I'm a mother, wife, homemaker, pet lover, teacher, student, reader, writer, drinker of tea & wine (depending on the time of day) and sleep-deprived dreamer. I live in Syracuse, NY, with my husband, Doug (also a writer with books available on Amazon), our three children and too many furred & feathered friends to list!
Milburn has a book store again, Books & Bubbles! The town has been without one since Larry Biggs, the previous owner, moved to a retirement home. Larry's grandson, Flint Biggs owns and operates the antique store across the street from the book store. Flint was certain that he would inherit the bookstore when his grandfather died. Flint felt blind-sided when his grandfather left the book store to Michelle, Flint’s ex-wife!
At Michelle’s grand opening of Books & Bubbles, most people were congenial and even cheerful. As expected, there were some who were not as thrilled, such as Flint Biggs and his wife, Betty.
Jake Tully wasn’t happy either. He is a reporter for the community newspaper and enjoys giving negative reviews to local businesses. He doesn’t think that any business should have an animal inside, especially a cat. After he tripped over the cat and almost fell because he didn’t see it, he flew into a rage and threatened the cat. As expected, Michelle’s response was to warn Jake that she would not allow threats to her beloved Bubbles.
Later that night, a fire broke out in the basement of the book store. Thankfully, the damage was minimal, but there was a body. Jake Tilly is dead, but he was not burned to death. He suffered a severe blow to the head before the fire started.
Jake was not a pleasant person. He loved to find people’s secrets. He would often blackmail the people with a threat of exposure.
Who killed Jake? Why was he killed? Why was the fire started in the bookstore? Can Michelle prove her innocence? Will Nora Nathaniel be able to help Michelle figure out the mystery?
Nancy McGovern has another hit on her hands with “Reading With the Dead”. She is doing a wonderful job with her “Return to Milburn” series. She is tying in her much loved characters and introducing new and interesting people and situations. It is much like real life, where people enter and leave our lives people on a continuing basis.
Everyone is excited about the old bookstore opening up with a new owner and name. Michelle Reed has returned to Milburn after her ex-grandfather in law left her the bookstore in his will. The open house is going well until Jake Tipper claims he tripped over Bubbles, Michelle's cat. Strange she had him in the basement. After the open house, later on, that night, someone had set the bookstore's basement on fire. But that's not all, there's a dead body in there also. At first, everyone thought it was Flint, her ex-husband because he is missing. His wife, Betty, is upset he is missing. Little does Michelle know this only the beginning of her problems. Nora cannot believe that Michelle is a killer so she decides to look into this. Something isn't sitting right with her. No one saw the mess coming. Get ready this story has a few curves that even I didn't see coming. I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of this book.
Nora was excited to hear the old bookstore was reopening, especially when nobody wanted to open one in the age of e-readers. An accident with a cat results in an angry customer, who threatens to ruin the nice lady’s new bookstore opening. Of course, this guy happened to be a reporter writing a review.
Books have always been my friends, too, so here’s hoping the store makes it. Suddenly, a fire breaks out in the basement and a dead body is found in the shambles. The body was burned to a crisp so it couldn’t be identified. Still, that left the new bookstore owner as a prime suspect.
Can Nora identify the body and clear her favorite bookstore owner?
An easy read and a good, little mystery! Truly enjoyable!
A brilliant, delightful and enjoyable adventure!!!
I didn't know what to expect when I picked this book to read. It was the title that aroused my curiosity! As I progressed through the book I savored the thrilling content, the thoroughly entertaining characters including the superlative Bubbles and the easy, effortless narrative held me enchanted until the last word was read.
The humor and the seriousness alternated adding to the charm of the book. A beautifully crafted murder mystery!! I was thrilled to discover that I have a lot more books by this author and now I am off to read them one after another!!!
Another outstanding cozy mystery from Nancy McGovern! When the old bookstore is opened after many years of being closed, Nora naturally goes to the grand opening. It seems Not a is never far away from murder occurring and again she must suffer through lots of clues, a few red herrings, and trying to keep her newest friend from being in jail or worse! Lots of surprises, twists, and great sleuthing to keep the reader interested and turning pages throughout the story. Can hardly wait for the next book in this series!
A light, clever cozy mystery. The title is misleading. I almost didn't read it as I don't care for ghosts or paranormal. No idea what the title is about, but the book is interesting and does contain a bookstore. It also has a cat. A few twists, turns and surprises round out the story. Thanks to the author for offering a copy for my voluntary review. Sure glad she did, as I said the title would have thrown me off.
I can't wait to see what Nora gets into next if you love a great cozy with characters you will love and a story that keeps you turning the page then this series by Nancy McGovern is a must read
I loved every book....from the first book in the series, I couldn’t put it down... and, each book I kept reading it faster... Nancy McGovern is one of my most favorite authors... enjoy !
I am such a fan of Nancy McGovern 's Milburn mysteries and am sorry they are soon to end. I will miss the characters, Nora, Harvey and Tina, and hope they live happily in their fictional after life.
Michelle has inherited an old bookshop and is having a grand reopening. Norah witnessed an altercation there and it appears to have severe consequences. She tries to solve a murder and arson, but the clues are not what they seem.
Quite a great story!!! Nora is really good at solving mysteries. I was so surprised at what had inspired. She is so smart figuring out different scenarios. Good book!!!!
Nora cant help but to try and solve another murder even if it means putting her own life in danger. This is definitely a page turner and will keep you reading while we follow all the twist and turns of this mystery.
