A thoroughly researched and lavishly illustrated work. Who would have thought there would be so many notable photographers working out of Victorian and Edwardian Whitby. It wasn't all Frank Meadow Sutcliff. Not all were exactly well-known and in these cases there is a heavy reliance on census information. Hence lots of home addresses over time and a lot of declared professions. I must admit, when this happened I did lose interest. Fortunately, the more fleshed-out records were quite fascinating. I will be revisiting this book as a reference or just to browse the gorgeous photographs once more.
