Mid-way through the global pandemic, I realized that I wanted to start living with more intention in my life. I found this book at my local yoga studio and had a feeling that it would enhance my understanding of what it means to live with intention. As this book caught my eye, I asked, "Am I truly living with intention?" I read on. To my surprise, the book validated my daily practices and it offered me suggestions on how to make improvements to my life. Furthermore, I love how the book is organized. It's something that I can read again anytime, especially when I am feeling out-of-balance or am experiencing more stress in my life. I hope to return to this book later.

Just very meh and I DNF at about 75%. Lots of nice suggestions at first focusing on adding intentional practices into every day life but became very repetitive and a bit “woo-woo” towards the end.
Nice suggestions included walking in the rain, savouring your food, sniff a memory, re energise your eyes...
Woo woo suggestions included holding a coin as a symbol for attaching wealth, installing a wish fulfilling jewel etc... you get the picture.
In short, employ mindfulness, sensory experiences, kindness and gratitude in your life for an overall happier and more enriched life...

It's rare for me to give a book such a low rating but I found that even just after reading a couple of chapters and the 'advice/guidance' offered in them, that I wanted to be done with this book. It took me less than 2 hours to read and I hope it finds a good home when I donate it to my local charity shop early next year. Hopefully someone else will enjoy it far more than I did.

TL;DR: On the surface, this seemed to be promising and offer lots of medatative and intentional practices I could incorporate into my daily life easily. There were maybe a handful of takeaways while the rest came across fairly tone deaf.

REVIEW:

Regardless of my personal opinion on this book, I'll still end up keeping it (at least for a while) since my best friend gifted it to me.

This is not the kind of book that you just sit down and read cover to cover. It's one that I picked up and put down over and over thought the course of most of a year. I would read an intention or two each day and try to incorporate the practice throughout my day. At least that was what I had planned to do, but that proved extremely impractical almost right away.

The book states that these practices are "simple", but so many of them were completely off the wall or just not attainable for most people. Not everyone has access to the majority of what Lester discusses in this book.

I do think the different "sections" the book is broken down into and the commentary on these sections was valuable. Other than that, I think there are better resources for intentional and mindful practices out there that would actually be more impactful and helpful.

Final verdict: Mostly rubbish. Don't bother.
