Manga creator ONE first created One-Punch Man as a web comic, where it quickly went viral, garnering over 10,000,000 hits! Along with One-Punch Man, ONE also writes and draws another series called Mob Psycho 100.
Well well well, this tongue-in-cheek quasi-serious look the nature of super heroism gets somewhat real in this volume that focuses on the heroes fightback and first assault on the Monster Association. What makes an S level hero? Well the creators do a great job albeit the plotting much more so than the art, on showing just how dangerous and lethal the top echelon of super heroes are! A tidy 7.5 out of 12 firm Three Star read. 2024 read

EN I absolutely love "One Punch Man" and genuinely think it's one of the most underrated manga out there.
Yusuke Murata's artwork is exceptional—sharp, dynamic, and far superior to that of many popular series.
The creative synergy between the two authors is phenomenal, resulting in a story packed with depth and humor. The series also boasts an incredible cast of charismatic characters, each adding their own unique flair.
It's one of the rare series I dive into immediately whenever a new volume is released.
If you're a fan of "Dragon Ball", there's no reason you wouldn't love this masterpiece!
I'm loving the conspiracy build-up, but what really steals the show in the volume are all the S-Level heroes mixing it up with the lows. So cute!
And it's just a city completely overrun with monsters! A trap before the Monster Association!
So silly, these storylines, but damn if they aren't funny as hell, too. I can't tell what I like more from this... the humor or the artwork. The art is SO serious for EVERY character except for Saitama. And Saitama is so FAR out of everyone's measurable scale that it's absurd. Hence the art choice. :)
It's all the S-Ranked heroes kicking the biggest, baddest monsters from here on out. It's a slaughter-fest.
Flashy-Flash gets some time, as does Atomic Samurai and kids, but we all know the best battles are to come. And no, I'm not referring to Puri-Puri-Prisoner. *shiver* Tho, he is good for a laugh.
Deep underground labyrinth, demon and dragon-level monsters, and that weird sinking sensation that senseless Saitama might blunder his way to the Big Boss on complete accident. I can feel it.
It's still pretty much a build-up volume, but for the sake of the good sense of humor, the story is still going strong. For example, it's pretty humorous to see the Level-S superheroes arguing among themselves like kids.
On Volume 20 now in the series and it is still good. Features terrific fighting action art, hilarious monsters (e.g., Showerhead Man, Green Onion Man) and heroes (e.g., Smile Man, Tubby Man), but also more character development, and a much longer plot line. The pace has slowed way down; the load of violent action is made lighter by sudden story twists and hilarious side scenes. And overall the work continues to raise philosophical questions including what it means to be heroic, and what it means to be human.
For example, a character who hates heroes and is constantly fighting against them (because he was bullied by some kids playing heroes when he was a child), ends up befriending a boy who he sees being bullied, and fighting monsters to save him.
For example, when human society is threatened by monsters, some of the humans start campaigning in support of a takeover by the monsters, in the hope that they alone will benefit from a monster-controlled society.
The endemic factionalism continues within the Hero Association, but lots of heroics and funny misunderstandings as well.
Oh no! One Punch Man is missing!!! This volume is just the beginning of the actual war and assault of the Hero Association upon the Monsters. But at this point, even if the fights look epic, we are still at the cannon fodder level on both sides. Just 4.5 stars.
After some relatively normal chapters (I'm talking about the martial arts tournament arc), One Punch Man is finally back on track as the attack on the monster association is underway. ONE has managed to keep his readers' attention with Saitama being made scarce.
It is good that these class B and some other non-S class heroes are being given their time to shine. They are not as formidable as the class S ones, but certainly pack a punch and are never just pushovers.
More the calm before the storm. No sign of Saitama, King getting a crew/the new blizzard squad. Amai mask having the strongest presence. This was a demonstration of the A and B heroes, with some strange powers. It was interesting, but as things go, someone more powerful needs to step up. I laughed when the monster threatened Tornado's sister. TSTL. It was a fun volume. I felt sorry for the guy with the eye.

The Zombie guy is so cool. Sad that Saitama wasn’t a part of this one, but it was cool to see the creativity involved with some of the other heroes and what they can do 👍👍

This volume ends better than it starts, but it's only getting 3 stars because it takes a very long time to actually do anything. We get more build up to a giant battle where the heroes are supposed to be taking the fight to the monsters in their lair. That would have been fine, but we spend too much time at the Hero Association building with bickering and drama before anyone actually sets out. When they do decide to hit the road and the confrontation begins it hits it's stride and it's the OPM that I wanted.
King is quickly becoming one of my favorite characters both for the humor and tension he can bring. Blizzard and Tornado both show up in their tried and true form, which isn't to say it's boring to see either of them, but their is some predictability to what their story parts will be. -Surprisingly little Saitama in this volume fwiw.
Not the worst entry in the series, but plot wise it's not doing much and I was frustrated by that.
One of the most action-packed volumes in the series and it features some of the fastest heroes alive. This is a story arc that is entirely dedicated to epic scale action sequences with stunning artwork. The chaos that follows this confrontation is incredible and unbelievable.
The volume ends with a prologue to the next upcoming battle: kid versus bird. A battle that is sure to necessitate incredible perseverance--and gadgets.
The Heroes finally make an assault on City Z, so there's a lot of fight scenes. Saitama isn't in this volume, as it focuses mainly on the B & C-class heroes acting as support. There isn't much plot of characters, but there's a plethora of different heroes using their gimmicks to fight monsters and it's varied enough to not be dull. The art is good, two, with several impressive double page spreads.
So the two person who tried to recruit Sonic is now attacking Flashy Flash. Hmmmm. I don't like those two at all. So airheaded. They are monster but still seem equal to Flashy Flash. They aren't even as handsome. (roll eyes)
Woah.... Flashy Flash is so flashyly strong and handsome!!! He is cool, too!!!
But I'm looking for Saitama. Where is he though.... Don't tell me he got lost!! LOL. He might face Orochi which is great.
What an intense fight! Flashy isn't just Flashy for name! He is real!!! (gasp)
LOLL WHAT A BURN CONVO: Demon: Your Goal was to damage my weapon all along!! Flashy: Too Slow. What is the point of all the speed if your brain can't keep up. LLOOOOLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OOOOMMMMMMMGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!! FLASHY DEFEATED THEM!! WHAT THE HECK. HE IS SOO COOOLLL. And so handsome. But I'm still team Saitama no matter what!
No Saitama at all. And no Garo. This volume holds its own very well. TheA big fight has started, and we get to see lots of new heroes in action. The art is really nice to look at here as well.
Just like Monster Association, Hero Association has no sync when it comes to battle. Such a shame! They could've accomplished great feats with proper teamwork. 🤦
Kind of a stop-gap issue that both begins and forewarns the main event. The battle against the Monster Association is underway, but so far the heroes are still winning, with only the appearance of Rhino Wrestler throwing a spanner in the works.
Typical that as soon as I write a review claiming that Garo is now the central character, he completely vanishes for an entire Volume. Saitama too, which means this occupies that weird spot in OPM chapters wherein the focal characters are spread throughout the Hero Association. It's not as unengaging as before, mostly because by now enough characters have baggage as to go into these fights with stories primed and loaded. The Saitama group are the best example of this - especially Genos, whose adoration of Saitama has made the uncomfortable journey from overblown and comic, to finally becoming a detriment to his character. The 'advice' he's been given throws all his priorities out of whack, causing him to become reckless and standoffish. Even Fubuki, who's usually caught up in her own inferiority complex, can see it.
The rest of the Hero Association is...okay. There are some goofy powers on display which are a delight - Captain Mizuki is probably the highlight, with her absurdly earnest track-and-field attitude (side note: had some serious Body Improvement Club flashbacks when Superalloy Darkshine compliments her muscles). I think what lets these sections down compared to the others is that, even at this late stage, the HA is relatively unaffected by Saitama. Which is weird, considering the manga exists because of him, yet over half the cast have almost no experience of him. Sure, events have grown cataclysmic, but just on the characters attitudes alone, what's happening is really just another day at the office - there's nothing to suggest that Child Emperor or Tornado has had their worldview rocked in a particular meaningful way (certainly not to the extent that the Saitama Group has). I get that this is the joke - Saitama does incredible things and no-one notices them - but it's keeping maybe a few too many characters in stasis, when I want to see them pushed outside their comfort zone.
One-Punch Man, Vol. 20 continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next two chapters (95–96) of the on-going manga series with a bonus story.
The tankōbon continues the Monster Association Arc. An underground strike force is formed as the S-Class Heroes from the Hero Association plans on what to do next. Flashy Flash is a part of this underground strike force and heads into the Monster Association headquarters in order to save the kidnapped boy, but is met by Tempest Wind and Hellfire Flame who has joined the Monster Association.
Flashy Flash is an S-Class Hero who is ranked thirteenth. He is a feminine-looking, high-velocity hero. He moves at extreme speeds, accurately using his sword on many distant targets at once. In addition to his sword skill, Flashy Flash is also a strong hand-to-hand combatant. His abilities stem from his extensive training in the Ninja Village. Tempest Wind and Hellfire Flame is also a pair of ninjas from the group who recruit Speed-o'-Sonic to the Monster Association in order to fight the Hero Association, especially Flashy Flash, but are simultaneously defeated by Flashy Flash and he kills them both simultaneously.
This tankōbon is written by One and illustrated by Yusuke Murata. For the most part, the tankōbon focuses on Flashy Flash and explores his powers and backstory further. It also shows the reasons behind Tempest Wind and Hellfire Flare and their reasoning behind their defection to the Monster Association as they finally reveal their mosterification forms. Normally, they are at Demon Level, but in their Monster forms they are Dragon Level threats. It is a shame that they died so definitively as they were one of the better villains in the series.
All in all, One-Punch Man, Vol. 20 is a good continuation to a new series that seems really intriguing and I can't wait to read more.
