In a functioning world there must be order and those who keep it. The planet Marien slides in and out of its order far more often than most would think, but that's why she was made. Zifeara Nightshade exists to keep the world working as it should; preventing those who have discovered a way to defy the laws of death from altering their course or the paths of others. She'd always seen her own immortality as a tool of her trade, using it to extinguish the psuedo-immortals cropping up here and there, but lately there's more to it than business. Much more.Slipping between the past and present to keep the timeline consistent isn't as easy as it sounds and when Zifeara's best friend, Fang Nightstalker, convinces her that he should be helping complete her tasks, she has one more thing to worry about. Add a young tiger demon with a firm interest in Zifeara, shapeshifting shenanigans, a madman with grand plans of human enslavement, and a love story gone completely awry into the mix. What you're left with could quite possibly turn out completely demented.
This is a great debut. Essentially a road-trip through a world of demons and humans, with time-travel, epic battles and shenanigans, it's a real page-turner.
Of the three main characters, Fang is my favourite. Perhaps it's because I find him to be the most relatable. He was the character I clicked with and rooted for. His poor eyesight and almost debilitatingly good hearing are things he has to overcome and learn to work with in order to survive the violent world he finds himself travelling through, while also combating his feelings for Zifeara and questioning his sexuality.
Zifeara is snarky and wonderful, and even though she seems a little OP at first, she is revealed to be a far more rounded character with fears and insecurities of her own.
Aun is also a great final addition to the trio. He acts as Fang's rival, but he becomes much more as the story progresses, and they are both necessary for one another's development.
The story is gripping and exciting. It is not perfect, but I enjoyed it and will definitely be reading the rest of this series. The author has clearly poured her heart into the world and characters, and this book is a really good beginning.
Despite being a demigod, demon, and vampire, these chatacters were so fun and relatable. Mixing real life personalities with a strange intriguing time traveling world makes for quite the enjoyable read. Aun, Fang, and Zifeara are sassy, spunky, and maybe a little demented but that makes them all the more entertaining to read about. Check this story out ASAP!!!
