Continuing his journey through the unknown Island of Britannia, Cai is trying to build a reputation in order to earn his place amongst the warrior’s he’s fighting alongside. The question that doesn’t seem to go away, is whether he’s good enough; whether all those years of training, and thinking he was ready, had truly prepared him for what he was now going through.
Hiding much of his fear, Cai is determined to find a way; to prove he’s worthy of a place amongst those he’s looked up to all his life. Struggling to learn things he thought he already knew, Cai, although he doesn’t fully understand it at the time, begins realising all is not as it seems; whether in his expectations of becoming a Legionnaire, or in the consequences of unseen actions.
Cai knows he must try and get to know those around him but even this, is nearly cut short by disaster. Even his friendship with Tibs, changes, when he starts realising how Tibs seems able to withstand more than he thought possible, but is stunned when Tibs tells him something he isn’t sure he agrees with.
After experiencing so much in a short period of time, and being thrust into situations he’s not even sure he’s ready for, Cai is forced to make decisions based on intuition; some of which he’s incredibly grateful for, but some may take him down a path he doesn’t fully understand.
