This book gives biblical guidance on playing, watching, and discussing sports in a God-glorifying manner, helping believers grow in both their love for God and their passion for holiness.
Scripture calls Christians to do everything for the glory of God. That means every thought, every word, and every deed are to be done in a way that brings pleasure and honor to him. Believe it or not, this includes playing, watching, and talking sports! But most of us fail to recognize how sports fit into the big picture of a God-glorifying life, unable to imagine that the God who created the universe might actually care about Little League games and Monday Night Football.
So how do we play, watch, and talk sports for God's glory? Game Day for the Glory of God seeks to answer that question from a biblical perspective. Sports fan Stephen Altrogge aims to help readers enjoy sports as a gift from God and to see sports as a means of growing in godliness.
My basketball coach used to read portions if this to us while we stretched before every practice. Eventually, I picked it up to read for myself. This is a great book that helped make tremendous strides as a very young Christian athlete.
This is a great book for anyone looking for help in how to leverage their love of sports with their desire to grow in Christ. I wish this had been around when I was younger. While it is not an earth shaking read, it is encouraging and filled with practical wisdom. The father-son advise in this book is very practical and helpful.
I'm not a huge sports freak, but I thought it'd be worthwhile to read this, and it was. There are many principles explained here for playing (and watching) sports of many kinds in ways that honour the Lord. Recommended for Christian athletes, sports enthusiasts and especially for Christian parents whose kids play sports.
this book is CJ's "Humility" applied to sports. My favorite sections were about parenting your children through playing sports and using it to teach them humility and character. I also loved how the book had a balanced perspective on the dangers of pride in sports and how sports can be a gift.
I think this would be a great group read, especially for a team or even a group of fantasy players. It celebrates athletics in a positive way and is encouraging to everyone involved in sports in any way. Definitely worth the time.
I am not a big sports fan, but I found this book incredibly helpful in seeing the possibility of glorifying God through the playing and watching of sports.
