He is two thousand miles from home; the grid and all modern transportation have failed. The country is degenerating into violence and dog eats dog scenarios. People are killing their neighbors for a scrap of moldy bread or a sip of water. Zack has to get back to Kentucky to find his daughter so he can take her to the safety of his farm. Librarian Note: There is more than one author in the Goodreads database with this name.

A.J. Newman is the author of over 22 novels that have been published on Amazon. He was born and raised in a small town in the western part of Kentucky. His Dad taught him how to handle guns very early in life, and he and his best friend Mike spent summers shooting .22 rifles and fishing.
He read every book he could get his hands on and fell in love with science fiction. He graduated from USI with a degree in Chemistry and made a career working in manufacturing and logistics, but always fancied himself as an author.
He served six years in the Army National Guard in an armored unit and spent six years performing every function on M48 and M60 army tanks. This gave him a great respect for our veterans who lay their lives on the line to protect our country and freedoms.
He currently resides in Kentucky with his wife Patsy and their three tiny mop dogs, Sammy Cotton and Callie.

Easy Reading, Good Action

This post apocalyptic series had an interesting twist and in several ways was quite different from many other in this genre. There were flashes of humor here and there and there was enough plot and action to keep my attention. For a simply written style, the characters were surprisingly well developed. The conclusion was disappointingly abrupt and begged for a sequel.

Although billed as a trilogy, this collection of post-apocalyptic fiction is actually a quadrilogy, consisting of the books New Beginnings, Old Enemies, Frozen Apocalypse, and The Final Ending (to tie up loose ends).

At the end of Frozen Apocalypse, the author thanks two people for proofreading and editing his work. This surprised me because, judging by misspelled / misused words, incorrect grammar, and missing / misplaced punctuation marks, I was certain that no competent editor and/or proofreader had come within a light-year of any manuscript by this author.

Lest I should be misunderstood: I did not hate this. Parts of it were absorbing, though violent. However, the irregularities of grammar, spelling, and punctuation did make some sentences difficult to read.

Fairly tame adventure

An EMP story told from the perspective of the main heroes point of view. Several of America's enemies gang up and wipe out the electrical grid creating chaos. Zack is a prepper owho has the foresight and skill to survive in the new world following nuclear and EMP disasters. He and his best friend work together to stay ahead of gangs and those who take advantage of the survivors in a world turned up side down.
The only short coming is that the fate of The United States if left in limbo and unresolved.

Plan for life not just living!

Although reading some of this story was a bit dry, there was also plenty of action and as an apocalyptic story, absolutely full of ideas to keep living. I.loved the stories and the characters. Picturing events and characters was easy. Thank you for this great portfolio of stories!

Great Story and I love the author. I have read many of his books and was never dissatisfied. It was a page turner from beginning to end. I want to find out if they ever make it to a safe place and what else they are going to encounter.

Series

This three book series was a very good set. The prepped problems and the things needed for their survival keep you hating to put the book down. Ending leaves you with some questions.

Great read

Really enjoyed these books. I like the dry humour and although its a dark story of survival the humour makes it a light hearted read. The character's are well round and the story good .I did actually belly laugh in quite a few places .

Why I gave this book only 3 stars.

I really enjoyed reading this trilogy until I got to the end. It left too many things left hanging. If this was a tv show, the ending would be considered a cliffhanger. I personally don't like cliffhangers.

Good read

I enjoyed the story and hated to see it end. The author needs a proof reader and the incorrect use of contractions makes reading difficult at time. I.e. "He'll." As a sentence. Should be He will.

This book has very poor punctuation that makes it quite annoying to read. The story started off well but deteriorated through book two. It then nosedived in book 3 with a disjointed story line and even worse punctuation. Book 3 was really quite poor.

Leader of group glad this is fiction what a wussie

The mistakes leader of the group made should have killed him in the first book . He missed out on the love of his life cause he follow first tail that would have him then the second. Just cause she could make beer?

Nonstop Action

This book is one of the better apocalyptic stories I have read. It was different to others in many ways, and the action was non-stop as was the snarky comments between the survivors. It wasn't all fun though and deserves the 5 stars.

Interesting book

Lots of action and believable characters. The book needs better editing. Someone went crazy using commas. I need twenty words so this sentence takes care of that.

This is a great read!

When I started reading this trilogy, I wasn't sure if I wanted to invest the time involved in reading some 700 pages. It was well worth it. If you start, stick with it, and you'll be happy you did.

Hard to read. Jumps around too much. As another reviewer pointed out, the incorrect use of contractions about drove me to put it down. He’ll instead of he will or I’ll instead of I will etc. Confusion in names was rough to navigate through as well. Story was jumbled I thought. Sorry.

Good story, poor editing

The story was good, but predictable. My main complaint is the awful editing. A brake pedal, not peddle. So many grammar and words usage errors.

Horrible ending

I’m not sure what made the author think that the end of the series would be welcome with such an abrupt cliff hanger such as it did. Very disappointing
