Things in Coventry keep getting weirder.... Brighton wakes up one morning to see a very hunky man working in her yard. What's the stranger doing there? Plus there may be a killer lurking in the shadows....and one of her family shows up. Never a dull moment!
The Witches of Coventry is an entertaining, fun cozy mystery series. I'm enjoying the characters, the plots and the touch-of-paranormal in this series. Definitely a great cozy series to enjoy in October!
Brighton is intelligent, just coming into her witchy powers, and a great amateur sleuth. Her familiar is snarky and quite talented. Annika and Remy great side characters. Thorne is a bit brooding, but still likable.
I like the mix of mystery, paranormal and humor in this series. I'm enjoying the shorter length as well. The audio books range in length from 3-4 hours each. I can easily listen during my commute and while doing housework and finish a story in 1-2 days. Nice listening length! Rebecca Mitchell does a great job narrating. She really brings the characters to life.

I'm glad I found this series! I needed something entertaining and fun to read/listen to that was a shorter length. Something less involved...and just....FUN. Brain candy. A story to get lost in that lets me relax and just enjoy reading. Covid19......the pace of my job.....home responsibilities....just the stress of 2020 in general ---- I needed a break. This series fits that perfectly!!!!

This series needs some magic to save it...
After reading the first 2 books in the series it only made sense to read this one. I should have stopped at 2. The first 2 books are very simplistic & lacked the fundamentals of a cozy mystery. However they were both a fun & quick read. Book #3 was so bad, I couldn't even finish it. We start with a scene that doesn't add to anything to the story, go to a murder which is just mass of horrible adjectives & doesn't really explain anything to meeting a brother who was not even mentioned in the first 2 books. The final straw was 2 of the main characters calling the villain of Book#2 the wrong name. Not just once, but twice. I love the idea of this series but the end result leaves a lot to be desired.

Such a great series so far...
If you love Cozy Mysteries then Wicked Witches of Coventry is a series you have to read...
Absolutely love the characters!
Brighton and her familiar, Meri (a talking cat) have another mystery to solve...well the police should be solving it but Brighton just can't help herself....
Easy reading and full of twists...you never know what is going to happen next
like the ending...another cliff hanger...I can't wait for the next installment
And can we talk about the cover art....I love it! And Brighton's hair has gone from purple to green to red...hmmm what is with the natural hair colour changes...you have to read the books to find out

Some things are improving, but some things are just not. Multiple plot points never get explained, leaving us hanging. It's frustrating.

AGAIN, SO MANY MISTAKES!
Why are there so many mistakes in these books??? Are they being proofread? It’s so distracting. Fix these problems. Disappointed!

So the story still has me hooked. I love Brighton, Brody, Remy, Annika, and Thorn. I am rooting for Brighton and Remy, but obviously I already know they will be together as I read Familiar Kitten Mysteries 1 and 2. I also love the suspense and mystery, the relationships forming despite the witch feud. I am glad Remy is back to normal.
Honestly, it is lucky the story is good because the errors are atrocious.
Issues:
1. I just have to start with this one as it is a massive issue. Grey Bane is a shapeshifter, a wolf. I had a feeling considering his name, it is quite obvious to the point it screams in the reader's face. He turns into a snake. Is he an everything shifter or a wolf shifter? Shapeshifter suggests everything, werewolf suggests one; although I see books out there where shifters have only one form. I also see books using "were" as a tag with all animals (ex. werepanther). Then I think, is he literally a wolf who shifts into everything, like in Native American legends about animals turning into humans? The guy seems comfortable as a human, though. So how the heck does a wolf shifter, who is obviously comfortable in human form, turn into a snake? Then an ant or leaf or whatever? Is he a skinwalker?
2. This is another massive issue. In Familair Kitten Mysteries, Brighton and Remy tell their daughter, Kinsley, that Thorn jr.'s father may have been Thorn sr.'s brother. They proceed to tell the story of how Thorn sr.'s ex returned to Coventry with his alleged child. In this book, Thorn (obviously Thorn sr.) learns he has a daughter.
3. This is also pretty big. Brighton comments on how she can magically put her groceries away if Grey Bane would just go back to working on the garage. Isn't that personal gain?
4. Meri magically conceals Brighton and Brody in Gregory's condo as they check to verify the place is truly empty. If the cat can do that, why doesn't he do it at the dorm? Why hasn't he done it before?
5. Meri has Brody frozen on the couch when Brighton and Thorn come home because Brody walked in on a ghost/magic situation. The thing is, Brody walked in on that. How is he frozen on the couch? Then after Meri releases Brody, Brody sits down. Apparently Brody WAS standing up.
6. At the start of the book, it is stated a spider killed Langoria and almost killed Annika. It was a scorpion, which the book does say on the next page but the first time it says spider.
7. Brighton says the house affected her the first time she had stepped into it. That didn't happen. Brighton's first reaction was "underwhelming". That term was actually used a few times in book 1.
8. Thorn comments on how Brighton says she doesn't know her brother well. She never says that, though. Yeah, Brighton muses over the fact she doesn't talk to Brody much and she can't recall if Brody is still in college or a graduate, but she never says she doesn't know him.
9. Brody starts using magic pretty quick. He helps Annika put out a fire and heal Remy. I know Remy and Brody spend an entire day over books, but Brody makes it clear he wants to read before doing lab work. So how does he know magic so well so quick?
10. Lots and lots of typos.
11. Brighton and Meri use Brody's name (or pronoun to reference him) as they are speaking to Brody, so it comes off as if they aren't speaking to Brody or are leaving him out of the conversation. They should be using "you".

Brighton was awakened suddenly in the early morning hours with a loud hammering in her front yard! Meri jumped up to the window to see if he could see what caused the noise. A tall, muscled man was building something at the end of Brighton’s driveway! Her cat criticized her for ogling the man. Her mystery man was Grey Bane, owner of Bane Construction. Apparently someone hired him to build a garage – but the contract was from 30 years ago! Apparently it was her Aunt Maude who signed the contract, but who had just paid the deposit to begin work? Grey said he called the bank and they said the payment had been lost in their system, so they sent it along. When she went back inside to make breakfast, there was no food to eat! What a strange day.
As Brighton pulled into Mann’s Gas & Grocery to restock her food, she found a dead body lying in the parking lot! The woman had died a violent death, stabbed by a knife. Brighton called Thorn and the store owner opened the door to let her come in. Deputies, crime scene techs, and the FBI converged on the scene. While the FBI searched the grocery store, the owner and Brighton sat on the grass. To her surprise, her brother Brody -- whom she had not seen in quite some time -- drove up and was pale, shaking, and actually crying as he looked at the body! What was he even doing here?
Apparently Brody was the victim’s fiancé and had been looking for her after they had a fight and she returned his ring. Worse yet, the FBI had taken over since this murder followed the pattern of a serial killer they were chasing. Would Brody be accused? Could Brighton find the real killer? And why had her hair turned red and green?

In the last book, Annika became a victim of Janet, and it took the Aunties and Meri to bring her back. The witches also used their justice on her as well. This is something Thorn is going to have to come to terms with as some things can't be dealt with by humans. Annika is now recuperating at Amelda's and she's not allowed visitors.
As this book opens, a contractor, Grey Bane, is hammering outside Hangman's House at an ungodly hour. Brighton gets dressed and confronts him only to find he's honoring a contract made by his grandfather to her Aunt Maude. Apparently, a glitch in the banking system had waylaid the payment and on a revamp of the system the payment went through. So, Brighton is getting a garage for a price set thirty years prior.
For some reason the house has emptied the refrigerator again, so Brighton has to go get groceries, unfortunately when she arrives at Mann's, she finds a body by the gas pumps. She calls Thorn and pounds on the store door, hoping Bob Mann would answer quickly.
Couple of unexpected things happen here, first is the FBI is going to take control of the case since the victim fits the profile of a serial killer's prey. Second, Brighton's brother Brody shows up at the scene, and it seems he was the victim's fiancé.
Brody and Brighton haven't been close since her mother was always fueling animosity between them. Now they are going to get the chance to know each other under very different circumstances.
Brighton confesses to Thorn about discussing with Remy telling Brody of his heritage and what being in Coventry means. Thorn is more understanding than she expected and she's grateful for that.
Of course, Brighton's not going to stay out of the investigation. She regains Annika as her accomplice and adds Brody to the mix.
We take some pretty convoluted twists to get to the bottom of this murder. Once we know the culprit, I could see the hints that were staring me in the face.
The Epilogue also throws a major twist. So glad I am reading the boxset so I can just keep reading.

I'm really loving this series oh so much and love being in Coventry.
In this one Brighton has many things happening once again.
From the time she's realized she's a witch and started living at the Hangman's house, things have definitely become a lot more action filled for her.
Brighton was just supposed to be on a grocery run because for the first time since she's living at her house, her house doesn't give her the needed groceries as it usually does.
But what was supposed to be a quick run turns into Brighton finding herself coming across another crime scene and this one so brutal that it leaves her beyond shocked.
The surprise turn is that Brighton's brother, brodie is back in town and makes it to the suspect list.
Brighton wants to repair her relationship with her brother and now it's needed all the more when it's realized that he might all be a witch after all.
We have suspense as to who's behind the crime and as there's absolutely no clue but many suspects, it was crazy and also dangerous but much needed how Brighton goes about carrying her own investigations with the help of her friends, Remy and Annika and also her brother.
I liked that we get to see what's up with Remy as things start to become clear.
Then there's thorn, Brighton's boyfriend. When we finally think that they are good now, something happens that again makes it hard to understand about what's going on.
I'm honestly not sure what is thorn's problem as he's hot and cold.
And then there's that ending... To say this complication is shocking and definitely makes me question as to what will happen next.
Magical shenanigans are much needed when you have a case to solve as Brighton takes it upon herself but what if sometimes that magic might go haywire.
Also the new stranger in town is raising all kinds of red flags that I'm thinking why can't Brighton see.
Oohh... Can't wait to start the next one. Loving it in Coventry. ❤️❤️

Synopsis:
The good news is that when Brighton finds a body in Coventry this time, she is not a suspect. The bad news is that the prime suspect is Brighton’s brother who just arrived in town after his fiancé was murdered at the gas station. Although Brody and his fiancée’s relationship wasn’t perfect by any means he didn’t kill her! Yet again, it’s up to Brighton to solve the murder only this time she needs to save her baby brother.
What I liked:
-I love all the main characters (except thorn) and find the quaint little town atmosphere to be so fun.
-I really liked Brody and hope he sticks around for a while. It was nice to see Brighton and her brother grow closer together as adults after not being close as younger kids.
-This book connects really well to the precious books and to the next book as well. Overall, looking at the individual books as chapters to a bigger story is really helpful. The books are much better developed when you consider them as a part of a whole than when you consider each individual story.
-I love Merri… I’ve mentioned it every review, but here’s a reminder: he’s a riot.
What I didn’t like:
-I didn’t love Thorn before but this book completely cemented it. I can’t fathom why Brighton likes him. He accuses her brother of murder without knowing him at all and acts all high and mighty about Brighton investigating. He’s super annoying.

Brighton stumbles onto another body. This time, it hits even closer to home as the woman is her brother Brody's fiancee and it may be that Brody will be considered a suspect, especially since the woman seems to be the victim of a serial killer so the FBI is now involved.
Also jolting her life at the moment? The builder who is fulfilling the terms of a contract her Aunt Maude set up 30 years ago for a new garage. The man is BUILT and the women in town are all attracted. He seems to have eyes for Brighton though so that's a third man now after her.
Her relationship with Thorn is shaky and she doesn't know why but at least Remy seems to be coming back to himself.
Like the other two books, you'll need to understand that this is a short book that is fast, fun, and really fluffy. Plot points are introduced and never followed up on. And Brighton isn't really developing as a character. You'd think that, after centuries of witches being able to hide their powers, she'd get that it would be a good thing to do but she tells, well, basically everyone what she is. I've enjoyed the stories so far and allowed for character development being limited by length but she is getting a little TSTL. Hopefully the next book helps her figure it out.
Also jolting her life at the moment? The builder who is fulfilling the terms of a contract her Aunt Maude set up 30 years ago for a new garage. The man is BUILT and the women in town are all attracted. He seems to have eyes for Brighton though so that's a third man now after her.
Her relationship with Thorn is shaky and she doesn't know why but at least Remy seems to be coming back to himself.

Brighton’s morning is not starting off so great. First, she is awakened from a peaceful slumber by loud hammering coming from her front yard. Apparently, someone hired and paid Grey Bane’s company to build a garage on the property 30 years ago and the paperwork was recently discovered. Now up, Brighton decides to fix breakfast, but there is no food to eat. The house has never done that to her before. She sets out to Mann’s Gas & Grocery, only to discover a woman violently murdered and left in the parking lot. Brighton soon discovers the woman is her estranged brother Brody’s fiancé. What more could possibly go wrong in one day?
Once again, Brighton finds herself in the middle of a murder investigation when Brody is suspected of the murder. Can she solve the case before he is locked up behind bars? And what is the mystery behind her hair changing colors once again?

Sloppy continuity errors! The Karen from the previous book is Janet in this one. It once says that the person in the previous book was attacked by spiders—& then a sentence or 2 later it’s corrected to scorpions. The town is once referred to as Covington. Detail: I would think doing something supernatural in the cellar while there are humans upstairs, they’d want the cellar door closed; then how does Meri come to the rescue down there? Is there a cat door? That was never mentioned before. Or is he going to use magic to open the door? And if there are humans in the kitchen at that moment he just keeps them from seeing it? Or did he use his network of tunnels?
Anyway, I mostly enjoyed it. Kept listening when I should’ve been doing other things. Generally a very good reader on the audio except a couple times when 2 women were talking I couldn’t tell them apart, & sometimes Meri’s voice seems too high—he is a male cat after all—& so sometimes I didn’t understand at first it was him talking.

The bother a brother can cause.
A good read. Okay not terrific with a less than satisfactory ending. Yup would imagine that three witches and a powerful familiar could take down a killer, plus there's also the fact that she's getting dumped. Although he really wasn't a good fit for her as he couldn't accept her as she was.
Waking to banging is never a great start but now the house has taken away all the food. A trip to the local store should be fairly innocuous but in reality it leads her to finding a body. A body of a young woman, savagely killed, who turns out to be the fiance of her baby brother. Now with him as a suspect she takes him back to her house. Throw in a serial killer, the FBI, a controlling father, an affair, a contractor that starts putting the moves on her, the return of Thorn's ex, Remy and telling her brother about magic. Will they find who the serial killer is? Will Thorn stick by her? Will her brother accept magic?

I have mixed feelings on this book. I have all of this series and they are short enough that they are actually novellas and not full books, which would explain some of the condensing of the storylines, but there are some issues with this one from the 2nd book.
First, in this one the "villain" from book 2 was referenced multiple times...by the wrong name. That character was named Karen in book 2 and the author called her Janet in this one. Also, the town was also called by the wrong name (Covington instead of Coventry) at one point.
I like Brighton, but I REALLY hate her need to be involved in investigations and her constant B&E. That has already gotten old and I'm hoping that won't continue in the future books. I do like the intro of her brother, Brody, and hope he stays around. Remy still bugs me, but looks like he may get better. This is Book 3 of the Wicked Witches of Coventry series and I am so in love with this series. These books can normally be read as a stand alone, but this one has a kinda sorta cliff hanger. One book leads to another as the story progresses.
I love all the characters in this series. They are so fun! The story line is so engaging. Love the interactions of the characters. The descriptions to detail are easy to visualize. I can not wait until the next book. Thanks to the cliff hanging, I want to know what is going to happen...and I want to know now! :)

Another wonderful story!
One of the things that I absolutely love about a Sara Bourgeois book is that she throws you curve balls that you just don't find in this genre. Brighton is not your typical new witch. For one thing, she's divorced. She is also pretty level headed, has a dry wit, and refuses to hide what she is from the people that she cares about. Brighton has to deal with a brutal murder, her baby brother showing up, and the FBI. Her boyfriend Thorn is a whole other thing. There are some interesting twists to this mystery and you will definitely have fun learning who did it and why. As for her brother Brody, and Remy and Thorn, there are some serious (and fun) things happening with all the men in her life. Really, treat yourself and dive into this series!

A hot stranger starts building her a garage, her estranged brother shows up, her friends are still not quite back to themselves, she is getting serious about her cop boyfriend and oh yah, she finds another dead body. What’s a witch to do?
This is a great paranormal cozy mystery with lots of side stories and quirky characters. The characters seem to pop off the page, making you engaged quickly into the book. The storyline flows along smoothly and quickly as it is filled with action, surprising twists, unexpected turns and suspense as it keeps you guessing until the great climax. I love the quirky characters, the small town atmosphere, the writing style and the paranormal mystery. It is a cozy mystery fan’s dream. Enjoy!

I must admit I'm conflicted about this book. The 1st 2 chapters felt rushed but the addition of Brighton's brother Brody was nice, hopefully he stays around. For the most part with cozies you know that 9/10 that the sheriff & the FML will end up together & usually I'm all for that. So at the start of this series I dismissed Remy and was Team Thorn all the way but this book made me want to stand firmly for Team Remy. Then ending holy smokes talk about the cliched ex back in the picture move but sooooo much worse. I'll be honest the ending sucked hard, now I just hope Brighton and Remy have a HEA ending together.

I am rather torn by this book and, yeah, the series.
The characters are good and interesting and they are developing. Brighton, Brody, Remy, Annika, and Thorn are all engaging. But...
There is no damn cozy mystery. Yeah, there is a corpse. But in this book, like the first two, Brighton's approach to finding clues is to break into people's houses. Seriously? And in this book, Thorn does not even get to be the human cop foil to the witch detective (as in the Witches of Keyhole Lake series), because the FBI pulls Thorn off the case. The case is "solved" by the murderer monologuing. And some of the actions in the plot make no sense at all.
I am happier with thinking about this book when I simply don't fret about the silly presumed-mystery and simply enjoy the characters.

This was a great addition to the series especially as it expanded on Brighton's family more as well as learnt more about what was happening with Remy after all that occurred in the last book. There is new people to town and mysteries abound that leave everyone wondering who the killer is and is Brighton's family involved and will this be the thing that breaks her and Thorn up when they have only just begun their relationship?! There is plenty to keep you going and when you get to the end .....well I am not sure how I feel about it!

Who would have thought getting a garage built was murder?
Unfortunately, the girl who was murdered was Brighton’s brother’s girlfriend.
This story has it all magic, murder, mayhem and plenty of suspects. The characters in the book are very realistic and fun. Add the sub plots of Brighton’s hair changing color as she comes into her powers; Brody learning he is a witch; and Meri the cat who is totally attitude driven, and you have chaos on a cosmic scale. The twist at the end of the story leaves me wanting to read the next book quick. Purchased this book through kindle unlimited and highly recommend it.

Brighton, a Coventry witch, is awakened by a pounding noise only to find a contractor building a garage at the end of her driveway. Then her house which usually supplies all the groceries has decided to take them all away and she has no coffee in the house. She decides to go to the grocery and finds a savagely killed young woman by the gas pumps. A few minutes later she is surprised when her estranged younger brother shows up claiming to be the girl’s fiancé.
This was an interesting book. The one thing that I disliked about the book was how quickly it wrapped up.

Pretty good
I love these books so far except one thing...i don’t like for the leading woman in stories to be so guy crazy. A love triangle is one thing but once the character has made a choice i lose respect when she still acts like she hasn’t. If you wanted her to be complicated then keep the triangle or whatever going till she is sure. It was off putting to see her constantly worried about thorn one minute while still telling Remy how much she loves him. She is always showing doubt in her relationship but gets upset when thorn does it. Smh

Loved it.
In this book we meet Brighton's younger brother, Brody. His fiance gets murdered and he comes to stay with Brighton in her house.
Annika is recovering from what happened in the previous book and Remy is undergoing a change too.
The book ends on a bit of a twist which no one saw coming.
I really want to read the next book right now but it's very late and I have a early morning wake up so need to get some sleep.
I will be reading the next book as soon as I'm able tomorrow.

This was a fun book to read. Brighton finds a body that ends up being her brother's fiancee. Her brother, Brody, stays with Brighton while the crime is investigated and finds out that he is also a witch.
A well-written mystery with fun characters and a good taste of Brighton's various relationships with friends and family.

This series gets more and more interesting with each book. The covers are eye catching and the detail in Brighton's hair gives a clue to something that occurs with her. The ending left me wanting more and I can't believe that it just ended like that. Now I have to wait until the next book comes out to find out Brighton's reaction.
