I stumbled upon this little book (26 or so pages) in my library. I was looking for a short easy-read for my commute.
Anointed to overtake hinges on Genesis 38:27-30 which is a passage on the birth of Perez and Zerah, sons of Judah. Zerah and Perez were twins. During birth, Zerah put out his hand and the midwives thought he would be born first, but to their surprise Perez 'broke out' from behind and came out first and lived to continue the lineage of Jesus! Well, it's amazing how the lineage is littered with the unexpected.
Otabil aims to encourage those who were not privileged to have an early start or early rise in life to not give up but to be persistent and to have a patient spirit (Ecclesiastes 7:8-10). He explains that starting first does not always mean you will be first in life, and neither does lagging behind always mean you will stay there. One who is behind can break through and get ahead, and one who is ahead can keep ahead.
There will always be 'Zerahs' in our paths; those who start fast, move quickly, shine early and outrun us. This should not discourage us because the race is not given to the swift, and the end of a matter is better than the beginning.
It's a beautiful book, I truly enjoyed it!
