Shattered

Rate this book
Set during three different time periods, the story begins in Vienna 1938 on Kristallnacht with the Nazis flexing their muscles by dispatching the Brownshirts to smash the windows of Jewish owned businesses. “Shattered” then takes several leaps back in time to tell the history of one of those windows in particular and why breaking it was the worst possible thing anybody could have done…

Great story!

I don't read nearly enough Jewish folkhorror, or maybe there's just not enough out there. Loved this journey from Vienna in 1938, to Vienna in 1863, to Mesto Skla Bohemia in 1818 then back again.
Each time hop added more and more to the story. From Nazis vandalizing Jewish shops, to a young boy chipping a special window to a rabbi battling a demon each chapter pulls you into that specific time period.
For a short book, the author did an amazing job conveying the different time periods.
