Scientist, loner...werewolf?Fourteen years ago, I bit through the lip of the first boy brave enough to kiss me. Since then, I've acquired a Ph.D. in archaeology, a new teaching gig at a prestigious university, and research interests out the wazoo.Unfortunately, my social life is still as bleak as a raided Egyptian tomb.Until, that is, a stranger interrupts my class bearing the same ancient cat fang I see in my dreams. He's rough around the edges and entirely riveting. No wonder my inner monster wakes up and seizes the reins.Soon, wolf tracks appear on campus, the monster begins holding conversations without my permission, and a shadowy figure breaks into my office in search of the cat fang. Can I afford to reopen old wounds and display my darker side just when I'm finally finding my feet?Science meets myth in this first book in a complete romantic fantasy duology by the USA Today bestselling author of Wolf's Bane.
Aimee Easterling is a USA Today Bestselling author writing on the boundary between urban fantasy and paranormal romance. She specializes in spunky shifters and invites you to dive into her werewolf world in the Wolf Rampant trilogy, the spinoff Bloodling serial, and her new Alpha Underground series.
Studying biology and working as a naturalist have both informed Aimee's writing, but she's quite willing to let reality slide in favor of a good story. When not writing, she loves to read and always keeps books by Robin McKinley, Patricia Briggs, and Elizabeth Peters on her shelf. You can learn more at www.aimeeeasterling.com.
I love everything I have read of Aimee's, and the first book of this series is no exception. Olivia promises to be another strong female character and Claw promises to be a pain in the rump. Not sure yet who the recurring characters will be, other than Claw and Olivia's friend Susie, but I am sure we are in for a treat as Olivia figures out how to incorporate her wolf side into her life as a college professor. I can't wait to see what adventures she is going to have and how Claw will fit into them.
I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.
I've enjoyed other books by Ms Easterling but I struggled to finish this one. MC's constant struggle with her inner monster soon becomes boring. She has some kind of link to women from the prehistoric past which is never really explained. The best parts are where she is interacting with fully human characters. The rest is a tedious and confusing jumble.
This is the first book in the new Moon Blind series. While I look forward to the rest of the series, this book ends on a satisfying note, so don't be afraid of cliffhangers. As always, Aimee Easterling has produced a fun, suspenseful shifter story with an exciting plot.
I loved the idea of a werewolf archaeologist, but I struggled at first to relate to our heroine, Olivia, and I still don’t feel like I know the other characters very well. I think partly it may be because the werewolf lore is a little unclear in this first book. The book is written entirely from Olivia’s point of view, and for a significant portion of the book, she doesn’t even know that werewolves exist and is filled with a lot of self-doubt regarding her own sanity. While I wasn’t drawn in as deeply as with some of Ms. Easterling’s other books, I think this will be an interesting world to learn more about, and I liked the characters well enough to want to know what happens to them next.
This relatively quick read started with a great hook and held my interest until the end. It has an exciting, action-filled plot and manages to provide a few laughs. I did find it a little difficult at times to suspend disbelief, but overall, I found this to be an interesting and enjoyable read.
This book contains some violence, minimal swearing, and no sexual content.
I volunteered to review an advanced reader copy of this book provided to me by the author. The version I read was neatly formatted, and I did not notice any proofreading errors.
*Spoilers, but not really anything you wouldn't discover after reading the first chapter*
So, I don't often write reviews because even though I may give a book a 4 or even 5 star rating for good writing, most of my chosen genre (paranormal fiction) follow 2-3 regular tropes. I took a risk in actually buying this book (I am a KU addict) and I am SO glad I did! One, the main character isn't a 19 year old discovering she is THE ONE. Two, she doesn't get suddenly attacked and changed and then matched up with a male antagonist who rejects her until he just can't deny his feelings anymore (Getting old, folks. Getting old.) There is a male protagonist who has feelings but keeps his distance and I assume will have a greater storyline later. But this story does not revolve around that sub-plot (thank God!) This story revolves around an adult (!!), a professor/archeologist who, while always having her wolf as part of her life, has denied the reality of it, choosing to believe her domineering (and sadly underdeveloped character) father, who has told her she has a mental illness. Aimee Easterling then throws in a fantastic plot twist of having the main character have visions of a potentially past life (maybe?? Cant wait for book 2 to find out for sure!). Definitely not something I have seen before and it was a *very* refreshing sub-plot.
One thing I did find...odd, stylistically, was the choice of the characters to refer to the President by his full name. All the characters either call each other by their first or last names only. Calling the President "Jim Keltor" rather than "the President" or "President Keltor" every time was just weird. Maybe that is just me.
I thought the ending was almost a little too tidy. I guess I am so used to cliff hangers that it took me by surprise that it didn't play out that way. That said, it in no way reduces how much I am looking forward to the second book. I am definitely hooked on the story and I am excited to see where the author goes with them.
Spoilers.......Im confused about the heroines inner 'monster'. If it's inside her, why does she need the stuff to make it come out? What teeth (human or canine) went through her dates cheek or lip? & didn't she shift while sleeping & wake on the mat by the door? I liked the story but it went in confusing circles about her dual nature. & why would they take her along but not consider her advice? Though, considering she was either fainting or stumbling around, I guess she seemed a bumbling nerd.
There were a lot of things I liked about this. For instance, an archaeologist is not your average heroine! And the vocabulary used was refreshingly different. I can’t remember the last time I actually needed to use the dictionary function on my Kindle for a fantasy book. I also really enjoyed the multiple perspectives that the main character experienced, as well as seeing her “change” first hand, as opposed to it being described by a narration.
My only issue is that there are parts of the story that felt somewhat convoluted, and some which seemed under developed. The nature of Olivia’s trances was at times a little confusing, and her relationship with Claw felt really under developed. Just all of a sudden they have this romance, but it’s not a romance? I mean we know nothing about him, and he’s so terse that I can’t really understand the attraction between them. The relationship was rushed and just didn’t feel right.
None the less, it was a fun story, and I did really enjoy it. I’ll definitely pick up the next book.
Olivia Hart battles with the monster inside of her every day. Recently, the monster has become more active, and she wonders if she needs to change her medication. Yet when a stranger interrupts her archaeology class at her university, she needs her monster's skills to survive. Someone thinks she has an item and will stop at nothing to take it, but Olivia has no idea what they're talking about. Will she figure out the mystery or will she end up another victim like the professor who had her position before her?
This is a fantastic first book in an urban fantasy series featuring shifters. Not just any shifters, but werewolves with ties that go back to a time when humans hadn't even come to North America yet. I love how Olivia managed to reach back to that time, and not only with her archaeological skills. It's not often we get a very smart heroine like this, and it makes me love it all the more that she wears glasses and has a pet raven. There's great world building with the history of the shifters. Lots of great action and marvelous tension with Olivia and Claw.
I'm a sucker for anything archaeology. Not only was the story intriguing but there weren't any egregious errors! I just read a review where several readers couldn't get past the shockwaves in order space (apparently there aren't any) but there wasn't anything like that here. This was a somewhat different take on werewolves but interesting and I look forward to the next installment. If you've liked her previous books you certainly like this one!

ONE THRILLING RIDE!!! OMG! Talk about living on edge. A whirlwind of activities and events that keep you flipping page after page. Aimee's don't pull any punches, no holds barred, and take no prisoners attitude really set the tone for this fast paced read that leaves you wanting more. One amazing storyline and strong plot bring this read blazing to life brilliantly. The characters were realistic with personalities and depth that screamed for respect. Sparks fly as danger ensues in epic proportions. Heart pounding and pulse racing as their hot and steamy connection grows. The scenes were so vividly detailed and descriptive that it gives the illusion you were right there in the middle of ground zero with them. Twists and turns abound with unexpected circumstances that really pull this bad boy together flawlessly. Remarkable job Aimee, thanks for sharing this little gem with us.
An intriguing new series that I can't wait to get more of! The book is fast-paced and laced with mystery and suspense. Plenty of twists and turns that will keep you glued to the pages. Olivia is an archaeologist who has visions of a prehistoric past. She has been told she's crazy by her uncaring father her whole life, but when some strangers come to ask for her help, she discovers things she didn't know were possible. A wolf statue just may hold the clues she's been searching for about herself and the past. To solve the mystery, and survive, she must learn to trust her gut and follow her heart. The possible romance that is developing between her and Claw left me anxious for the next book in the series.
I both love and hate when an author I like introduces a new series. You don’t know what to expect, whether you will like the new series or not, and if you will be filled with despair at the characters involved. Ok, that’s a little dramatic, but I always open a new series with a little anticipation and a little trepidation. This series opener was excellent, however. Olivia is such a cute little character, and I loved Claw as her love interest. The plot was unique and I’m definitely looking forward to more in the series. I do have to say there were a couple points in the book where I was a little confused as to what was going on, especially at the beginning, but I figured things out pretty quickly. Try it, you’ll like it! I do recommend this book! I was provided the e-book which I voluntarily reviewed.
Dr. Olivia Hart has a Ph.D. in archaeology, teaches at a prestigious university, and has no personal life at all. When a mysterious stranger interrupts her class and awakens her inner beast, Olivia's life takes and unexpected turn that leads her into a dangerous mission to save and important political figure.
Exciting, action packed, and suspenseful plot with a mystery that kept me turning the pages. I loved these complex, and well written characters. Wow, a must read beginning to another wonderful series by a fantastic author. I loved this book.
I am voluntarily leaving an honest and non-incentivized review of this ARC.
Audiobook: I was entertained by this first book in the series. I found Olivia Hart to be an intriguing character who contained an inner monster which she couldn't always control or understand. I thought Olivia's condition was creative. I liked Claw Wolf who took his responsibilities seriously and who was determined to take care of his subordinates. I appreciated the flashes of humor. I enjoyed Whitney Dykhouse's narration as her performance provided various voices for the different characters. I was given a copy of the audiobook through Spotify. I volunteered, without financial gain, to post this review which reflected my honest opinions regarding this audiobook.
Aimee Easterling has done it again. She has wrote a book that keeps you riveted and engaged till the end. I love the mystery throughout the book. Olivia relationship with her father is an indifferent one and leaves her with always trying to seek his approval, despite that she grew into a smart and strong woman. I can't wait to see how Claw and Olivia's relationship develops. I love Adena her personality is a little sassy. I don't want to give any spoilers away so I'll just say this was an excellent start to a new series. I can't wait for the next installment.
I love Aimee Easterling's writing, the strong lead characters in her books, usually so full of humorous activities that I can't wait to turn the page. Wolf Dreams is no exception. Aimee wrote a smart, educated, amazing lead female character with a few flaws, making both funny and relatable.
The story had its ups & downs with surprises & drama.
I recommend this one. And when you're done, go back & read Aimee's other books. You'll love them!
*I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
Suddenly, Olivia was a person of interest and facing, again, fears she thought were under control. Was her mind twisting her reality or there was some truth behind her visions? She was aught into an exciting and dangerous situation that brought lot of questions and … Action, suspense, drama, intrigue, mystery, violence and romance. As the first book in the series it was intriguing, have strong characters and a good plot development that left me waiting for the next book because I want to know more. Like this stories that keep me using my imagination and leave me thinking.
To me, Olivia seems to be a conflicted powerhouse. My reaction to Olivia's father was, "Goodbye, never loving." I found Claw and his team are judgmental and demeaning. It was all of this conflict, along with the mystery to be solved, that made the story so interesting and enjoyable.
Action-packed. Easy-to-read. Entertaining. Great world building. Haunting. Page-turner. Scary. Tear-jerker. Tragic. Twisted. Unpredictable. Wonderful characters.
Part of Shifter Origins II (Series-Starter Shifter Variety Packs Book 2).
If you like stories about shifters, you'll enjoy this novel. We've visited this world before, this time we're looking at it from a non werewolf perspective, or are we? Dr. Hart is an archaeology professor, who is dragged into National Security issues that overlap some of her own. Her belief in science is questioned in this fast paced, suspenseful and action packed book. A great start to a new series, I'm looking forward to book 2.
Olivia knows that she is different. Her father has tried to make her overcome her mental illness. Hearing voices, biting boyfriends - that's just not normal. Olivia becomes involved with the President's security team and starts to uncover her true self.
Aimee draws believable characters (well, werewolves are real, aren't they?) and persuades you to care about them and their flawed/clawed existence.
A truly unique read! This storyline put the dual nature of wolf shifters or werewolves in the spotlight. Blend this with archeology, spiritual trances, and magically endowed artifacts and the intrigue and suspense just fills the pages. I actually found the off kilter relationship with Claw to be very attention grabbing. Definitely not a cookie cutter romance! Loved this authors one of a kind perspective! All my reviews are always voluntarily written.
Watching Olivia struggle through so many hurdles she became very real. Her lack of connection with her father looks incredibly painful. I loved the raven. And I bet there’s an awesome story for Claw to tell. It must take spectacular effort to control an inner wolf. The entire story was so well written you could feel the cold and hear the voices. If you like wolf shifters then this book is a must!
A little cheesy, a little too extra with the storyline. The whole werewolf morphology/history/creation is a lot foggy. Some words of expressions were a bit awkward but... this was a light and entertaining "read". The narrator did a decent job at individual voices if some pronunciations of big words were a bit off but nobody is perfect.
I am absolutely interested in the second and final book of this series, guess I'll have to stalk Hoopla to see if it is ever released.
A little archaeology, werewolves and a few secrets
ARC received in exchange for an honest review.
Wow. A different take on becoming a werewolf. Olivia the professor who cares about her students is a new favourite character. She finds her perceived normal challenged by the reality she faces. Adena the raven may be a new favourite quirky supporting character. Then there is Claw.....
Enjoyed this one so much I reread it. Now the wait for book 2.
I think this is my new favorite from Aimee Easterling. It sets a fast pace that keeps the pages turning. As with her other books, the characters are unique and don't necessarsialy react the way the reader might expect, keeping you guessing till the end. All in all a great read Enjoy!
I enjoyed this book. Olivia was a well developed character. I laughed at her often and loved how she spoke internally a lot lol. This is a great start to a new series. I love this authors writing style ... she knows how to grab your attention so your involved in the story from start to finish. I received an ARC for an honest review.
I lost the review I thought I saved so I am going on my shaky memory. I know that I really enjoyed this due to the angst, drama, emotions and romance with a bit of mystery thrown in. I liked the strong woman archaeologist and the stranger who breaks into her classroom.
I voluntarily chose to read an advance copy and in no way was i compensated or this opinion.
I love every one of the series that this author has written and yipped when I found out that there was a new series started. As always with this authors books the characters and world building are unique and meld perfectly together. This was a great start to a new series and I can not wait to read more! I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book
A professor who doesn't know her inner beast, a mystery surrounding a wolf artifact, a President in need of help and a man who smells inviting are just part of this story of discovery. This book is a good read with characters who grab your imagination. The story line is good and there were no typos to distract from the story. I recommend it to anyone who likes shifter stories.
In this newest book, Olivia is an archaeologist/professor. She also has a breast inside and had visions of the past. She doesn't understand what this means. She is suddenly confronted with action and drama while helping the President of the United States. Will she be get able to pull it off and still keep her job? I can't wait for the next one! Great job!
