When Amelrik proposes, Virginia couldn’t be happier, even though she knows the king of Hawthorne clan will never allow his only son to marry a St. George. But the situation turns out to be even worse when Cedric, the appointed heir, refuses to come home and marry for a political alliance. If Cedric doesn’t show, the king’s going to make Amelrik take his place, meaning Virginia will lose him forever.
Determined not to have their lives decided for them, Virginia and Amelrik set out to find Cedric and convince him to come home. But when a group of paladins takes over the city Cedric’s been living in, on the grounds that there have been recent dragon attacks, they put the town on lockdown. No one’s getting in or out, dragon or human. Sooner or later, any dragons stuck inside the town will have to transform and reveal themselves, and Virginia, Amelrik, and Cedric find themselves trapped.
Things only get worse when Virginia’s dragon-hunter sister, Celeste, shows up to aid the paladins. And as the dragon attacks increase, so does the town’s paranoia. Time is running out, and it isn’t long before Virginia and Amelrik are fighting just for survival. If they can’t figure out what’s really going on, and soon, it won’t just be their love that’s in danger—it’ll be their lives.
Chelsea M. Campbell grew up in the Pacific Northwest, where it rains a lot. And then rains some more. She finished her first novel when she was twelve, sent it out, and promptly got rejected. Since then she's written many more novels, earned a degree in Latin and Ancient Greek, become an obsessive knitter and fiber artist, and started a collection of glass grapes. Besides writing, studying ancient languages, and collecting useless objects, Chelsea is a pop-culture fangirl at heart and can often be found rewatching episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Parks and Recreation, or dying a lot in Dark Souls.
I really enjoyed the 2nd book in this series. I re-read the first book before starting this one, as it had been a while, and I was instantly reminded of the hilarious inner dialogue and great chemistry between the characters. Thankfully, this continued with the second book. I can’t wait for the next one - and now, we wait.....
I loved coming back to the characters and watching them continue to grow! I've been hooked on this series and have read the first book three times before Honorbounds release! Campbell has become one of my favorite authors and I'm looking forward to seeing a third installment of this series!!!
At first it started out different from the first and I was afraid it had changed and was starting to be obsessed with their physical relationship so I put the book down for awhile. But I picked it back up and found it moved past that pretty quickly and got into an interesting and engrossing story. Hope the series continues.
