Miguel (formally Kyle MacDonald) and his team are retained by a UAE sheikh to recover his kidnapped son, before he has to pay a $35m ransom. The son is released unharmed, however, the sheikh wants the team to find out more about the kidnapper, and tells Miguel to keep the meter running.
Investigations lead them to a rogue general in North Korea, who used the money to finance a sinister plot to unleash havoc in the region with a nuclear threat. Miguel and his team must infiltrate North Korea to learn of the maniac's plan. As the scenario unfolds in the South China Sea, tensions run high between the U.S., China and the DPRK.
Can Miguel stop the general before he executes his plan that could destabilize the Pacific … and start World War III?
I'm a few days late to write this because I was pressed for time when I wanted to get the book included in the 2020 challenge !This is very absorbing and dangerous fictional ( thank heavens!) account of a rogue North Korean official very close to the current Great Leader. He has had a life-long hatred of America, stemming from the Korean War, when his whole village, including his parents were killed. Of course, he forgets to factor in the fact that this whole village was complicit in supporting the Communists wholeheartedly. I do have one question for the author, who is a master at building suspense and popping surprises, but I am still not sure exactly what happened to Meung soo?
Another neat follow on from the last book. This time the team are again up against the clock to prevent a nuclear attack on Guam. But the story starts in Costa Rica with the kidnapping of a Sheik' s son and soon moves onto the UAE then to Korea. Good descriptions of each location makes you feel you are there with them. Looking forward to the next in the series and this novel neatly gives a spin off for Maria' s Revenge.
