This book on the months of the year in Gullah culture is beautifully written by Katharine Boling and illustrated by Daniel Minter. It includes a glossary of Gullah vocabulary in the back, along with a recipe for Hopping John. It promotes pride in African American culture.

Cleverly written book for children, but certainly enjoyable for adults. Includes a poem for each month, along with beautiful illustrations and a glossary to help translate gullah words.
