The Overcomer Bible Study Book includes content for five Bible study lessons, personal study guides between group sessions, applicable Scripture, "How to Use This Study," and tips for leading a group. The small group sessions and personal study opportunities in this Bible study guides readers through examining how we determine and find our true identity in Christ with clips from the Kendrick brothers' Overcomer movie.
Many people feel they are less than who God says they are. We get our identity from our careers, our political positions, our roles in the family, and a number of other lesser things.
However, what is most true about us is that we are made by a God who loves us, and the gospel can bring us into a relationship with Him. When we understand who God is, we more fully understand who we are.
The Kendrick brothers co-write screenplays and books as well as produce, act in and direct movies that are dedicated to serving Jesus Christ and making Him known around the world. Catch the Overcomer movie in theaters August 23.

This is the companion Bible study book that goes with Overcomer, the movie. I chose it because it deals with identity in Christ. Moses, Gideon, Jonah, Peter, and Paul all struggled with the new identities God had for them. Moses and Gideon didn't feel they were strong enough to do the tasks God had for them, the new role God had for them. Jonah didn't want to do the job God had for him. Peter was passionate but had to overcome failure in order to lead the church and change from fisherman to apostle. Paul initially felt he was strong and worthy, but he had to lose his old identity to work for Christ instead of against him. He found Christ's strength in his weakness.
This book was different than I thought it would be. It didn't deal much with the riches we have in Christ or self-image. Instead it challenges readers to become the person God wants them to be. It had some good, challenging insights about these Bible characters who all faced major role changes in their lives.
While the basic Bible study was good and helpful, it was not available on Kindle. I ordered the ebook from LifeWay and received a very cumbersome package with it. It included a library of Bible versions and books that I didn't need. Every day I had to go to the website and sign in. I had to contact them directly because this book was absent from my library until I signed in, and the sign in was hard to find. It includes video clips, but they never loaded for me. Perhaps this format works well on a phone, but I had to read it on my computer and I absolutely hated the extra stuff I had to do every day before I could even get started on the Bible study. Hopefully they will make this into a REAL ebook soon for old school readers like me.
