Asta and Yuno grew up together, abandoned at the same church. They both determined to become Magic Knights... Yuno's abilities soon grew to genius levels of power and control while Asta didn't show even a spark of magic and made up for it by training hard physically. It became apparent to both when they received their grimores, Yuno a coveted 4-leaf clover and Asta an unheard of black 5-leaf clover, that they were each other's biggest competition when it came to achieving their goals of becoming the next sorcerer emperor.
In this volume of Black Clover Yuno and Asta witness a horrible evil that plagues the elves and humans. Things aren’t as they seem and many truths and histories are revealed. I was shocked about one to do with my favorite minor character, Nero! The elves were pitted against a cunning much more devious than mere humans.
I loved seeing Yuno, Yami and Nozel in action. That’s one of the things I love about Black Clover... the characters in all their unique glory keep on coming. We get to see their unique skills and magics. Of course Asta has his moment and I love who he chews out for not trying hard enough.
Really the villain they’re up against, while not new, is a totally creative take on an old favorite. I loved the way the art showed this character and how they interacted with the different magic knights. They’re magic is quite nasty too and won’t be easily overcome.
I just love how this elf arc is turning out. It was well worth following them to the end. Black Clover is a fun battle manga with tons of characters, lots of heart and fierce battles.

After a while of being away from the world of Tabata’s ‘Black Clover’, it was so easy to fall back in. Black Clover follows Asta, a magicless boy born into a world where magic is everything, and Yuno, a boy blessed with mana. Both boys are orphans, brought the same night to the church of Hage village, a peasant town on the outskirts of the Clover kingdom.
This entire series is a journey through hardship and triumph, magic and kinship. This is a comfort series to me, as I adored the anime, and adore the manga as well. Volume 21 was no different of an experience, and thus earns its 5 stars too.

While the fights were interesting, I'm not pleased with the revelation that the Devil is responsible for all of this. It's too convenient that now readers can simply dismiss the elves' actions because they weren't in control. Whatever, the fights were good and I guess that's all that matters.

I really like the art style and setting of Black Clover. A medieval setting with wizards and fantasy races, swords, wands, brooms stuff like that. Then there are some cool character designs, some worse and once in a while, Tabata draws a demon. And this is the pinnacle of his art. It is a twisted, demonic and vile creature and I love it. It really does fit nicely into the whole aesthetic.
The story goes with... "our main bad guys are not bad guys and it was the bad demon's fault all the time" therefore neglecting and fucking everything up. I mean, stakes and everything is gone. And even though I suspected something like this would happen, it is not great to read about it. If there would be stakes before and someone we know and care would be hurt or died, then the despair would be great and we would enjoy the tragedy of the betrayal much more. Now it really is empty.
The flashback in here is good. It is rushed and I would appreciate everything to be slower, but it's kinda cool. The magical bird, who is actually a girl is cool and I do not mind it. The statue of the Wizard King is cool, little bit convenient but OK. What worries me is the fact that people crowned this little dude who saved them from the demon. But he did not rule. He just died. So naturally, the second Wizard King must have been actually the first one to do some ruling.
I am torn between two and three stars. I enjoy the series overall, even though it has mistakes, but I can't give this three starts. Yet maybe for the art I should.

l'imperatore magico sembra un personaggio carismatico e molto interessante, molto meglio di Julius.
Per tutto il resto non si capisce nulla, tolta la questione del demone di Asta che qua viene a malapena accennata, l'altro demone è un problema enorme che non torna.
Innanzitutto questo che è il cattivone di turno se ne esce dal nulla, da un personaggio che si è visto solo in 3 vignette, il flashback dovrebbe essere un enorme spiegone che ci mostra una volta per tutte cosa è successo in passato incece è tutto affrettato e rente tutto confuso, bisogna aspettare la versione della storia di Licht per capire meglio cosa è successo.
Cioè questo demone sia nel presente che nel passato esce fuori dal nulla, e in poche ore causa un genocidio di una razza potentissima e spiegatemi perchè Licht si trasforma in quel kaiju! okay che usa una magia proibita, ma c'è differenza dal diventare un uccello e un mostro che rischia di distruggere la terre.

So much has transpired in this volume that I don't know what to rave about first! It was action packed that kept me on the edge of my seat. All the credit goes to the Devil and his well crafted evil schemes. I enjoyed it thoroughly. 😈

Yami and a possessed Charlotte battle on, only to discover that the true villain of the piece is someone far more sinister that even Asta and Yuno don't stand a chance against. Some five hundred year old back-up is in order.
I do enjoy a good 'It was actually me being evil this whole time' plot, especially if it's well-explained, which this one is. It puts a lot of the sometimes shaky past stuff into much better perspective.

3.8 stars to be precise. I like the developments and reveals, he’s dabbling in a bit of defying expectations. Unfortunately, Yuno is still a fraud, and I am not hyped when he goes ‘eureka!’ and gets a power up immediately after Asta.

There was nothing going on for a long time, since it was once again nobodies fighting nobodies in battles that had no impact on the plot and were always ending with willpower and the power of friendship. This changed around this time, because the true mastermind behind the conflict appeared.
So far the situation was grey. The humans were fighting the elves and neither side was outright evil. It was a war caused seemingly by a few bad apples on both sides. But this was no longer the case when a devil appeared and began laughing about how everything was his plan. So much for the grey conflict; it was now just a generic one dimensional ugly bad guy who was laughing like an idiot and even outright called everyone a fool for falling for it, just to make it even easier for the audience to hate him.
And it didn’t even stop there. The devil wasn’t simply manipulating their desires and negative emotions. On top of that he was also brainwashing them into becoming mindless puppets. It’s one thing to trick people into doing your bidding and a whole other to take away their free will. The former takes effort and is smart, the latter is lazy and contrived. And thus once again, the king of shonen anime proved how well written it is by taking a grey conflict and simplifying it to a one dimensional evil bad guy who doesn’t have to use any tactics for fooling his enemies, because he can just brainwash them, versus a bunch of one dimensional shonen good guys who are constantly yelling about friendship and juvenile ideals.
And before any of you say that Black Clover was always a juvenile show for kids and not a grey seinen, I will remind you how the fans were calling this arc a masterpiece for having a grey conflict where the bad guys are not that bad and the good guys are not that good. It’s mature and so much better than gay foot. And as soon as the devil appears they completely forget everything they were hyping for months and went back into being hyped about broken power levels and one dimensional teenagers yelling about their emotions like madmen.

Say what you want about Black Clover, but this is quintessential shounen at it's finest.
With this volume we get the reveal that an actual Devil has been behind everything. He manipulated the human royalty into killing all of the elves 500 years ago. He was the one who reanimated all of the elves in the present. He was the one who used Patry to get himself a body again. He literally did everything.
Essentially, he's a bad bad guy.
This reveal was actually quite good, because I think we all knew that there was more to what happened 500 years ago then meets the eye. It always seemed way to cut and dry from the beginning. However, this Devil is not he Devil living in Asta's grimoire, so I have many questions regarding that.
Also, the fight scenes in this volume are superb. While I will happily admit that Asta is essentially the wizard version of Naruto at this point, complete with Talk no Jutsu and all, Tabata's art style is so great for fight scenes, that you can kind of ignore it. Even though there is a lot of black going on throughout this volume, it never felt muddied, and the Devil's spells are ominous as all hell. This is going to be a tough fight for Asta and Yuno, but I am sure they will get through it in typical shounen manga protagonist fashion. By having random power ups mid fight thanks to the power of friendship, and sheer determination.
And, yes, it is cliche as all hell, but it is still entertaining, and that is what I am here for.

The whole Devil thing is definitely interesting and it was actually what made Asta strong and interesting as well. It is not a huge plot twist as I was expecting something like this but the way the author did it is still good. The battle against him was also better than the previous battles we've seen. Hace mucho que no leia un tomo de esta serie y fue bastante entretenido volver a esta historia. Seguimos con un arco que no pensé que le quedase mucho pero que pareciera que va a seguir por un tiempo mas. No me molesta, estoy disfrutandolo bastante, pero me da miedo por el futuro cuando el arco acabe. Pero bueno, hablando de este tomo en particular, me gusto bastante el giro que le dieron. Me parece que abre grandes posibilidades para conflictos a futuro. Asta tuvo un muy buen momento, cosa que no crei que fuera a decir. Venia estando un poco desdibujado en este arco, pero creo que está ganando un poco de terreno en este tomo. Lo único que realmente mantiene este tomo de ser 5 estrellas es que me hizo dar cuenta que no habia entendido nada del plan de los elfos y quien es quien entre ellos. Quizas deberia releer tomos anteriores para tener ver si puedo entenderlo mejor, pero por ahora eso en un defecto que me sacó un poco de la historia. Igualmente fue un tomo muy bueno y ojalá sigan así los siguientes.

- On a vu a peine du combat de noëlle jack vs fana en plus le combat aurait pu être hyper bien dommage qu'on la pas vu.
- la on passe au gros morceau on a appris que l'elfe ronne enfaite n'était pas lui mais un démon et ce démon c'est lui qui a manipuler les elfes et les a berné.
- ducoup on a eu le droit à plein de combat contre le démon qui était incroyable avec asta et yuno et patry, le démon a transformer patry en elfe noir mais nozel et arriver et a réussi à l'arrêté et asta a remie patry sur le bon chemin.
- on a eu aussi un combat contre le démon de light yami et charla qui et Charlotte.
- et ducoup on a appris que Nero était une humaine mais c'est transformer en oiseaux prc elle a utilisé un sort interdit. Pour enfermé le démon. Et c'était la servante du premier empereur mages. Ducoup on a eu un flashback de ce qui c'est vraiment passer.

Side characters are fighting for their lives and it looks cool but it's ultimately unnecessary because the main characters are headed straight for actual plot. And then the plot takes a sudden turn because there was a super secret bad guy pulling all the strings so this whole war was practically pointless!
Things go from bad to worse and from worse to a bit better, then back down to worse, and time for another WTF twist because literary whiplash seems to be theme of this volume.
Allow me to quote Asta word for word to concisely explain what everyone is feeling by the end of this volume: "What the heck is going on?!!"
Honestly, the plot of this series is speeding along so fast with so many twists and turns while the bulk of the volumes are all on drawn out, unimportant fights that the overall impact of the plot is almost lost.
Things go from bad to worse and from worse to a bit better, then back down to worse, and time for another WTF twist because literary whiplash seems to be theme of this volume.

Ok so Finral keeps getting screwed over and I’m convinced the writers hate him. Like he wakes up and is forced to do a magic bird’s bidding, take the bird to the demon bones, awaken the first wizard king, find out the bird is actually a girl, and be dropped in the middle of nowhere.
However, it was nice to learn some wizard king backstory. Can’t believe Asta’s grimoire is actually Licht’s… technically… right? And the devil awakening after that one elf did some betrayal? Sick. And apparently Asta’s devil isn’t the same devil as the one he’s fighting, so there’s two demons.
Worried about Yami though. Is his arm going to pull a Dunban from Xenoblade and just be completely unusable? If so, he’ll have to pull some special magic moves to recover from that… I also miss Charlotte. Yami x Charlotte man.

The Elf Reincarnation Arc reaches its climax, with the reveal that the Elves were being deceived by a Devil this whole time. Naruto parallels continue, as the first Wizard King is awakened to help defend the kingdom, similar to the Orochimaru stuff in the climax of Part 1 of that ninja series. The demon guy (who isn't named yet?) has Word Soul Magic, which means he can just say shit and it comes true, with some as-of-yet-revealed limits, which seems nearly "broken," and makes me assume future "boss" enemies must necessarily have similar reality-warping abilities.
Meanwhile, it turns out Asta's bird Nero is a flat-chested e-girl, so that's something.
Also, I guess Yuno is just keeping his Elf power? I'll stay tuned to find out, but damn. This kid is a fuckin' cheater.
