Actually, I didn't even finish this book. It is very poorly written - the writing is very choppy and full of contradictions. The characters are not very well defined, and I found I didn't really much care what happened to them. I finally just gave up.

It was ehh... Completely predicable

I wanted to like this series but it had some major issues. First, the dialogue is awful. It's awful cause the people who are having these conversations aren't well written. Jenny is supposed to be in her mid forties - which I is my age but she talks like she's a 60 year old woman. I don't know a single woman my age that would call her twenty something year old son a "scamp" like she does a few times. I actually don't know anyone who uses the word scamp. She also refers to homeless & transient people as tramps - no one in their 40s is calling them tramps. Tramps to us in our 40s has a completely different meaning - if your a tramp you are basically a slut. No one calls them tramps anymore. Heather us supposed to be one of her best friends & in her 30s. She reads like a girl if maybe her early 20s. Pretty much everything she does is on par with someone at least 10 years younger than her so Heather acts like she's her early twenties & Jenny acts like she's in her sixties but these woman are supposed to be fast friends. Molly reads a little immature but I could see her being like 30 or so but that was after the 1st book cause I'm the 1st book she was written as immature as Heather. It's like the writer doesn't know anyone in their mid forties & early thirties. Adam is like 2 different characters in the same body sometimes in the same conversation.

Then there are the plot holes - of which there are many but I'm not going to spoil them except that in the 1st book - Jenny has only been there for a couple months & just settling in when the murder occurs & her aunt is arrested but all the ladies are imploring her investigate like she did before. Umm... When?! I thought I had accidentally started reading a later book in the series but no, it was the 1st book & they talk about her doing it again when she hadn't investigated anything yet. It bothered me - a lot. There are others but this one bothered me the most cause I actually wasted like 39 minutes trying to see if I had missed something & there was another book. I will admit they became less glaring than in the 1st book but still there.

It's not a great series - the characters aren't that well written yet I read all 4 of the book in this set so it wasn't the worst I've read but I wouldn't call them good. Ehh is about as good as you get - maybe okay if I want to feel generous. I'm debating reading the next set it trying to cause I struggled a bit with wanting to just stop reading it but I want to see what happens with Adam.

Wonderful stories

Each book in this set was amazing. Kept you on your toes, trying to figure out who did each murder. Jenny was a wonderful self made private eye. All she did was ask questions and then thought about everything she heard, & was great at putting things together. Even Adam finally came around! The baker had more than recipes up her sleeve. such sweet & cozy mysteries!

Im torn...

I found this group of stories pretty entertaining, but I can't give it more than three stars if I don't really like the main characters. The sheriff said and did more awful, mean, spiteful things than he did good/kind things, and the mc girl kept coming back for more abuse and mistrust, despite her doing his job for him EVERY story, he never gave her the benefit of the doubt, all while claiming he wanted to see/date her. He arrested/took her to jail TWICE for Christ sake! And then wondered why she was upset... The characters didn't handle situations the way a logical thinking person would, and they never said of reacted to situations normally. It was entertaining, but weird. I would still recommend this book. Most people seem to really like it.

Book set series one through 4. Quick read and I enjoyed the series and all the characters. It was easy to keep track of everyone. Pelican Cove was a bridged Island unlike mine which we are not. We have to take a mailboat to get to and from the mainland. They sure do eat a lot in these books! It made me hungry. . .we don't have any restaurants or bars on my Island so I was a little jealous and was missing some of the options the characters had and I don't have. The sheriff could be a total pain most of the time in the series and I do hope he changes in the series 5 through 8!

I could barely finish this book. Didn't like Jenny and especially disliked Adam. The writing was choppy -seemed like it was written by a 12 year old.

A great cozy mystery series!

Strawberries and Strangers: A Cozy Murder Mystery (Pelican Cove Cozy Mystery Series Book 1)
A wonderful start to a new cozy series!

My favorite genre is cozy mysteries. I enjoy reading a well-written, lighthearted, clean, fun, and easy read. This book ticked all the boxes for me; so of course, it rates five stars in my book. Leena Clover is a gifted storyteller. My plan is to binge read this series.

The setting for this book is on a small island in Virginia. The cast of characters are quite entertaining. Their personalities and interactions are quite believable. I can relate each character with a person I have met in my life. I don’t agree with the way Jenny interacts with law enforcement, but I can honestly say I have met more than one person with her attitude. I hope in future books Jenny’s character will show a little more respect for law enforcement officers and police procedures. Again, that is only my personal preference and did not affect my enjoyment of this fictional story. The red herrings were effective in that I did not figure out who the murderer was prior to the reveal. That was quite fun for me. Adding a touch of romance here and there throughout the story is always a plus for me.

All-in-all it was an entertaining first story of a series. A new cozy mystery series that I look forward to reading.

Cupcakes and Celebrities: A Cozy Murder Mystery (Pelican Cove Cozy Mystery Series Book 2)

The setting for this book is on a beautiful small island in Virginia. The recurring cast of characters are quite entertaining. I enjoy their emerging personalities and interactions with each other. The group of Magnolia ladies are a hoot. There is no short supply of handsome men on the island either. There is a bit of an ongoing teaser in the series with a love triangle. Right now, it is still at a flirty stage. It will be interesting to see how it will play out in future stories.

With this entertaining whodunit mystery, there were plenty of red herrings to consider. I had it narrowed down to one of two people and one of them was the murderer. So, I don’t feel too bad about not solving it before the reveal. Maybe next time.

My favorite genre is cozy mysteries. I enjoy reading a well-written, lighthearted, clean, fun, and easy read. This book ticked all the boxes for me; so of course, it rates five stars in my book. Leena Clover is a gifted storyteller. I am looking forward to reading more of this cozy mystery series this week.

Berries and Birthdays: A Cozy Murder Mystery (Pelican Cove Cozy Mystery Series Book 3)

In addition to an intriguing murder mystery, I enjoy the developing friendships and romances of the recurring characters in this series. The island setting is beautiful, and I can see myself sitting on the beach relaxing to the sounds of the surf in my mind’s eye. I can also imagine myself strolling down main street into the neighborhood businesses ran by neighbors who care about their neighbors. Quite a close-knit community. It seems almost criminal to mar such a beautiful place with inappropriate conduct; might less murder. Who would stoop so low as to murder a man at his centennial birthday celebration? He was a wealthy, self-made man with a mysterious past. What could have been the motive? Envy, money, revenge, or something even more sinister?

In addition to the murder, there is much more to this story. Romance is in the air on the island and not restricted to the younger generation. There is not one, but two, romantic triangles that are in play on the island. It will be interesting to see how the romances develop in future stories.

My favorite genre is cozy mysteries; especially when there is a bit of added romance. This is a well-written, lighthearted, clean, fun, and easy read. Leena Clover is a gifted storyteller. I am binge reading through the series and so far it has been a fun ride. Woohoo. On to book four.

Sprinkles and Skeletons: A Cozy Murder Mystery (Pelican Cove Cozy Mystery Series Book 4) Kindle Edition

This story is part of an enjoyable cozy mystery series I have been binge reading. I appreciate the recurring cast of characters; the ones you love and even the ones who are not so loveable.

This entertaining story is more than just a run-of-the-mill whodunit, it is also an intriguing who-is-it. A skeleton is found in the back garden during the renovation of Jenny’s new home. What will this mean to Jenny and others in Pelican Cove?

This book is a clean, fun, and easy read. There is no graphic violence, vulgar language, or explicit sex. A good mystery story with a bit of romance.

Pelican Cove is a remote island town that boasts friendly people and a laid back way of life many dream about. When Jenny King's husband of 20 years decides he is finished with Jenny, she visits her Aunt Star in Pelican Cove. Jenny finds an irresistible attraction to the town where she visited as a child, and decides to stay. Her talents as a cook are welcomed at a sweet cafe on the boardwalk, and she settles in to island life.

This set is the beginning of the Pelican Cove cozy series. Jenny solves some unusual murders, just by asking questions (as she says.) The series is full of fun characters, good food, and some romances, but all written so that you wouldn't be embarrassed to share the books with anyone! (OK-no bad language. No graphic or even non-graphic sex. Just good writing and lots of fun!) This is a great way to start the series...such a bargain!

SERIES OF FIRST FOUR COZY BOOKS EQUALS GOOD READS AND PROMISES OF MORE TO READ

Books have been my close friends for years. Starting with the Bobsey Twins and Nancy Drew, I followed Cherry Ames from a student nurse through the entire series. The books are much more sophisticated in the world today. I really like the lead characters in Pelican Cove and they are finding their footing and becoming stronger. This isn't Pulitzer fiction, but I don't read for fame and fortune or famous book clubs. I read for relaxation, enjoyment, character development and education. Thank you for making free books available to readers who are limited to library reading or or book sales. BRAVO!

I have read every book in this series and own every one of them. I love this series! It is great! Jenny gets kicked out of her fancy home from her husband of over 20 years. He marries one of his young secretaries and insists they move into the house he bought. Jenny goes to her Aunt who lives in Pelican Cove. After allowing her a few days to feel sorry for herself, Jenny's Aunt tells her to go apply as a cook at the small cafe in town. Jenny's cooking is a huge hit. She also meets the Sheriff who is rather grumpy at times. They have a rough relationship because Jenny never stays out of his investigations. Love this cozy series!!!!

Enjoyable cozy mystery bundle

This bundle is the 1st four books of Pelican Cove Cozy Mysteries. Jenny's snooty lawyer husband traded her in for a newer model. With their son heading off to college, Jenny isn't sure what to do with herself, until her Aunt invites her to stay with her. Jenny finds a job at the local bistro and soon makes a name for herself with her cooking, baking, salads, all sorts of goodies. But then her Aunt is accused of murder. And bodies fall throughout the 4 books. Good plots. Enjoyable characters. Small New England town on an island. Food. Divorcee. Single mom. Love triangle with Jenny, town attorney and sheriff. Dog.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading the first four books in the Pelican Cove series. There was a lot of mystery in each book, making trying to guess who the killer was in each one. The only drawback, to me, was that there was too much seafood!! That may sound crazy to anyone who loves seafood, but since I don't happen to like any of it and reading about seafood dishes on just about every page got very tired after the first book!! I still want to finish the series, after I take a break and read something else first.

I just finished the 4 book Pelican Cove Mysteries + enjoyed all of the stories. The characters included various ages whom got together everyday at the Broadwalk Cafe.
Jenny the main character arrived to the island after a divorce from her husband + became the cook with many talents.
I could almost taste her creations.
She happens to stumble upon murders in each book + with the help of her friends, solves each.
Except for Adam the sheriff, that was ignoring, I liked all of the characters.
Glad, I read the 1st 4 books in the series.

Jenny's adventures: Divorce served her well!

Jenny's life was upset by her cheating husband! Decided to seek out her aunt in Pelican Cove. Little did she know she'd be on the forefront of murder. The police chief Adam wanted her to stay away! She decided not to listen to him, her adventures continued through the 4 books! A little different from the usual Cozy mysteries, you'll enjoy these books! I certainly did!

A Well Written and Intriguing Read

From the beginning, the characters are believable and engaging. As you turn the pages you become wrapped up in learning more about Pelican Cove. I read the boxed set and found every segment interesting, fun and the mysteries captivating. The characters are fleshed out and I found myself smiling at many of the twists and turns in their lives. All and all I can’t wait to continue reading this series.

Excellent series. Very lighthearted mix of romance and mystery. The killers are not obvious and the characters are among the most realistic I have read in a long time. Some times you actually want to give a few of them a smack just like in real life. WARNING! The description of the food in these books will leave you craving some of the same. Can't wait to start the next set.

I enjoyed the story line, but the stilted conversations and simple text were a bit annoying. The author seems to have an aversion to the use of contractions. " I am" doing such and such, "You will" do whatever it is...why not use I'm and You'll? I'll not read on in the series and I read all 4 books only because I had purchased the package.

silliness

I found it hard to stomach a 44 year old woman who stomped her feet, put her hands on her hips , stormed out of rooms and yelled at people when she didn’t get her own way, would be the heroine of these books. Yet it was so. And people loved her! Outlandish silliness. Truly, don’t waste your time.

Sprinkles and Skeletons

This is the fourth book I have read in this series by Leena Clover. This is the continuing story of Jenny King, cooking and solving mysteries in Pelican Cove. I was definitely surprised by the ending of this book. I feel like these mysteries are a little formulaic, but I still enjoy them. I recommend this series of books.

Relaxing but interesting.

You think you have it all figured out. Then things shift enough you aren't sure. Then new information appears, who is lying, who isn't as they seem? You are never sure till the end. I like the way Leena Clover thinks!

The sentences were short and choppy. The dialogue was very dry. I think I could have done a better job. I couldn't even finish the first book and I'll read almost anything!
