Bellissimo Resort and Casino Super Spy Davis Way knows three things: Cooking isn't a prerequisite for a happy marriage, don't trust men who look like David Hasselhoff, and money doesn't grow on Christmas trees. None of which help when a storm hits the Gulf a week before the most anticipated event in Bellissimo history: the Strike It Rich Sweepstakes. Securing the guests, staff, and property might take a stray bullet. Or two.

Bellissimo Resort and Casino Super Spy Davis Way has three problems: She's desperate to change her marital status, she has a new boss who speaks in hashtags, and Bianca Sanders has confiscated her clothes. All of which bring on a headache hot enough to spark a fire. Solving her problems means stealing a car. From a dingbat lawyer.

Bellissimo Resort and Casino Super Spy Davis Way has three goals: Keep the Sanders family out of prison, regain her footing in her relationship, and find the genius who wrote the software for futureGaming. One of which, the manhunt one, is iffy. Because when Alabama hides someone, they hide them good.

DOUBLE STRIKE. A VIP invitation to an extraordinary high-stakes gaming event, as thieves, feds, dance instructors, shady bankers, kidnappers, and gold waiters go all in. #Don'tMissIt

I am such a fan of Gretchen Archer's Davis Way series. Madcap romps. Snappy dialogue. Serpentine mysteries. Smart sleuthing. Sweet romance. And honest-to-goodness Southern small town sense.

Number three, Double Strike, delivers everything in full and more. I often found myself snorting, chuckling, then laughing out loud. Quoting dialogue to my husband. Thinking in terms of hashtags. I can't recommend it more.

Yes, I’m going to repeat that, I #Couldn’tStopReading this novel, it was that good!

I don’t participate in social media beyond long, chatty emails to friends and families so when I began to read this novel, which is centered on the social media blitz of a gambling casinos extravagant contest, I thought my goose was well and truly cooked. Turned out, not only did I learn a lot about social media, it completely reinforced my avowed decision to stay away from it. The book is wonderful. The main character, Davis Way, is described in a derogatory fashion by a bad guy as Lucille Ball Clouseau and what makes that so funny is that it is entirely wrong. Unfortunate circumstances are what plague Davis and turn her into someone you want to help with a shampoo (so often her disasters are hair related) before you give her a huge hug and a pat on the back, especially after she’s slathered organic (?) bull semen on her singed hairline. Mixed in with all the descriptions of the types of people you expect to find hanging out in a gambling casino and the uber rich excesses of the casino owner’s wife is a really well plotted and executed mystery novel. Will Davis ever marry Bradley Cole? Will Davis’ ex-ex-husband Eddie ever truly be her ex-ex? And what in the world is going on with the building of the casino within a casino at the Bellissimo Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi? We’ve got questions, Gretchen Archer has answers.

I really appreciated the fact that this author was able to write in humorous situations without having the humor take over the story and without making the humor tedious. Davis has a family full of honest-to-goodness real people. When I read the incident with the chocolate milk I just shook my head “yes” because I can so easily see that happening. So the characters are exaggerated somewhat – don’t we all add a little something to a funny story to make it a little funnier? Admit it, you’ve done it yourself. The only slightly negative aspect of the story for me was that the resolution of some situations happened off the page and the reader was told about them later. I can see how Davis had been written into a corner so tight there was no way for her to participate, but that needed work. Will something like that stop me from reading the first two books in this series? #HeckNo! because I’ve already put both books on my Kindle.

I received an ARC of this novel through NetGalley. The opinions expressed are my own.

I was super excited to see this book on Netgalley. I recently read Double Whammy and Double Dip, books 1 & 2 in the Davis Way series and absolutely loved them. Davis Way is this unique character in a unique job. Because she works undercover security for the casino, she is constantly doing different jobs, donning disguises and getting into all kinds of strange predicaments.

Double disasters strikes on the day before Davis and Bradley Cole are to be married. They have the families gathered, but a storm hits the Gulf Coast and there is damage to the Sander's residence and all of Bianca's things. Oh yeah, and it turns out that Davis and her ex-ex husband aren't so ex. With a brand new Super Sweepstakes event happening, Bianca on the war path, and divorce papers to be corrected, Davis has her hands full.

As is typical with these books, there is so much more going on than what is on the surface. There are conspiracies within plots within plans within scams and what you thought was going on is just the tip of the iceberg. Thankfully Davis is just cagey and canny enough to get to the bottom of it.

All the favorites secondary characters are back and even a few new ones are added in. Now normally I am not big on a cliffhanger, but this one ended with a shocking announcement that will have me keeping my eye out for the next installment. Loved this - 5 stars.

I love this series. Set in Alabama at a casino, Davis is part of their super their super security team. She getting married until they discover her sleazy ex- husband isn't really an ex. Added to an elaborate scheme to rob. The casino, Davis isn't having a good week. Can't wait for book 4. You don't need to read first two to like this series but they are good reads too.

This series gets better with each one. If you like Janet Evanovich, you'll love these. I save them to read in between the sad or scary books.

Once again, Gretchen Archer pens a fast moving mystery with Davis Way still undercover for the Bellissimo Casino. This book was once again full of humor, almost slapstick. Davis aka David, is still acting as a double for Bianca Saunders and in this story, she gets Bianca in some situations that hit the press. Of course keeping Bianca from finding out what has happened is a job in itself. When there is a fire at the Bellisimo on the day of Davis and Bradley's wedding, the plans go awry. Add in the fact that her divorce to her ex-ex was never finalized and Davis is in some hot water. The "Strike it Rich Game" is where she is supposed to be concentrating her attention, but there is just way too much other stuff going on.

Davis Way and her associates are becoming more developed and we are seeing other sides to them to make them real to us. Everyone is a person with motivation, a back story, and a unique personality. Even the “bad guys” are complicated. I love how they put together the motivation and the plans of the bad guys so that we can actually believe the story could have happened. The interpersonal relationships are also filling out. Bradley Cole now works with Davis, at the same casino. He is the manager now, so he sees what she is doing and is there to help.

I really enjoyed this book. The characters, the intricacies of the plot, the humor, the unexpected happenings and the relationships all mesh together to create an enjoyable series. Ms. Archer’s descriptions of southern culture are wonderful. I doubt they will make her popular in Alabama, but it’s some of the best, snarky, sharp, intelligent descriptive writing of a place and its culture I’ve ever read. I found myself reading sections out loud to my son, who laughed along with me. Gretchen Archer is a great author to enjoy with each book in the series better than the last. I definitely recommend this one.

Another fun caper

I am really enjoying this series. The characters are fun and entertaining. The story moved at a good pace. Davis Way is such a nut, but she keeps going with the flow and ends up getting her man.

DOUBLE STRIKE — BY GRETCHEN ARCHER — A NEW DAVIS WAY CAPER

It took me almost a week to read Double Strike. I could easily have read it in one marathon night, but I was enjoying it so much, I intentionally slowed down to make it last longer. I didn’t want to eat it in one bite, as it were.

I didn’t think it was possible, but Gretchen Archer and her cast of characters have gotten even better — and they were already wonderful. Ms. Archer’s writing is crisp, sure-footed, smart. You can clearly hear the author’s voice, something that was a bit muffled in earlier books.

I have it on good authority the editors — this time — let her “have at it.” There are sections in Double Strike, descriptive, opinionated, and hilarious. So good I stopped and read them aloud to my husband. I don’t usually do that, but I was having a “wow” reading moment and had to share.

Davis Way and her associates are becoming more 3-dimensional. No more cartoons. Everyone is a person with motivation, a back story, and a unique personality. Even the “bad guys” are complicated. The interpersonal relationships are also filling out and filling up. Bradley Cole works with Davis, at the same casino. Ms. Archer could easily create an entire other series — the same events from Bradley’s point of view.

I loved it. The complexity and depth of old and new characters. The intricacies of a plot which the author handles perfectly, never dropping a stitch. I have read a lot of mysteries over the years. Thousands of mysteries — and I have never seen a plot of this complexity handled better or more elegantly. Gretchen Archer is a champ and a pro. Each book is better than the last.

Bradley’s growth as a character is particularly satisfying. He always had potential, but he was never around enough to become real. Now he’s in the middle of the action. All of the “regulars” get flushed out in this third book. Fantasy, No-Hair … even Bianca Sanders are growing new layers, developing depth.

Ms. Archer’s descriptions of southern culture are mind-blowing. I doubt they will make her popular in Alabama, but it’s some of the best, snarky, sharp, intelligent descriptive writing of a place and its culture I’ve ever read. Astute, witty. Highly quotable.

I am so impressed with Double Strike. I hate to gush, but it was a privilege and a pleasure to read this, especially because I’ve been a fan of Gretchen Archer since Double Whammy. And I was sure — knew for sure — that this author has “it,” the special something which separates an author from the herd, makes her unique, memorable. And I’m betting “best seller.”

I didn’t want Double Strike to end, but when I got to the final few chapters, I knew I could not put it down until I finished it.

It was 2:30 in the morning when I finished the book … and I read the last chapter three times, just to make sure I hadn’t missed anything. A fantastic, climactic finish to this story! Our intrepid Davis Way has plenty of bread crumbs to follow into her next adventure. A satisfying conclusion for readers with enough dangly bits to make us come back and read the next installment.

Author, author!!

Double Strike is available from Amazon (release on October 21, 2014) in paperback, hardcover, and Kindle. Do not miss it! This is a great read. Fast, funny, witty, intelligent … and fun. You will like it. That’s a promise.

And you will love Walter, wherever he may be.

Davis Way’s wedding plans go up in flames. Actually, the penthouse of Richard and Bianca Sanders, owners of the Bellissimo Resort and Casino, is in flames. Davis Way is part of the elite security team at the Bellissimo Resort and Casino in Biloxi, MS. She has to go and help get the Sanders out of their safe room. Davis has half the code to the safe room keypad - oops – not anymore. After being released, Bianca Sanders relieves Davis of her entire wardrobe until she can get replacements for everything that was ruined in the fire. In her “spare” time Davis just happens to double for Bianca at events she doesn’t want to attend.

In one week, the Strike It Rich Sweepstakes will be the event that everyone wants a chance to win. Strike It Rich is a casino in the casino and everything is being kept under wraps. Davis and her partner Fantasy have gone undercover to make sure there are no problems. After finding a Strike staff member impaled in the lighting system – Davis knows that the trouble is just beginning. Davis had better figure this out quick or there will be a lot more dead bodies.

Things to ponder: Will Davis and Bradley ever get married? What is causing Fantasy to sneeze? Why does Elspeth have a gun in her tote bag? Who are the people in the photo with Cassidy Banking Williams? Can Christmas tree growers really become millionaires?

Gretchen Archer has proven that Davis Way is here to stay. This third book in the Davis Way Crime Caper series is a winner. Her turn of phrase makes this such an enjoyable read. The story is laugh out loud funny and the pages practically turn themselves. I found myself riveted to my seat – I had to know what happened next. Mystery lovers will enjoy watching Davis figure out what is going on at the Bellissimo - while trying to get her life in order. I love that the author goes “all in” and gives the reader a marvelous ending. So, if you like your mystery with a little gambling on the side, then you should place your bet on Double Strike.

I finished my advanced copy of Double Strike by Gretchen Archer. How. Does. She. Do. It. Funniest and most touching book, so hilarious, and so suspenseful. Stories within stories, all wrapped up in a fun tidy bow. And what a setup for Book #4! Laughed, cried, laughed some more.

One thing I really love in this third book of the series is how Davis has evolved to be part of a team both at her job and at home with Bradley. She's still her spunky, independent, accident-prone self but not quite so alone. Fantasy, Baylor and No Hair (excuse me, Jeremy) are such nice foils. And Bianca continues to be over-the-top ridiculous-funny. Not to mention the wardrobe, hair, and eye color choices! I love the recurring characters from Pine Apple and I hope to see all them in the next book. Plus, I suspect Bradley's mother will also return at some point. (Should be some good hijinks.) But the way the author nails the personality of the social media specialist is, to me, the most hilarious aspect of the whole story. #Really!

The plot is clever and intricate, the hashtags and nicknames abound, and this book is just a rollicking good time--but with plot twists that will leave you gasping for breath and reaching for the Kleenex--and then laughing again a minute later. This is a wow book. You'll want to read it again to see what you missed; hanging out at the Bellissimo with Davis is a great way to spend the day. #greatjobgretchen #ohDavis #savewalter

Double Strike is the third Davis Way adventure from author Gretchen Archer and publisher Henery Press. (#FavoritePublisher) I haven't had the pleasure of reading either of the first two books (#missingout!) and it only took one chapter of the third to make me realize that I've been missing out on something extraordinary. The short and sweet review is this: I love this book. I love the writing, I love the characters, and I especially love Davis Way.

The action starts straightaway with a lightening strike at the Bellissimo Resort and Casino just days before the start of a top secret gambling game release and special event. Once things get underway, it's impossible not to be hooked by Gretchen Archer's writing style and plot twists that are as funny as they are functional. (#couldn'tputitdown)

Double Strike provides a page-turning read that kept me up past my bedtime every night since I started reading. (#yawn) Davis' life is filled with twists, turns, and the crazy antics of a rich socialite who Davis resembles enough to make things really . . . interesting. The fast pace and humor of the story kept me engaged the entire time and made me eager to make room on my to-read list immediately for Double Whammy and Double Dip!

I received a copy of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review

This is the third book in the Davis Way series. Davis works super secret undercover at the Bellissimo Resort and Casino. She is also used as a double for the owner's pretentious wife. The Bellissimo has a new casino manager who has been setting up a highly anticipated event, Strike It Rich Sweepstakes, via social media that will take place in the new casino in the casino. Davis is set to marry her lawyer love, Bradley Cole, the weekend before the sweepstakes starts. The same weekend that the casino is struck by lightning and she finds out she is still legally married to her ex-ex Eddie. Now Davis has to add figuring out her legal woes to her list of to-dos. Davis is smart, sarcastic & a magnet for trouble. Her family & co-workers are hilarious! Teenage delinquents to shoot outs at a Christmas Tree farm. The team is doubly motivated to find out more about #StrikeItRich when a staff member is found dead at the bar.

This book (and others in series) is highly recommended!

A fast moving thriller with Davis Way still a undercover spy for Bellissimo Casino. She is a double for Bianca Saunders. There were plans for Davis that go astray when the Bellissimo penthouse burns the day of the wedding. When Bradley applies for the marriage license it is deny as Davis is still married to Eddie due a paperwork error. Davis must correct the error, double for Bianco, and find out was happening in the GAME STRIKE IT RICH! This is very funny book as Davis handles the problems. There is a hurricane headed for Mississippi and Alabama to add to the confusion. I recommend this series.

I absolutely love this series, Davis Way is just hilarious. I was crying with laughter by the second chapter of the book. Davis is one of my favorite characters ever, and she gets herself into more trouble with each book, the supporting characters are great too, especially "No Hair". FANTASTICALLY ENTERTAINING BOOK!!!!!

I don't know where to start .... This book is so good 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍. I enjoyed every moment of reading it!!!!!! Gretchen's sense of humor and descriptions are off the charts!!! You feel like you are sitting in the back of the room watching the interplay between these quirky and endearing characters in person.... You really do. I don't want to give the plots away but there were many intriguing and fascinatingly unique ones which kept me riveted throughout the whole book! The pace of the story is so fast you have to pay close attention to keep up with the narratives but it is a reader's joy to do so because every page, every sentence, every paragraph is packed with humor, fun, mystery and the suspense of wondering what is going to happen next!!! There are some scenes which even hours after reading them still make me laugh. One in particular is when they are riding in a car in Alabama wearing rain ponchos.... Can't tell you more but if you read the book I guarantee you will laugh so long and loud your dog, if you are fortunate enough to have one, will look at you like you are crazy!!!!! Give this book a try .. You won't regret it!!!!!!

MY SYNOPSIS
Double Strike (#3) takes reins from Double Dip (#2) to tell the story of Davis Way’s mysterious/romantic/hilarious/undercover life.

If you were Davis Way, here are a few pointers to begin with your (very chaotic) life:

1. You are on the security force of a casino, sort of a spy on the team.

2. You are not easily ruffled by theft, murder, shooting because that’s what you headbutt on a daily basis.

3. You are the splitting image of your boss’ wife (if you coat an additional heavy layer of foundation, pull on some contacts and spray-dye your hair) and that—unfortunately—makes her your boss too.

4. Your relationship with you boyfriend-now fiancé is as stable as it can ever be… if your ex-ex husband doesn’t rear his shit-head, his mother doesn’t have a plan up her sleeves to throw you under a bus (literally, if she just knew a bus driver).

5. There’s a wedding date looming, but all you can think is, ‘big yay! Ya-ay! Yay? Oh, crap yay’, when your ex-ex husband drops the biggest bomb that leaves you thinking.

So now that we are settled on your character, let’s brief you on your mission. One, your boss’ son is in connection with the son of drug lords for dealing in boarding school which has gained him a suspension. It’s your duty to solve up this ‘mystery’ which you wouldn’t classify as mystery at all, because as far as you are concerned, he’s bad news, his parents just have to realize that. Two, as if these fucking drug lords aren’t posing enough problems for you on case one, they are trying to close down the casino by gambling with drug money? Find out if their legal tender isn’t legal tender at all and get the FEDs on them before they cause over three hundred employees including yourself, to become redundant. Three, the sight of the newest casino manager gives you the strangest feeling, like you know he’s up to something with his little Strike It Rich Casino within your casino to which he’s hired new staff for. Whatever the hell, he’s doing behind closed doors, it’s your duty to find out even if that means getting on some contacts and a different hair colour to work under a thirteen-year-old shape-shifted into the body of a thirty-year-old whose giddiness makes you want to shoot a bullet through your head and hope someone does the same to her just so no one passes through your plight.

As if all the above isn’t problem enough, one fucking lawyer is causing a stir in your family by chairing the divorce between your grandmother and her husband, you have to learn how to use twitter like a pro else you lose your job, your boss’ wife is getting you into the most outrageous gigs because apparently playing her in public with her husband (enough to get your hair, which she supposes it’s hers, burnt!) isn’t enough and your boyfriend doesn’t see no future (kids) with him if you happen to keep your (very dangerous job, not to mention) after the wedding (which you are praying Alabama courts would ever let happen).

Welcome to your life… your life as Davis Way. You have big shoes to fill, unless of course your boss’ wife gives you ones twice smaller than your real size.

MY REVIEW
Do I even need to write a review for this title? Aren’t you tired of me screaming at you to go get all Gretchen Archer’s works??

I adored the storyline! Could I not really? When Gretchen Archer throws in moments you haven’t ever read in any title. One of the reasons I love about Gretchen’s Davis Way series is she takes out all contemporary topics contemporary women face on a daily basis (lack of commitment, career-hungry bitching) and puts a whole marvelous spin with lots of action(!) never pulled off that way in any chick-lit title.──★

Davis Way as usual was fantastic! Beautiful voice, humorous voice and a hilarious way of hash-tagging to completely express a thought other writers would have made her waste a whole paragraph on (Hashtag Impressive). Davis Way never disappoints and she leaves you hungry for more in subsequent upcoming titles in the series.──★★

Oh, I did love the comeback of the characters that I fell in love with in Double Dip (#ThrowbackThursday) and the introduction of some fun, funky characters that made this book #VeryEntertaining. No Hair, the team leader who is always getting pissed at our lead for having the tendency to give everyone a nickname. Fantasy, the ex-women’s prison guard who could slap a fugitive into calming down even when they knew a life-sentence was breathing down their neck. Baylor, the five-year old partner shape-shifted into the body of an adult who would never get serious on assignments. Bianca, the boss’ wife with very high standards for whoever wasn’t willing to impersonate her. Eddie The Ass, the ex-ex husband who’s always in time to remind our lead girl how much of a bitch she is. Bea, Eddie’s mother who hasn’t quite forgiven our lead for splitting the world into #TeamDavis and #TeamEddie in their blood-boiling nasty divorce battle (which to her dismay, led to her son’s fanatics defeated). Hashtag Elspeth, the twitter-nutter who would stop at nothing to teach our lead just how to create the right hashtag topics in her tweets. It’s a characterization party in this novel. #Amazing #JadoreDior!──★★★

Humor, check. Suspense, check. #LolRead #VeryGripping──★★★★★

My rating is obviously a five star! And I am very sure I’d keep giving a hundred-percent to all the books in this series before they are even conceptualized because… #GretchenFuckingWritesGood!

I recommend this book to anyone who’s been a spy or not. Anyone who loves a good mystery in their chick-lit. Anyone who’s turned on by Women Sleuths. And anyone, just anyone who wants anything to keep them laughing out loud. If you very much hate sitting on the edge of your seat during your leisure time, warning, this is not a novel to relax to! But really, how can you relax with a title so fast-paced if you blink you might have to start all over!

I received this free eBook through The Fussy Librarian in exchange for a fair review.

If I could use one word to describe this book from beginning to the end, it would be “hilarious”. The main character of the book, “Bellissimo Resort and Casino Super Spy Davis Way,” is always trying to fix a problem or another at the gambling casino where she works, including but not limited to being a stand in for her boss’s wife, who is her spitting image, and keeping the boss’s son out of trouble as well as catching all kinds of bad guys who are up to no good. If you add her quirky family members and the future mother-in-law who has an issue with the fact that she is not a Texan, you have one terribly funny and entertaining book. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

This series is a lot of fun. It is amazing how much crime there is in a casino in Mississippi. Throw in some kooky relatives, an annoying ex-husband and part of your job being a stand-in for the boss's wife and Davis Way has a lot on her plate.

I like the Davis is in a committed relationship and even though the ex is around, it isn't a love triangle. Davis and Fantasy have their work cut out this time as there is a casino inside the casino opening and they didn't get to vet it (and the people) like they normally do. Plus the new casino manager fires Davis's cover immediately. Plus we meet the boss's teenage son this time around and Davis manages plenty of trouble as usual.

Love this series! And book #3 is better than the last one! It is a quick moving humorous cozy mystery that takes place in The Bellisimo casino. Davis Way is an undercover spy along with her coworkers, who finds crooks causing problems for the casino. In this book, Davis uncovers a drug ring at work and one thing leads to another. It has everything I love about cozy mysteries- interesting likable characters, friendship, family (including ex exes), an intriguing mystery and a little romance. It is a very enjoyable series! Can't wait to read the next book!

This book, too, was a gift from the author.

I liked this third book in the Davis Way series as much as I liked the first two.

Here, our intrepid casino employee is trying to figure out what’s shady about a promotion being run by a group of people from outside the casino. Meanwhile, Davis is run ragged by the casino owner’s wife’s endless demands on her time.

This story, like the second one, is laced with laugh-generating lines. Archer adds to the readers’ smiles with a stream of asides that tell how Davis really feels.

The next book in the series is on my ‘To Read’ list.

#3 in the Davis Way series. A fun caper but I just didn't like the #hashtag crap throughout the book. I understand the advertising people do on social media but it's just too much tags happening that distracted from the book. A new tournament at the Bellissimo #strikeitrich is taking up all of Davis's time. Shady characters, money laundering, & social media liaison is cutting into Davis & Bradley's wedding time. Solve the mystery & quite possibly murder and pass go or will Davis's ex-ex husband get in the way?

Davis really wants to get married, seriously.
The only problem (or one of many) is the mother of all slot tournaments, being hosted by an outside entity, who has installed a casino-within-a-casino, complete with their of staff of bartenders, tech support, and much more to handle 50 “lucky” finalists who get to play for a million dollar top prize. Davis and her team notice that the same small group of people are winning but can’t quite figure out why. After a murder happens with one of the good guys as the victim it is up to Davis to find the killer, before it is too late.

Hilariously funny!

I loved the hilarious wild tales. My only thing is that sometimes the story jumps from scene to scene without any sequence. One minute, Davis is speaking to Mrs. Sanders, the next line she's speaking to Fantasy. No segue into what happened in between. However, I absolutely loved the comedy of this book. This writer is a great writer. I want to read all her books.

The story starts with a bang...as in an explosive bang....fire....what else is there to say this is Davis Way...she is hilarious and it only can go up from page one...alright so the little Sanders is home from boarding school...and oh yes there is scandal following him...BRADLEY and Davis are crazy as usual and their life just keeps spinning!!!
As for the rating...it was lovely, well written and I would read it again...and recommend it to any fan of Davis Way!!!
