I love this artbook! Ishida's art is so beautiful. Everything is hauntingly gorgeous. At times intricate and at other times perfect in the paintings' simplicity, the book has an overall balance. With the variety of full color pages of stunning portraits to humorously drawn chibi characters it really showcases the personality and skill of the artist. Each Tokyo Ghoul character has beautiful drawings that show the depths of their characters. My favorite sketches though are of Furuta. Many of the artwork featuring him is so mesmerizing and as I said before, haunting. The physical quality of the book is great. Nice thick paper that shows the colors well and the bare hardback cover is very beautiful. It is written entirely in Japanese but understanding the languages isn't necessary to appreciate the art. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Ishida's art and wants to expand their artbook collection. A song for this that reminds me of Kaneki's story arc in this series is King After King by Avatar. "Here it comes Death undone King after king"
If you truly love Tokyo Ghoul as much as I do, I highly suggest this book.. The illustrations are breathtaking and worth the $ to be able to revisit at any given time.

Seeing the end credits for Root A was so surreal because I realized it's been over two years since I first watched it. That's insane. I wasn't even the same person back then.
I also think Ishida being so insecure about all of his art has become something that, as I've done more art classes and explored my own abilities, I understand more. Artists are really insufferable, honestly. It's kind of amazing how they can make something that looks like the next masterpiece, yet believe that it's the worst thing they've drawn yet. I think Ishida is still my favorite artist. There's something about everything he draws, even his old art, where it just feels like there's so much energy.
Okay but Ishida being both a Star Wars and Scott Pilgrim fan was something I was both not expecting yet not at all surprised by
Sudahlah.
This is a beautiful collection of Illustrations from the Tokyo Ghoul: re series, the notes left by Ishida leave a wonderful insight into his process and opinions of his work. As an Illustration student, it is always fascinating to see into the mind of a published comic artist. I can't wait to look back through this during future projects for inspiration or just to admire how beautiful the artwork is.
not sure where to shelve this, because I did look at all 14 pages of this sampler, which was on Edelweiss - and looked like it was an advance copy of the entire book. I can't very well review/rate a full book when the publisher doesn't provide it, so - yes, the pages I did see were gorgeous but . . . too bad this wasn't the full book as it was purported to be.
I love Tokyo Ghoul’s artstyle and seeing so many beautiful coloured pieces by Sui Ishida in the one book is an amazing experience. I really want to get the original series’s Artbook as welll, and I think if Tokyo ghoul had full colour manga I would absolutely buy them even though I already have the full manga.
I love Tokyo Ghoul and Tokyo Ghoul:re. This was full of beautiful art and I loved every second of it. It was also nice to read the notes Ishida-sensei wrote beside the art.
It's from Sui Ishida, so it's as beautiful as you can expect it to be. Every work is a masterpiece in it's own right, along with a lot of never seen before, behind the scenes illustrations. There are also a lot of old interviews of his with new commentary at the back of the book. Definitely something that mega fans of Tokyo Ghoul can and will appreciate.
The only problem I had was the format in which it was presented. Zakki had a very easy to read format with Ishida- sensei's commentary on every illustration, even if it wasn't a lot, at the bottom of the page or to the side itself. This one doesn't have a lot of commentary, and when it does have commentary, it's on another page and is quite small, so it's a little difficult to read and be into it. I felt the format of Zakki superior in this regard, and while obviously there is the volume and sheer number of pictures, it was easier to pick zakki up and read it, compared to rë.
Another small nitpick I had was the fact that all the illustrations have the second editing done by the company which brought the covers out and sometimes it's good, but sometimes it just ruins the surreal effect of the art? It's not my cup of tea but I didn't mind it after a while; it could be yours.
So yeah, mega fans would seriously love this. I don't know if I can say the same for people who just read one manga or something. I'd recommend them zakki first, once they've finished every novel.
