Snakes don't scare me. I just don’t like them very much. Or spiders.
One investigation leads to another. A dead body turns up in an alley. Can’t have that on my watch.
This case seemed like the usual mess: facing down ogres, deciphering conversations with fauns, tangling with bigger, badder uglies. But it takes a turn for the dark and dangerous. If I don’t do something, it’s going straight off the rails.
Is someone trying to bring a monster into our world? Or is there more going on here than I’m seeing?
As long as the serpents stay away, I’ve got this. But I'm never that lucky. We protect you from things you didn’t even know existed.
I’m Gunner Hext. I’m an Edgewalker.
Fans of wizard detectives, magic, fantasy creatures, and mystery will love this series. Gunner battles monsters, sorceresses, and bureaucracy make sure the job gets done.
FANGS is approx. 15,000 words. The series is episodic/serial, with each book a separate adventure in an overarching storyline broken up into seasons, much like television shows.
R.J. Batla is a fantasy author and fan of the genre. He’s working on series in both epic and urban fantasy, and likes to write fast paced books that take the reader on an adventure that they can see in their mind. His books reflect influences from novels, comic books, manga, and other cartoons/media, and he joys in blending in these elements in his books.
Author, Christian, Husband, and Father, R.J. Batla enjoys everything outdoors and takes as much time as he can with his family. When he’s not writing, you’ll find him outside (thinking about writing), working out (and thinking about writing) or various other places (all while thinking about writing).

Another fun adventure with Edgewalker, Gunner Hext. I love these little episodic adventures with the Unseen World. The action and pacing keeps you turning the pages and the humor is well done. I'm looking forward to the next one!
Gunner's adventures continue in this deliciously short episode like story. He has new enemies to face and a new mystery to solve and it will take most, no all, of his cunning.
Not only is this a fun episode that can standalone as it's own story, but it also continues the main storyline set out in episode one.
I highly reccomend this for fans for urban fantasy, detective stories, The Dresdin Files, and Iron Druid Chronicles
Action packed, thrilling, magical powers – all mixed together makes a great story. Edgewalker Gunnar Hext is an enforcer, who keeps humans safe from the world of magic. Edgewalker Hext fights against monsters and vampires. He stumbles into the middle of an evil plot. He has now been involved twice with a sorceress. Does this mean something or is it just coincidence? A quick action thriller!
What a reading ride to go on! I was happily surprised that the setting and landmarks were very known to me which helped in making the writing so much MORE! It was absolutely suspenseful, thrilling and funny as heck too! If you want a good book that will whisk you away and before you know it, you’re done, well, then, you MUST read Fangs! You won’t regret it.
