The start of a bold new adventure! Mother Forest is beset by a terrible plague that sickens the very jungle, but this deadly evil is not the only danger Sheena must face. A ruthless huntress prowls the forest, seeking a girl with golden hair, and the mark of the jaguar...
This collection of issues #6-10 is just as bad as the first. The story is adequate but the artwork is full of errors and an editor was obviously lacking or off feeding their guide dog. There was at least one frame where the text bubble obviously pointed to the wrong character. Sheena's magical knife if always described as an ancient weapon created by the first ones, but in the art is shown in detail to be a contemporary clip point bowie.
I will be avoiding anything by these creators in the future.
Very disappointing. The story is dull, vague and irrational. The dialogue is flat and wordy. A good rule of thumb for a graphic novel is to show, not tell. More trust in Maria Laura Sanapo’s ability to tell the story would have rectified this, and the artwork is the best thing about this volume. There are also multiple lettering errors; most irritatingly, the main villain in the story once again is alternately known as either Caldwell or Cadwell. Finally, several minor printing errors and, unforgivably, a speech bubble assigned to the wrong character. Apart from Sanapo’s artwork, the best thing about this book is that it was the perfect length for today’s train journey.
Art seemed rushed. Faces were not consistent and many times were clay versions of what they should have been. No side/corner narration boxes anywhere in the story, everything was word-balloon driven. Coloring and lettering were decent. Story had a lot of filler in order to fill in the pages. I appreciate the Sheena character and much of the material released on Dynomite has been pretty good but this effort did not match up with prior works.
This second volume of "Sheena: Queen of the Jungle" adds additional back story for the titular character and improves on the story telling of the first volume but still fails to deliver a satisfying or convincing ending.
