suzanne’s duplicitous behavior. After the heartwarming conclusion found here, readers will be left counting down the days until the next installment in the Gold Hockey series as the sparks are just beginning to fly between rookie hockey star Blue and Max’s strong-willed nanny Anna.

3.25 stars. This was a pretty good book, but I didn't totally love it. Benched is book four in the Gold Hockey series, but it can be read as a standalone. It was the first book I have read by Ms. Faber. This book is Max and Angie's book. Max is a pro hockey player and a single dad to a son, Brayden. He meets Angie, who is the estranged sister of his team's physical therapist. They meet by accident and then again by accident, and both feel a connection, which leads to spending time together and dating.

I liked Max and Angie. Max is a devoted dad and has been focused on his son since his wife left them a few years prior. He hasn't dated or anything, but when his son asks for a new mom and then he meets Angie, he feels like it is fate. Angie is quirky and sweet with some anxiety, a history of being sexually assaulted/attacked, and guilt over her estrangement with her sister. I felt like Max and Angie were a good match and brought out the best in each other. Max helped Angie gain some confidence and come out of her shell some. I liked Max's son, Brayden too.

I did think that the book was a little slow starting. By 35%, barely anything had happened. We saw a lot of the characters separately with friends but just minutes together by that point. Once it got going, I liked the middle of the book a good bit. Max and Angie had a slow burn romance that I enjoyed seeing develop. I thought the couple was cute together. But I felt like the book went downhill at the very end. I did not love the big conflict near the end. I can't explain what happened without spoiling it, but there is an incident where Brayden is put in danger when he is with Angie. Max was really awful to Angie and let her go through the aftermath of that alone with no intention of fixing things until his son asked him too. ( ) Of course, Angie forgave him immediately and I felt like she was a total doormat. This conflict was right at the end so there was no further resolution and the epilogue is about the next couple in the series. I don't like a doormat heroine and I didn't feel like Max understood how awful he was to her or that he truly felt sorry. I felt really bad for Angie. This conflict and the way it was handled really put a damper on the way I felt about this book.

Overall, I enjoyed this book in general, but it had some moments I did not enjoy. Still, the story was fun and interesting. I liked that Max was a devoted dad and Angie was able to come into her own. I do think the book is worth reading, even if it was not my favorite.

I loved every page of this book. Max was struggling. He loved his son and wanted to spend time with him, but he was a busy hockey player. He had a nanny who helped him out and was great. His son only wanted one thing: a new mom. There was no way he was going to do that, so he got him a dog instead. While at the vet, when the dog gets sick, he runs into Angela for the second time. She is skittish and opens up to him about being attacked. He can't get her out of his mind and they start communicating via text messaging.
Angela was attacked years ago, and is trying to become a stronger person, even though she still struggles. She finally accepted going out with co-workers. She surprises herself by opening up to Max, but she also feels safe with him. While talking is nice, she also wants more, but she is afraid. She also has another connection, she is the sister to a woman who works with the team, but she won't talk to her at all.
Every moment between Max and Angela is an honest moment. Meaning they both open up to each other and agree to take it slow. When his ex comes back into the picture, he worries that Angela will think he wants her back, but she surprises him and accepts it for what it is, a ploy. Unfortunately, just when things seem wonderful, a tragic thing happens and Max doesn't handle it well. There might not be any way to come back from what happens, but the real question is whether either one is willing to fight for them to be together.
A wonderful book about second chances, trust, and love. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest, voluntary review.

I haven't read the previous Gold Hockey books but I want to say at least one of them is in my TBR ...
Anyway - I was kinda 😒 at the beginning but I had already DNF'd so many books and I know I've enjoyed previous Elise Faber book(s) [although I've also DNF'd another/stalled...]

And I'm glad I pressed on!
[my tweets https://twitter.com/Limecello/status/...]

So I maybe missed a little not having read the previous books - in either series, although I like how they intertwine. But I didn't feel LOST or anything - and it was fun with the cameos. (Jordan. Ha.)

Angelica/Angie/Angel and Max are just ... so cute. I love their nerdery.
I really didn't like all the stereotypes with the "oh I'm an engineer so I have no social skills"
And I GET how easily Angel forgives Max at the end ... and I'm glad he's also going for the big gesture - and too often I'm meh on kids because they're just written badly, but Brayden was great. And a great kid.

[I was a little "hm" that E V E R Y adult in the book "just knew" to call him "bud"/that's apparently how all adults in that world address kids? >.>]
Also the co-worker/underling friend was a big abrupt for Angie but it was cute, and I liked the friend group. (Also hey convenient lead in for more series right? :P)

Anyway I can totally see re-reading this book, and now I even more want to read the other books I haven't yet.

CW not in this book but in the past Angie was sexually assaulted, and she's had a rough time getting over it/it's a big part also of what makes her so ... ~awkward. Plus her weird AF upbringing which ... isn't so much addressed.

Hockey star Max Montgomery found love once, but instead of it leading him to a happily ever after, it lead him to a broken heart, and a divorce. Now the mere mention of love leaves a dirty taste in his mouth, and causes him to want to run the other direction. The only thing that his last round with love gave him was a bright and energetic little boy Brayden. Now that boy is his moon and stars. But that boy needs a mom, a woman that can bring joy and normality to their lives. Someone to complete their family.

But that would require Max to let someone in again... and that is something he just can't bring himself to do. That is until a quirky, slightly nerdy, beauty named Angelica stumbles into his life and turns it upside down!

Between the pages of Benched readers will meet a trio of lovable characters that will take them on an unforgettable journey. A journey that is filled with happiness, healing, heartbreak, romance, and joy. The instant these characters came into my view I found myself mesmerized by them, and the touching story they had to tell. Page after page I found new reasons to love them, root them on, and hold out hope they'd get the happy, joyful ending they deserved... and they found that and so much more. I really enjoyed this one, it was a seamlessly blended romance story filled with emotional highs and lows that kept me engaged and smothered in feels... it was literary perfection!

I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.

This was a sweet story about opposites attracting and getting over a few HUGE hangups to be the person that you want to be. I think the author did a great job writing the characters, the plot, the climax, and the steam!

Max lives for 2 things, his son above everything else and hockey. After his ex wife left him and his son, he makes sure that Brayden is everything in his life and does not need love or relationships or anything like that, his only goal is making his son happy. At least until his son says the only thing he wants is a mom....

Angelica is a complete introvert. She is an engineer and was raised as a social pariah, so let's just say she is not good at all with people. After an incident that took please before too, let's just say the poor girl has been through a lot. I can also say that I totally dug her nerdiness, it was the perfect amount and adorable.

These two meet in a chance situation and start a slow burn romance getting to know each other and it is pretty freaking slow, but you will get why once you check it out. I can say that once it gets hot and heavy, it is like *Snap* and they are together. I will says I wanted to slap Max a couple of times, but that is all that you are getting out of me for how things go down, check out this book it is almost an innocent kind of love story!!

PS: I received this book as an ARC but am voluntarily and honestly reviewing it

Max Montgomery is at the height of his career as a NHL star and a single dad to son Brayden. His friends/teammates are finding love, but love is not really for Max. The last time he thought he was in a relationship forever it ended when he and his son were abandoned by his ex-wife/baby momma. Max gets Brayden a dog when he voices that he’d really like a new mom and since the Nanny, Anna was on board with it he figured it would be a good distraction.

Angelica “Angie” Shallows is a brilliant engineer and the half-sister to Mandy, from the last book. Mandy is the Physical Therapist for the NHL team that Max is on. Max runs into Angie when she comes to finally meet her half-sister in person, but she runs away before that can happen. After their brief run in Max can’t seem to get the gorgeous Angie out of his head.

Angie didn’t have the best upbringing and eventually she and Mandy could share the fact that their father was a horrible manipulative man who didn’t deserve either one of them. All that really effected Angie’s self-esteem and self-worth and she had real trust issues but so did Max, so this made their journey interesting. There were highs and lows that were extremely believable, and I will say Angie was a really great character. There were several situations that I really liked how she handled them with grace and maturity, when she could have thrown a fit or allowed a serious misunderstanding to take place.

This isn't the first book by this author that I've read. However I think it has become my favorite. Not only do we get a hot single dad hockey player. But we also get a shy, thinks she's awkward, nerdy engineer who loves everything Star Wars. I just adored Angie! She may have felt out of her element most of the time, but that's okay. When she finally stepped out of her safe box she was willing and ready to fight for the people she loved; fight for the family she loved. She became a hero in my eyes. She fought adversity and won. I also loved Max. He was pushed past his limits and overcame them. For the longest time he believed he needed to stay single and put Brayden first. That was until he met Angie and really got to know her. He fell hard and deep. Yeah, he slipped up but he's only human and Angie recognized that to forgive him. I love that these two found each other. Then there's Brayden. Who wouldn't love this kid!! Seriously! I knew I didn't want to give up on this author and I'm glad I didn't. Great book, great family! *I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.*

5 adorable stars!! OMG this book is just so cute and sweet! It's everything I need in a hocky romance!!

Max has sworn off commitment the minute he was divorced. The slight mention of commitment and he's off running fast and far away. The only thing in his life that he needs is his son Brayden! That boy is everything to him, but Brayden wants to see his daddy happy and he wants him to be married. In come Angelica... and that's when the whole book just comes to life!! I can't even tell you how beautiful and adorablel this book is! I love a good hockey romance and this book hits all the spots I needed hit!

Benched by Elise Faber
“Second shot at love, 3 stars”

Max thought he knew what love was once. Then that all changed with a blink of an eye after his wife had their son. Now he’s rocking the single dad game and is perfectly content with both his personal and professional life. Until his son drops a bomb on him, he wants a mom. Right then Max meets Angelica and there is just something about her that brings out his protective nature. Is she the one?
Angelica isn’t one for people, she’s more the keep to yourself type. She’s a product of her environment. When Angelica meets Max there is something about him that makes her act like someone else. Will he be the change she needs?
I liked the idea behind Max and Angelica. I love alpha hero’s who are all about changing their heroines for the better, which he did. Angelica had the potential she just needed to know someone would be there for her if she jumped. With that said Benched really didn’t do it for me. It wasn’t amazing but it wasn’t bad. I just couldn’t get into the story like I wish I did. I hope if you take a chance on Benched you have better luck than I did.

This is my first book by Elise Faber and I am angry with myself that I have missed the three previous books in the Gold Hockey series. I love to read sports romance novels, but especially if that sport happens to be hockey.
Angie and Max's romance seemed to take a little while to get off the ground, but I think it was very important to the story that it happened that way. I don't want to allude to anything else as I fear I may give away too much of the storyline. All I will say is that when they do start seeing each other it was explosive and very much worth the wait.
I also liked how Elise wrote Max's son Brayden. I think it takes a very talented author that can write a child character so realistically, and Elise has definitely managed that in this story.
Even thought this is the fourth book, it does completely read as a standalone, but I know I will definitely read the other stories soon.

Hockey romances have become some of my favorite sports romances to read!

Elise Faber is one of those authors that I can pick up and read any time, without even knowing what the story is about. Benched is book four in the Gold Hockey series and is so much more than what we're used to seeing from Elise. Single-dad and hockey player Max Montgomery is struggling to find his place in the world while raising his young son alone. There's no denying the spark that happens when he meets Angelica, though. The best part is they're quite opposite, yet they're super sweet and perfect for one another. These two warmed my heart and I really enjoyed them together.

Benched is a great addition to the series and gets you ready for the upcoming installment. Faber knows how to bring two unlikely people together, all while leaving a smile on your face. A satisfying story with a well-planned plot--four and a half stars!!

Another single dad story (you may have guessed I have a weakness for these!). I thought this book was very sweet. It combined a lot of elements that I enjoy - sports romance, single dad romance, sweet kids and a slightly damaged heroine. This was a bit of a slow burner, which is also something I usually enjoy but one place where I deducted some points for was that the beginning of this story was just a bit slow - not just a slow burn... it kind of didn't go anywhere for the first 3rd of the story. Then once it picked up I really did enjoy it a lot. Great characters and an enjoyable plot. I hadn't read the other books in the series but didn't feel I really had missed too much. Then there was a bit of a drama right near the end of the story which felt a bit out of place or maybe just forced. Kind of spoiled the end for me a bit. So overall enjoyable but a couple of hiccups.

This is my first Elise Faber book which when I realize this is the fourth in her hockey series, well I definitely want to read the others. I want all the details on the other characters mentioned. Yes I am nosy.

Max and Angie break my heart and continue to do so as I get more information on their backstory. I do love Max the amazing dad but his ex-wife is a real piece of work and he got the short end of the stick in that relationship.

Angie has been made to feel worthless her entire life. Good thing her parents are dead otherwise I would be wishing for their demise. I love who she is. She is a highly intelligent, somewhat awkward girl that is frequently hilarious. The toxic people got very little airtime which I am happy about. Her getting to know her sister was beautiful.

This story really lets us see who and what Max and Angie are. They are so deliciously steamy together with some exceptionally touching moments. Sweet, awesome read with some angst added near the end. Eek. Ok I am not spilling anymore of the beans on this story. No spoilers here. I will just say I really like this one especially since sports romance is a fav of mine. Happy Reading!

This book really had it all for me. It's a sports romance and a single dad romance which had me sold right off the bat. Then throw in two nerdy characters even better. I loved Angie. I so could relate to her a lot and she's so endearing. Angie has a heart of gold. I really like her friends she makes. I could easily fit in with them with my love Harry Potter. Max and his little boy are so adorable together. His son sure adds so much to this book. This book definitely packs in the feels. With everything that Angie has gone through in life I was rooting for her to get her HEA that she so deserves. This book also has a little suspense to it which adds another layer to the book. The characters pull you right in the book and I got so invested in them. I have to give it to Max he knows how to woo someone. I highly recommend this book because you will have a hard time putting it down.

A great single-dad read when all hope is lost in love Max is more than happy to have his son Braydon as his one and only fed up of being hurt by women especially Braydon's mom the father/son duo have a great bond together and even though Max is pulled awaysometimes by his Hockey career it helps he has a lovely Nanny and friend Anna to help him out with childcare!

But when he spots Angie making an escape from her estranged Sisters engagement in tears he feels an instant connection but Angie's past has been anything but easy! And decides she's just going to be a cat lady with no relationships but Max and Braydon changeeverything for her.

Its definitely an insta-love read and Max knows it pretty quickly! I loved this story it gives you a happy feeling after reading it! I'll definitely be reading more books from Elise Faber.

Benched is the fourth title in the Gold Hockey series, but it was my first time reading Elise Faber’s work and I believe it can easily be read as a standalone.

Max and Angelica’s story is sweet, sexy and angsty.

Max has been burned by love, but it gave him his adorable and precocious young son Brayden. Max is an alpha, NHL hockey player who has a heart of gold and is a doting single father.

Angelica is quirky, unique, introverted and a bit of a nerd. Her childhood has not only left her with a boat load of insecurities, but it also left her socially awkward.

Whilst I enjoyed this title I wanted it to be longer and I wanted to see more development in their relationship. Overall Benched is an enjoyable and entertaining single parent sports romance.

Benched is an amazing hockey romance. If you haven't had a chance to read any of the Gold Hockey series then you need to really do so because you dont know what you are missing out on. I love Max and his nerdy ways. He is an amazing single dad as well as hockey player. I love his connection with his son Brayden. That right there will melt your heart and make you swoon. Like all his teammates Max meets his match when he least expected it in Angelica. Angelica has social issues but yet is so sweet and has a bit of a nerdy side. She will grab hold of your heart some once you find out more about her. I love the chemistry between Max and Angelica. They are sweet together. Hang onto the little bit of drama in this one. I couldn't put this one down. I can't wait for more to come in this series.

In Benched we are introduced to professional hockey player Max and his son Brayden as well as Angelina “Angie”. Angie has been through some trauma in her life and doesn’t know how to people real well. When she meets Max and Brayden they begin to bring her out of herself and back to the person she used to be. Watching these two become a couple was amazing!
The characters in this book made me wish they were real! This book was delicious, and hot, and steamy, and left me a little anxious in some places. Max and Angie were definitely a couple that I would want to be friends with in real life. This book is a standalone within a series, and I will be going back to read the others, but it is not necessary to follow this one. Definitely recommend for anyone who loves a sports romance.

This story was pretty good.

A man who is crazy afraid of love after being burned and a woman with mega social anxiety issues actually make a good pairing. Complete with a sassy nanny and little boy who knows what to ask his dad for, Benched is an entertaining read.

The heroine and hero were mature - for the most part - and I liked that there were no petty games being played. I haven't read any other story in the series, but the Gold Hockey players seem like a really cool bunch. I liked the preview we got of the next book in the series, and would definitely like to read it.

I voluntarily read & reviewed an ARC of this book.

nerds united

I was a little worried about the conflict that was going to happen because they always get together and just before the happy ending there is some terrible thing that happens. This one wasn’t as bad though. I am glad that his ex was the one causing the major problems this time instead of him saying something super awful. I mean, yeah not checking on her and freaking out about his kid was not great but he could have been much worse so I was ok with it. And man, who knew there was so much Star Wars stuff?? Hello?? Star Wars shoes and dresses? I need to search online to find me some.

Max is just trying to do his best raising his little boy and playing hockey. When he runs into Angie he is taken aback, she is the most beautiful woman he has seen and he wants to get to know her but when she runs out on him he can't help but figure it is a lost cause.. Angie shouldn't be at the arena and running into Max made it worse.. Her friends are trying to get her to come out of her shell and she wants to especially with Max. Will they both be able to move on from their past and make a go of it?

This is my first book by Elise Faber, but it will not be the last. It is not the first book in the series and it is fine if you did not read the first books. I did not feel as if I missed anything. Although... I do want to go read about everyone else now. Max was just adorable, especially with his son. What a great single dad!!! That always warms my heart. I loved that while Angie fell in love with Max she also fell in love with her son. It was a great sports romance with single dad and a dash of hot chemistry all rolled into one.

4 STAR Review by Jodi for Ruby Red Romance Review

I enjoyed this story. I loved that Max had his priorities straight, Brayden. I loved that Brayden wasn't afraid to go after what he thought was good for his dad. I loved Angie and all her painful shyness. I loved seeing her overcome some of that to be what Max and Brayden needed.

This is the first book I've read in this series, but I look forward to reading more. I enjoyed the storyline and the characters were likable. I look forward to more to come.
