Hi Romance Fans,

My historical romances are full of heat, humor, and quirky characters. I’ve always loved history, which was my college major. Things of the past fascinate me. Not those boring history classes in high school, but the history of people. How they lived their lives, what they ate, what they wore, the challenges they faced, what they worried about.

I have recently delved into Historical Cozy Mysteries. My very first one, For the Love of the Baron, a Historical Romantic Suspense novella, spurred me to try a full length, non-romance focused cozy mystery. A Study in Murder released last year from Crooked Lane Publishing, and the reviews have been excellent. The second book, The Sign of Death, released this year and the next book, The Mystery of Albert E. Finch will release in January of 2022.

I've also been busy keeping up with my Regency/Victorian romances. Check out my latest series, The Rose Room Rogues. Four brothers who own a gambling club and find themselves caught in the net of love.

Watch for my new Highlander series, The Sutherlands of Dornoch. The first book in that series, To Deceive a Highlander, will release March 30th.

Take a look around my website and check out some of the books I write, and their lovely covers. www.calliehutton.com

When I remember the ending of the previous book, For The Love Of The Duke, it looks like Prudence had a mind of own and decided she did not want a Peer for herself and was not ready to settle too soon.
So the story takes place six years after the last one, with a full growing up Prudence who knows now what she wants from life, no more groom hunt on the marriage mart instead she want to be recognized as an artist, why she contacted an art gallery which will display her painting.
What she didn’t expected was to be rebuffed by one of the gallery owner because of her origines.
Ashton Reeves holds a grudge against the nobility, being the illegitimate son of an Earl. Why he did not take well the news about the new artist he will sponsor with his associate.
I loved to see them interacting, evolving from dislike and disdain to attraction and admiration.
They have a sweet romance, of course tarnished by Ash unable to accept he can deserve Prudence’s love. Even if she is determined to prove him he is wrong, certain stubbornness can be wrong and lead to choose a poor path.
Still, I do love Lord Pomeroy’s interference and how his family handles proposals of marriage.
A lovely novella, which concludes perfectly this series.

Beginning was slow

But I loved the ending. It totally made me forget the boring part. There was a child and a great surprise in store too. Well a great surprise to me regarding his Father and I just loved the Pomeroy family. It was very sweet.

A short story between a talented painter and a gallery owner. The characters, as always, are likable; there's little steam, but there's a giant tension most of the time that the MCs are together ❤️‍🔥 For the sake of a happy ending, some family intrigue was resolved too quickly...but ok!

Ash has only contempt for Pru when they first meet but he can’t deny she is beautiful. Pru is also attracted to Ash. The more the pair meet each other the more the attraction grows but Ash truly believes he’s not good enough no matter how much the Pomeroy family welcomes him. I’ve loved all of the series the Pomeroys have been delightful. Pru is a dedicated painter & more than willing to dedicate her life to it, Ash is a successful businessman, neither want to marry but neither can deny their feelings for each other. The road to their HEA isn’t smooth but it's entertaining & made for a captivating read. I particularly loved the epilogue & hope if Michael has his story then there will be an update?
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

For the Love of the Gentleman starts 6 years after the conclusion of the previous book and Prudence is the only unwed female in the family, which I found to be in keeping with her character as she was the shyest of the family. She has attended a few London seasons and although she has met many gentleman over that time, none have made her feel that he is the man she was to spend her life with. Instead she would rather be a doting aunt and persue her love of art and arrange to have her paintings show cased in an art show. I love painting, so Prudence was a character after my own heart and really enjoyed reading about her.

In fact, I loved Prudence and Ashton and enjoyed reading about both of them. As the bastard son of the Earl of Stanhope and believing his mother to have been tosse aside, Ashton has a deep-seated grudge against members of the ton. He sees them as frivilous and shallow and so when Prudence comes around about her art show, he is quite antagonistic toward her. Prudence refeuses to let him ruin this for her though, she's going to love her dream.

Prudence was great, wasn't about to put up with his nonsense. She has been my favorite heroine from the series. I loved Ashton too, and loved him more because he was a bit flawed. He let his anger and his resentment to the nature of his birth get in his way and hold him back. I was so annoyed with him when he nearly threw everything away due to his feelings of inferiority, but he brought it back and was back in my good books.

For the Love of the Gentleman is the sixth book in Callie Hutton's The Noble Hearts Series and has been my favorite from the series. I recommend this book, it's sweet and very quick to read.

After failing to find a single man who even remotely interests her in eight seasons, Lady Prudence Sterling has decided to leave society. Instead she will dote on her nieces and nephews and focus on her art, starting with a show at the famed Reeves & Goddard Art Gallery.

As the illegitimate son of an earl and unaccepted by the ton, Ashton Reeves has no use for society ladies and believes them all to be empty-headed and shallow. In fact, Ash doesn't even really want to meet his new artist. He can see by her paintings that she has talent, but he's convinced art must simply be a passing fancy for her, soon to be abandoned in favor of marriage.

Prudence refuses to let one surly man derail her plans or keep her from being recognized as an artist. Ash raises his disdain as a shield against the attraction he feels for Prudence almost from the start. She is the first woman to catch his eye in any serious way and he knows she's entirely too far above him to make any future between them possible. Fortunately, Prudence has other ideas.

Prudence was one of the best and most likable heroines I've read in some time and I found Ash to be a lovely flawed hero; this story is predictable and typical, but it has all the elements I look for in a historical romance and the charming characters pushed it to five stars for me. I tore through this book and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I loved everything about this story. It has all the issues of the ton and society’s restrictions. A Lady going against the norm and a gentleman born on the wrong side of the blanket, who’s a self made man. A lovely romance between two people that deserve every happiness life has to offer.
Lady Prudence Sterling has decided she was done with society parties and the ton. She only wants to work on her artwork. She is firmly on the shelf and has not want to marry.
Mr. Ashton Reese a bastard, raised by his artist mother. Grew up with a chip on his shoulder and a hatred for the members of the ton. He knew even if he had more then some members of the ton he would never be excepted in their circle.
Ashton meets Lady Prudence when his partner gives her the art show she well deserves. With Ashton’s dislike of the ton he’s sure she will be a leaf in the wind and disappear from the art world when she marries.
Little does Ashton know Prudence is a strong woman and a dedicated artist, not a normal woman of the ton. She gives him a run for his money. The more they learn of each other the more they become friends. When their romance blooms Prudence starts to see a possible future for them if Ashton can get past his self imposed status and feeling of not being good enough for Prudence. He may just live to regret his decision.

For the Love of the Gentleman is book six in The Noble Hearts Series by Callie Hutton. I adore Ms. Hutton’s books and I always enjoy reading them. I liked this book, but I felt it fell short of her past writings. I kept waiting for “the hook” in the story, but it never came. That said, I did enjoy Lady Prudence. I felt she was real and likable. I especially enjoyed the fact that she is a talented artist.
I have always been drawn to “enemy to lover” tropes. I liked the tension between Prudence and Ashton. Even though this one fell a bit short for me, Hutton is still one of the best romance writers out there.

I really enjoyed reading about Lady Prudence taking her future into her own hands. She decided no more societal husband hunting for her. She is after her passion of being an artist. When she is contracted by an art gallery to display her work, she meets Mr. Ashton Reeves one of the owners. Ashton has a chip on his shoulder. He despises anyone of peerage. I like the antagonistic banter between Pru and Ashton. It shows wit and humor. They take as good as they give. As Ashton gets to know Pru his prejudices are knocked down one by one and he can't fight the attraction between Pru and himself. Pru does not fight the attraction at all she welcomes it. Ashton is his own worst enemy and keeps messing up with Pru due to his belief he is not worthy of her. Then there is the subplot of Ashton's father. That was quite surprising. What really got me was when Ashton's mother sees his father after so many years and the results. An entertaining read and I do recommend it, I received an Advanced Readers Copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

It was okay

I think one of the reasons I have loved this series is the very realistic but humorous way the author portrays the characters and situations.
After reading the other stories (In order. I love the connection and interchange and progress between the stories. I did think this particular story was not as steamy as the prior books. I didn’t feel the build up in the relationship between the h and h. They just kinda fell into each other... still a good story and left room for more stories. As a side note, I thought it was clever to have references throughout the series to another series (equally liked) by this author ( Rose Brothers)
Anyway, 4 stars: good story BUT l wish story had introduced and focused on Ash’s family sooner and more interaction and build up of the relationship between the H&H.

For The Love of the Gentleman is another delightful addition to The Noble Hearts series. Lady Prudence is a very talented artist and has decided to leave the social whirl and pursue her art. She has been offered a show at Goddard and Reeves Gallery. To say that Ash Reeves dislikes Society is an understatement. While he admits Prudence is talented, he is positive she is not serious about her art. Tension is thick from the moment they meet. Ash is temperamental, distrustful, and arrogant. While Pru is confident and talented, she is confused by Ash’s attitude. They don’t have to like each other; they don’t have to fall in love; they just have to get along until her show is over. Can they? Will they? It was fun to watch the interaction between Ash and Pru. I love Lord Pomeroy’s gentle encouragement (meddling). Will it help bring them together? Will there be a family meeting at the end of this one? Great characters and an entertaining story filled with humor, discovery, and surprises make this a wonderful conclusion to the series.

For the love of a gentleman is book 6 in the Noble Hearts series.

Lady Prudence Sterling is finally given up on all the balls and events the ton had to offer after 8 years and not finding anyone of interest she only wishes to paint

Enter Mr Ash Reeves one of the owners of the art gallery she wishes to show her paintings. Mr Reeves a bastard wants nothing to do with Lady Sterling until he sees her paintings and the beautiful woman, the tension between these two comes across in the reading

This was an absolute fun read, the sort of books Ms Hutton writes, that leaves you feeling very good, a smile on your face and not where is the rest of the book.

The secondary characters were all involved with light heartiness, would love to read what happens to Ash’s father and mother.

Well done Ms Hutton

Highly recommend all in this series

Stand alone

I bought this book in appreciation of the authors work

Love to read these ones that are back in the day when things were a bit different and women that had a choice also make for interesting entertainment. Lady Prudence is one such lady whom she thinks one thing but life will show and tell her another. What caught my attention with this character though is she was a artist that was going to pursue it. Whom also sharpens this story is Ashton the other half owner of the gallery whom is showcasing her work. The fireworks and flames that ensue from this one kept me fixed to it from beginning to end.

This book had me captivated from the first page. Lady Prudence Sterling knows what she wants and she goes after it, painting that is. What she doesn't expect is to meet the only man ever that has ignited her passion. The only problem is he doesn't like dealing with the haut ton being the bastard son of an Earl so he doesn't hold Pru in a high regard in the beginning. This is one book you will not want to miss. I received a complimentary copy of this book. I voluntarily reviewed it and the comments are my own.

An enchanting romance with many scenes that make you sigh with delight. A Lady of the Ton has given up on that society and has turned her devotion to her painting. She has such amazing talent she is offered a show at one of London's art galleries. Lady Prudence meets Mr. Reeves, a partner in the art gallery, who appears to take an instant dislike of her.

I enjoyed this delightful novella because of it's well developed characters, it's well developed story line and the author's writing skills.

He's a commoner and she's a lady.

Lady Prudence is a talented artist and she has contracted with a prestigious art gallery to show her work. Ashton Reeves, half owner of the gallery is the bastard son of an earl. There's fireworks as soon as they meet. But Ash does not feel he's good enough to marry her. Pru, on the other hand, is a little more sure that he is. This story is one of those inevitable tales that make you believe in love triumphing over the odds.

1.5 stars

1. I got confused with Ash's mother. In chapter 2, it was alluded that his mother belonged to the lower class, however, in chapter 3, it was narrated that his mother was a baron's daughter.

If that was the case, she should had consented to marry a man the baron wished her to accept to avoid scandal. As part of the ton, I'm pretty sure she knew the repercussions. If she was a member of the lower class, I would understand if she remained unwed as she has no reputation to uphold.

What was his mother's point for disobeying her father? It's not as if the Earl of Stanhope, Ash's biological father, was going to marry her.

2. It was said that Ash kept on goading Pru so that he could prove that Pru was just a society princess like the other else. However, in my opinion, he was like a smitten puppy who desperately wants a girl's attention but the only way to get it is by teasing her mercilessly. For this reason, I got athe feeling that I was reading a contemporary teenage romance that was forced to make it a Regency historical romance. Seriously, I never felt that Pru was six-and-twenty and Ash in his early thirties. To be honest, I find them immature, especially Ash.

3. There were two things that didn't add up.
a. If Ash disdained the beau monde, why did he divulge his background to an aristocrat (Lord Pomeroy)? You won't share anything personal to a person you dislike.

b. Ash despised the haute ton but his mother was also part of the upper class so he hated his mother, too? Technically speaking, he was somehow part of the higher echelon of the society because of his parents' background. Even if he was born at the wrong side of the bed. So does that mean that he detested himself as well?

4. It was idiotic of Pru to be unnerved that Ash was able to tell her and Phoebe, her twin sister, apart. It was too simple. Phoebe was very pregnant and she was not. That alone was already a given.

How did I know that Phoebe was evidently enceinte? Elementary. In chapter 8, it was recounted that "Phoebe, Prudence’s twin sister, jiggled her youngest, Lady Genevieve, on her lap. What was left of her lap, that was, since she was well into another pregnancy." The phrase, "what was left on her lap," was already an assumed fact that Phoebe had a protruding belly. Common sense. Unless Prudence also had a bulging tummy then that's the time she should be surprised that Ash was able to tell the difference.

5. What was Pru's intention for waiting on the landau while Ash walked around the vehicle and helped her down but she ignored his arm and hurried up the steps? Playing hard to get but easy to get in truth?

6. Prudence didn't do her name justice. She became a shameless wanton and fornicated with a man who was neither her husband nor bethroted nor with a promise of marriage.

7. It was related in chapter 4 that Ash probably was in his early thirties, so if his mother was just five-and-forty, did it mean that Stanhope had seduced a young girl-in-the-schoolroom?

8. Lastly, I find it uncool that Stanhope's wife died a few months after Ash and Pru got married, paving a second chance for Ash's parents. Not that I don't want them to have a second chance, the timing was just perfect.

All in all, I have a feeling that this wasn't really Callie Hutton's work in the slightest degree. Another giveaway was the intercourse scene. It was incomplete. Callie Hutton's intimate scenarios were very elaborated---from kissing, to foreplay, to post-copulation. I think this was written by a young adult who is still need more improvement and work out the things I mentioned. I could sense that this ghost writer was the one who wrote For the Love of the Lady as well. To be fair, this writer is talented and has a future. Perhaps s/he should pen his/her own book under his/her personal name.

The last in the series. Snobby art dealers who, think the lady artist looks down upon his birth on the wrong side of the sheet. A lot of hurt feelings and pride and mistaken judgments.
