The last memory that Alannah ‘Lanie’ Jackson has of her father is the day he went away. Hidden away in an attic from the rest of the world, the only thing that Alannah ‘Lanie’ Jackson can hold on to is the memory of her father and the hope that one day he will come for her. Every day that passes, the memory of her childhood disappears and she learns that her only purpose now is to please. Trained to act a certain way, the day comes when she can finally be free. She only hopes that the man who purchases her will be kinder than her current master.

My love for writing began several years ago after an early retirement from a demanding job that I loved and hated because it consumed so much of my time. Now, I can focus my time on what I love. Writing romance has been a lifelong dream and to actually say that I am a published author is beyond what I would have ever expected.
Even though some may say I have a little naughtiness in my books, I look at it as an added bonus for my readers. After all, what is a romance book without a little spice?
When I am not writing, I enjoy spending time with friends either at home or out on the town. Mostly, I enjoy a relaxing night at home where I can enjoy a glass of wine in the company of a good book.
Out of everything, she enjoys driving in her little convertible with the top down.
I received an advance review copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
First of all I would like to point out that despite this book being marketed as BDSM, it's actually just erotic romance. Emphasis on romance, it was hardly erotica!
Anyways, I did not enjoy this book as much as I would've liked. It just lacked so much. The characters were just unbelievable and the different POVs morphed into each other at times. They lacked distinctive voices and the MC's personality was not consistent at times. The attitudes of her character given her background were just not realistic enough. She kept changing color!
I felt like the book was too short for the plot it was tackling, so it ended up being extremely underwhelming. I honestly could not connect with anyone or anything.
Most of all though, I hated the romance. If you could call it that. I think the MC's attachment to the hero was because of her life circumstances and the fact that for her, the hero was the first person who was ever kind to her besides her father that she remembers very little of, so obviously she interprets that feeling of safety away from her abuser as love. And the hero seemed to be dick motivated. His character tried too hard to be the good guy that it was laughable. Honestly I have no clue as to why anybody did anything in this book! They were all orchestrated to act a certain way despite all reason! As I've mentioned, the characters were pretty untouchable. And my heart remained a cold hard stone throughout this entire story. It's not that I don't like romance, it's just that I like it to be real love and not fake attachment. For me the hero was more like a father figure to the MC so the two sex scenes were extremely awkward to get through!
I don't know who I would recommend this book to. If you like a short and fast romance with a "protective" hero and a damsel in distress, this book is for you. Otherwise there are better books to read.
Short story centering around 19 year old girl who has been living with a douchebag of a master for 14 years. Gets sold to a guy who actually is a Dom that helps girls. More of a set up to me for the series than a story within itself. Roman is the good guy, Winston is bad and Alannah (Lanie) is the pawn that had been toyed with until she only knows to follow commands. Not my usual read but so simple that easy to read when one's attention span is low.
The story is a strange erotic romance. It lacks any sexual punch and the romance is based on exploitation. Basically having reached an age, Allanah is ready to be sold for profit by her master. As a submissive she has already been used for other men’s pleasure. Now it some weird auction some respectable businessman is prepared to pay over the odds for his prize because of her beauty. I found this premise incomprehensible and her saviour less than gallant however noble his own commentary. I liked the alternating between the male and female protagonists to recount this tale. However, I could not take a relationship serious where money had changed hands and the right course of action for any decent person would have been to expose these practices rather than benefiting from them.
edit: I just want to add a few more thoughts to clarify my position on the story.
I think readers of dark erotica might like this, and mainstream readers will likely be offended. I agree with the review that says the romance is based on exploitation and the hero isn't completely heroic. That taboo, un-pc element is appealing to some readers. In real life Winston should have been jailed, and Lanie should have been in therapy instead of with Roman. Fortunately this story is fiction and not real life.
If you like your romances on the dark side, this short novella is worth checking out.
The story is about Lanie, a young 19 year old girl, who has been held captive in "Master" Winston's mansion since she was 5 years old. There are no explicit descriptions of abuse, but what is left unsaid makes it all the more disturbing.
Roman purchases her, and takes it upon himself to show Lanie kindness. A large part of the plot is Roman helping Lanie find her father. Readers wanting a protective hero and like romances that occur in dark places will find one between Roman and Lanie.
Lanie's story is very sad, and a bit unbelievable at times. Since Lanie had been with Winston since she was five, I was surprised she could read and write. There was no mention of her ever attending school. I think it's important to start this story with the idea that this is a dark romantic fantasy. There's a sense of realism that's missing, but if you're wanting a quick dark romance this fits the bill. It's well-written and engaging.
I believe the author had a great idea for this book and storyline really has lots of potential. But unfortunately the author also missed an opportunity to write a full length novel with fully developed characters and storyline. Due to being so short, this book fell flat for me in the end. There were just so many aspects the author could have explored to bring more depth to storyline and characters.
Allanah has been held captive since she was 5 years old. 14 years later she is groomed to be the perfect submissive and ready to be sold to a highest bidder.
First of, this book was listed as erotic romance/romantic suspense. However, two steamy scenes were more like author tiptoeing around wanting to write a sex scene but not being completely sure about how much details to use. There was nothing erotic about those two scenes and they were more on the sweet romance side than sexy. The characters were also lacking in development, but that was somehow expected considering number of pages of this story. Also Roman was portrayed as a really weak Dom/Master.
This was my first time reading a book by this author and I don’t want to sound too harsh, but for me it seemed like author just added BDSM and Dom/submissive aspect to keep up with popularity of those lifestyles in romance and erotic novels and to attract more readers. If you expect to read a sexy explicit story with developing relationship between master and submissive you better pass this one. There’s nothing erotic about it.

Alannah 'Lanie' Jackson is a meek but lovely woman, who only knows how to serve men. She was taken at the age of 5 years old and sold to a man for the next 15 years, no one knows what happened to her in the big mansion. Now roll on nearly 15 years later (she's now nearly 20 years old) and she is sold once again to someone else. BUT can this new master be any different to what her old master was or is she carrying on with a life as a down-trodden submissive?
This is not for the faint-hearted. You will read about certain BDSM things but with a story behind the whole BDSM facade is a brilliant mind of the author who draws you in bit by bit and makes you LOVE Alannah 'Lanie' and root for her to a happy ending. This book unfortunately will make you want more as there is a book 2 of the series and OH BOY do I want to know what happens next.
Bought was a novella length read, and there were some pieces to the story that I would have liked to see more developed. Lanie is a victim of her circumstances, completely under Master Winston's control for most of her life and hidden away from the world. There are some dark elements, although I have read darker, more explicit stories. I liked that we finally get to see a different side to Lanie in the latter half of the book. Roman was so-so as a main male character, and although he was determined to have Lanie, I didn't find him to be a strong Dom/Master. I would have liked to see this extended into a longer story.
Lanie's story is pretty sad, between the lines. I found I was wishing for more detail and then glad it wasn't there. Imagination was plenty. I was so glad Roman found her.
Lanie is a sex slave. Kept by her Master, Winston, and taken out only when he wants her to entertain. She has been taught to be submissive, to pleasure others, and to never take pleasure for herself. One day comes, this day is different, her Master is selling her. All Lanie is wondering about is whether this new Master will be as cruel as her other one.
Roman feels the absolute need to buy Lanie and save her from the cruelty of the other buyer. There is something about this woman, no girl, that just draws him to her. Who is this girl? Where did she come from? How did she come to be in the possession of Winston?
This story has such great potential but the author did not capture it. The mystery surrounding Lanie and how she got to be in Winston's tender care was a great start. When that part of the story came to an end, it was poorly written and very anticlimactic. The developing relationship between Lanie and Roman again was a great start, but it was lacking depth and development. The whole book sorely lacked character development and all those details that make the story speak to the readers. This felt more like a highly detailed synopsis of a much better book.
This book for me is a difficult book to review. I know this is book one in a series so I’m sure that many more details will be revealed but I was left with more questions after finishing this book. We know that Roman has dealt with Winston in the past so does Roman also traffic women? I found it particularly abhorrent that Lanie was trafficked at the age of five and left to rot in a mansion for fifteen years. I also wonder why a successful thirty something intelligent and worldly man would want a naive, developmentally arrested, socially ignorant nineteen year old, except for the obvious. I love you is said early on....I mean it’s at the end of the book, but not the relationship and it’s a huge leap for me to make that Roman can honestly love Lanie. I think the author would have been better off condensing the series to fewer books. I voluntarily read this for for a fair and honest review.
The plot for this book could have been developed a lot more. It would’ve worked for me then. As written, I just don’t believe Lanie would react how she does. After her trauma, it likely would’ve required more time for her to become comfortable and willing.
This story has a little of everything, sweet romance, sexy overbearing and frustrating alpha make and a beautiful woman who has the right heart and spirit. Thoroughly enjoying and entertaining. "I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book."

This is more of a novella or a serial than a full story, I feel like this is a new thing that a lot of self published romance writers are doing now and I'm not sure I'm a fan. There is no true ending to the books they just seem to leave you on a slight cliff hanger until the next installment.
This book is marketed as a BDSM novel but its not. Lanie was taken from her father at age 5 and held captive and tortured to submit until she is sold - this is not BDSM this is abuse and exploitation.
Now she has a new "Master" who tries to treat her with respect and teach her about the world but lets face it in 80 pages there isn't much to this story. The characters weren't well developed and the ending jumped the shark for me. I've read a lot of really enjoyable, erotic BDSM romances and this is not one of them.
I did read the 2nd and got partway into the 3rd books hoping it would get better but it doesn't. I honesty don't understand the motivations of any of the characters and feel that anyone would be taking advantage of Lanie at this point regardless of how they both say they feel. How does she even know how she feels she hadn't even been kissed!
I've read other books by this author which I've enjoyed. While I was intrigued by the premise of the story, I was disappointed that there wasn't more depth to the storyline. Everything was a bit too convenient. Where's her justice? Why wasn't there consequences for the man we are introduced initially. I never really connected with the story because I never really got to know the characters. He comes out of nowhere - no details whatsoever. We read about her reactions to things but can only wonder about her life. While I was glad not to read more about her situation, it might have helped the story and our understanding of her reactions. He doesn't discuss anything with her - not what she's to expect or anything. She's stunted mentally and yet he uses her because he can't control himself? We read that she's supposed to be a submissive - having been 'trained' as one but his actions do not indicate he is a Dom. He can't control himself until she's healthier - physically and mentally? Needs more.
Thank you to BookSirens and the author for giving me a free copy to review.
I’m sorry to say I didn’t like this book. The story wasn’t captivating or developed. The characters were only names on a page, the author never gave any background stories about them (except for Lanie and it wasn’t much), you have no idea what drives these characters and why they are in this story. The time period wasn’t always clear. The story takes place over a few days and the author sometimes implies that a few weeks have come and gone. There were also some spelling and grammar mistakes in the book. I know there are four books in this series and maybe everything about the characters will be explained in it, but I doubt I will pick them up.
This was a highly disappointing book. I realize it is a short story, but if you leave out so much of the substance, it shouldn't be published. Lanie is trapped in an old mansion, with a "master" who is selling her. She's 19, and hasn't left the mansion since she came there when she was 5. Basically she's a sex slave. The end of the book tries to explain why she ends up there, but it falls very short of doing that. I just didn't get why Roman purchased her to begin with. Really disappointed.
No stars, because I not only absolutely hated the experience but couldn't get past one particularly infuriating development to finish it. (More about that in the spoiler marked sections.)
First off, the writing style is repetitive and the book is filled with errors an editor should have noticed. ("Aquittance" where it should say "acquaintance," "too" where it should say "to.") Nearly every sentence follows the same structure. Example: "Taking her by the hand, I was surprised to find that she wasn’t as reluctant to accept it as she had been earlier. Leading her to the couch, I waited until she took a seat before sitting beside her. Catching her move away, I knew she was uneasy with the close space between us."
Both narrating characters have the same, detached voice such that their narration is only distinguishable by the actual context and content and not the voice used. ALL characters speak in the same, unnatural voice, and none of them sound like people in their circumstances should. Have an example from a flashback a couple of pages in, between a five-year-old child and her dad: “Push me higher, Daddy, I want to go higher and fly like the birds.” / “Lanie, if I push you any higher you are going to fall.” / “I won’t, Daddy. I promise to hold on tight.” It just doesn't sound at all like a father/daughter interaction or like a child at all and I don't know a single person who speaks so 'properly' in everyday circumstances.
And worldbuilding... well, if only there were some! It's confusingly inconsistent. During the first two pages, we discover that the narrator has been in captivity for fourteen years (from the book summary and context clues, we know she has been kept and trained as a sex slave)... yet she knows the exact town and state where she lives and has access to a window leading outdoors which she apparently doesn't use to attempt escape. She also remembers knowing her dad put in extra hours at work to buy her a swing set. As if she'd have known back then or had any context to learn the concept of working overtime in the time she's been held captive in an attic and pimped out by a horrible man.
And I mean unbelievably horrible - as well as inconsistently. Regardless, it's impossible to believe that she wasn't killed years ago by this psycho, since she seems to think begging that way is the proper response to his presence and he seems to think it's a "charade" worthy of cruelly hurting her. It's been fourteen years; she'd have surely learned by now not to think that would help and he'd have surely hurt her far worse after the first few times it happened in the past.
Then there's the portrayal of BDSM. Specifically, while I'm completely okay with the fact that bad people absolutely do make use of the practices and lifestyle, I take issue with our supposed saviour-protagonist clearly having no concept of Safe, Sane, Consensual while also apparently owning a BDSM club. Not to mention that it's highly unlikely the owner of such a club, if a decent person, would turn a blind eye to a colleague who abuses and sells young women as slaves or coldly dismiss this as not his business after discovering that one such girl was acquired as a child.
Which, of course, leads us to the completely mixed-up and deplorable mess that is supposed to be the protagonist who saves the traumatized female lead. This is billed as a romance and it's no spoiler - given the book summary reveals it - to say he purchases her to save her. Morally grey, sure, but it shows a kind heart. He drops a large sum of money to protect the girl when he sees how young and scared she looks; he can't stand the idea of having her abused further. I like this. It's a good concept for a dark BDSM story with a traumatic past for one of the characters. What I don't like is how he behaves afterward.
Roman learns immediately that Lanie has been held captive for fourteen years by a man he knows to be sexually and physically abusive - and that she's only nineteen now. He doesn't even show a hint of disgust toward the implications or the fact she was literally taken as a child. It may as well have been the weather they were discussing! But it gets worse, because apparently our supposed hero doesn't comprehend anything remotely related to consent or human decency and decides that it's a great idea to use Lanie "to show her pleasure" as if that's doing her some big favour.
Beyond that, emotional moments are flat and feel clinical, with someone who should be deeply psychologically scarred sounding far too adjusted and aware of her own issues. It's not convincing when a character detachedly mentions an inner conflict which should be causing duress or addresses almost-clinically thoughts which should be happening subconsciously instead of within their awareness. Perhaps as a third-person narrative it would have worked better, but even then the writing had too many weak points for me to think I would have enjoyed it with only a POV change.
It's a shame, because I liked the premise of someone escaping abuse and sexual slavery with the help of a kind person who falls in love with them and buys their freedom. With a better protagonist and stronger writing, the concept could be good. But that's just not the case here. At all.
(Full disclosure: I recieved a review copy of this book through BookSirens. As mentioned, I did not manage to finish reading and have thus abstained from giving a starred review.)
The book is about how the hero Roman helps the heroine Alannah, who has been slaved since she was five years old, to overcome her shell and help her become a better woman.
Though it can be categorized as a Dark Romance, I'd say that there weren't any gory details to make you cringe and you can surely read it even if you aren't a fan of such genre. After reading so many books about this Dark Erotic genre, I sort of stopped feeling for the heroines. It was the same old story and so I became phlegmatic and impassive. 'BOUGHT: A Last Chance Series' by A.L. Long is the book that finally made me feel some emotions. I felt so sad for the heroine.
There is this one instance where Roman is telling her to live her life and experience the world and Alannah asks him if he could show her how. Oh my God. That scene was written so beautifully and it just broke my heart. Some might say that Alannah is weak because she was captive for fifteen years and did nothing to get out. I don't think she was weak at all. She was a fighter. Just because a heroine is mouthy and gobby doesn't mean she is strong. Our heroine did what she had to do to survive. She endured everything and still came out winning and that is strength for me.
Roman is a gem. Real men don't need to prey on helpless women. The hero had bought the heroine, so essentially, he could have done anything with her. But he never once forced her. He took things at her pace. He is a man who knows what he wants.
To see Alannah come out of her shell was absolutely stunning. Reading about the memories that she has of her Dad made my heart ache. So, many of the reviews on Goodreads are saying that the book was too short. I personally think that it was of perfect length. If the author managed to give us insight as well as developed her characters precisely in the same pages, then why should she drag the story and make it boring and mundane just for the sake of it?
I don't understand why this book isn't being blown up already. It is so amazing, it should have a huge following by now.

This is the first book in this series. If you read my review of Slaved (the second book of the series), you will know that I read that one first. This book starts with lovely Alannah (Lanie) found sitting in the attic in her makeshift bedroom under the blankets for warmth. She came to Master Winston Nelson at the age of five and is now 19. It is implied that she has had to service many visitors to the mansion and is always hoping that a nice visitor will take her away forever.
Suitors/Masters have been brought to the mansion to buy Alannah. Martin Holland and Roman Michaels have arrived in Last Chance to see her and possibly buy her. Roman sees Alannah and wants nothing more than to protect her from what a life with Nelson or Holland would entail. A bidding war ensues and Roman is the winner in the end.
The book continues with Roman taking Lanie back to his house and trying to get her acquainted with society again. Though she is timid and scared, the attraction between the two is undeniable. A.L. Long definitely has the sex scenes down to a science. As a reader you a feeling every word, every tug, every brush, every stroke. Roman, the owner of a strip/dominate club, knows how to be a Master but does he want Lanie to be his Slave.
This book takes an intimate look at the roles in the Dominate society and makes you look at them in a new light. Maybe every Master isn't bad... maybe being a Slave is not so bad if you have a Master that cares for you.
I highly recommend this series. The books are pretty short and keep you interested the whole time. I can't wait for the next book to come out.

Bought is a really emotional read that takes the reader on a very dark journey exposing just how perverted and twisted some "people" are.
This is the story of Alannah Jaskson, who was taken from her father at the age of 5 and raised to be a submissive and to serve men. Master Winston is a very cruel and mean man who over the last 14 years has tortured Alannah into a woman who hides all of her feelings and thoughts. She has been visited by men over the years who have done things to her. Now Master Winston is selling Alannah to the highest bidder and there are two in the bidding war - Roman Michaels and Martin Holland. Roman wins the bidding and takes Alannah with him. But he is not just her new "owner" but also her rescuer as he plans to retrain her and then give her freedom.
There are many facets to the story of Alannah and Roman, along with Master Winston and Martin Holland. Bought is the first book in a series and as such we are given hints of things to come in later books. It also ends on an interesting situation with some things revealed as to Alannah's father and how she came to be with Master Winston. But not all is as it appears and this is the undercurrent in this book...............no one is as they truly appear and everyone's story is deeper than originally thought. We also see how Alannah reacts to being give freedom to feel and react to her own sexuality, instead of just being there to serve the man.
I received a free ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.
It was an enjoyable read. It had great description of each character. Although we did not get the description of the man who took her from her father and kept her in his mansion attic for 15 years. Lanie was a woman who was captured when she was 5 to sell debt for her father. First of all, 20 years ago you wouldn’t believe that could actually happen. But in this day in age, yes absolutely could happen.
When Lanie was taken away from the world of being a submissive to the max, her life changed in an instant.
She was saved by a man named Roman. Who pretty much showed her the world in a week. He was semi-dominant but saw what kind of torture Lanie was living. She would shake at a noise, became startled when he tried to hold her hand. Eventually she grew accustom to being treated like a princess. Although the love scenes were nice, felt it was rushed a bit with her willing to give in so easily to him.
And the one thing Lanie wanted to know is if her father was still alive. They went to where she lived with her dad to find him. When Lanie’s dad turned out to be the complete opposite of what she remembered it can’t always end up all Peaches and Cream.
Although I liked how Roman was dominant in a caring way, still didn’t believe how you can quickly love a glorious woman of the bat. With the history of what she dealt through. I guess you can fall head over heels for someone with a lot of baggage. That seem to be the downfall for me. It was to rushed and I didn’t feel I was fully invested in each character as much as I would if of liked. It was a nice short sweet story with a HEA

This was the first novel I have ever read of this author and it was a quick read that was still full of emotion.
We have both points of view, from Alannah 'Lanie' and Roman. And it's always interesting to see a romance story in both the main characters views because it allows the reader to get more information about them, their feelings and thoughts, as well as that is happening around them.
Although it has references to BDSM it's more of a Romance than a dark or kinky romance kind of story. Of course, it has some dark elements that we immediately see once we read the first chapter and get to discover how Lanie came to be in that place. And after all that time in the attic, it was sweet to see Lanie discover another side of the world. It does make me sad, though, because she's just nineteen.
I do have to say that after reading book one I felt it was too short, I wanted to read more... I wanted to read the next one. Thankfully, it's a series so the reader can continue the story one book after the other.
But!... The good thing about a short story is that it's like a fun snack, and I love those because they are enjoyable and good to read when we are waiting at a doctor's appointment. Which was exactly what I did!
Overall, I enjoyed the book. There was a couple of secrets and mysteries that kept thing interesting, I read it in one sitting and it was a good start of a series.
[I received a complimentary copy of this book thanks to A.L. Long, via BookSirens. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.]
The beginning of a twisted erotic tale of capturing, selling and more of one poor girl, Lanie Since she was five years old, Alannah Jackson has been held at Winston’s home, in his attic for 14 long years. Now, 19 years old, Alannah will be sold by Winston to the highest bidder. He has trained her to be a submissive over all these years in a most cruel way. She lost her innocence a long time ago. And she continues to fondly remember the last time she saw her father…when he walked away. Roman Michaels about 33 years old runs a successful business and owns his own BDSM club on the side. He has been summoned by Winston to see the merchandise but has been warned, he has competition. When Roman arrives, he sees Martin Holland there and is determined to have Alannah before Holland gets his hands on her. I hope we find out why he was so adamant that Holland should not get her. This is the beginning of a five-book tale of abuse, possession, tragedy with love thrown in for good measure. I can’t wait to read the rest to get the full story. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through BookSirens and it comes recommended for readers who don’t mind reading serials with suspense, mystery and steam. I give it 4.5 stars.
Alannah ‘Lanie’ Jackson knows no other than to make sure a man is given the best treatment possible. Her own needs dont matter, Master Winston had made sure of that. Alannah was taken at the age of 5 and trained to be a submissive. Lanie hoped her father would find her soon it had been 15 years and still no sight of him coming to rescue her. Master Winston told her to get ready they had visitors. Winston was selling her off. Roman was shocked when he saw Lanie she looked scared and that didnt sit well with him so there was no chance he was leaving without her. But is Roman ready for the way that Lanie has been taught?? Can Lanie let her guard down and see Roman for the man he is?? OMG I went through even emotion reading this book. I want to seriously hurt Winston and hug Roman for saving her. Their relationship is so sweet but when the smallest thing will set Lanie off its a slow process. This was a great short read and I cant wait to read book 2. This is my first book by A.L Long and I must say that I love your style of writing. Im excited to read more this author. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This is my first read by Ms. Long. This novella is one part of a series. It is not a complete story. So not all questions will be answered. I liked the story. However a few major things needed more details to them. Did Master Winston have Allanah homeschooled since she was never let out of the mansion? His personality seemed like the type that wouldn’t care if she was schooled. Roman has everything going for him why the need to buy a submissive? What’s the relationship with Roman and Winston? How is it Roman knows him and why does he deal with him? I think things things needed more details and fuller explanations. On the surface I liked Roman. But I needed to know how he’s involved with the shader character in the book in order to better understand him. Lanie was like a naive little girl. Even though she’s been trained as a sex slave. She wasn’t allowed out of her room except when Winston needed his guests entertained. When Lanie needs answers into her past Roman agrees to help her. The author gives the reader a stunning piece of Lanie’s past. Book two needs to be read to see what happens next with Lanie and Roman.
i read this book as part of an arc program. This is the story of Lanie and Roman. Roman was a successful businessman who was contacted by Master Winston and told he had someone Roman had to see. When Roman went to Master Winston's mansion, he saw another man there and they were introduced to Lanie. Roman knew there was something different about Lanie and he had to have her. Roman won the bidding and took Lanie to his condo. Lanie had grown up in Master Winston's mansion and she was trained to please a man. Lanie knew Roman was her new master and she only wanted to please him. Roman hated how Lanie was scared and expected him to punish her for everything. Roman wondered what happened to Lanie in the mansion and set out to help her. Roman learned Lanie was waiting for her father to come and get her for the last fifteen years, so he set out to help her find her father. I liked this story, but i thought it had a lot of sadness to it. Lanie was so broken and she missed so much in her life. I like how Roman wanted to show her things and treat her well. Good one.
I found this book to be intriguing and suspenseful. It is well written, and it drew me in. But..... it left me with so very many questions. Alannah has been held prisoner for many, many years. What the author does not tell us is anything about her childhood in captivity, prior to being used as a prostitute presumably when she reached adult age. We get the idea that it was not a happy childhood, but she apparently did learn to read and write, and at the very least I wanted to know how that happened. We find out that whatever terrible life she did endure, once she is bought by Roman, her life will be very different. And we hurt with her when she discovers more about her childhood through Roman's help. But we are left hanging, but there is a book 2, which we are told at the end of this book. Book 1 is short, and I think it would have been far better and fairer to the reader to continue to story in book 1 rather than leave so much unwritten.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
The premise of this book was interesting but left me wanting. It is first and foremost, a short book, but also the first in a series. Alannah is sold to Master Winston when she is 5 and 15 years later, she is then sold again. The highest bidder ends up being a kind man named Roman who is independently wealthy after building his own empire from scratch his best friend. Roman is portrayed as a Dom, but in his interactions with Alannah/Lanie he acts as if she is the first Sub he has encountered. He questions her reactions even though he knows she came from a bad place. Other inconsistencies were there as well as repeats or sentences. I counted 3 different versions of: “only thoughts of Roman” within the same paragraph. This did get a bit old after a while. Overall, the book has promise, the story is a good opening to a series even with the cliffhanger ending. Some editing should be done to improve clarity and plot inconsistencies as well as character behaviors. I was given a free ARC from BookSirens for an honest and unbiased review.
This is a wonderdful start to a series of books. At the first chapter I thought I was going to be reading an era book just the way the author described the details of the mansion Lanie lived in.
Lanie such a sheltered timid character that is so innocent and has no clue about life and the outside world or even what happened to get her there. I love her and reading about her story and what she deals with emotionally is wonderful.
Roman oh man I love him, even though he is a dominant he is sweet and caring unlike the other dom in this book and I love that it really shows the differences in doms out there.
A great romantic supspense read with a lil naughty aspect to it.
Engrossing and well written by this wonderful author. I have never read this author but I was pleasantly suprized with her writing style and creativity. I will definitely be reading the rest in this series and more of her books later on.
