Screaming fangirl on the loose!!!!

Such a great great GREAT book. I am not sure from where to start!

First of all if you are a fan of this series, YOU DO NOT WANT TO MISS THIS BOOK. Although it is mainly a story about Azagoth and his heavily pregnant wife Lilliana, you will soon realise that it is also a reunion of your favourite characters. Everybody is there.

And I have to say here that once more I have realised that if I needed to marry a paranormal guy, this should have been a tough decision between Eidolon and Jericho Barrons. And maybe Eidolon would win. He still is my favourite demon EVER (I hope this doesn't sound too creepy).
Anyway if you love Eidolon, he also plays a big part in the book -as well as all the stuff by our favourite UGH hospital.

But you will NOT also miss:
your favourite two brother angels,
the gang from heaven who keep play strategical games,
the four horsemen (Ares mostly) and their mates,
all the characters by Sheoul Gra (i.e. mostly Grim ripper’s kids),
our sweet Satan,
Jimmy Bob (yes we will finally discover who he is)
all the known fallen angels and demons and half demons and vampires and shifters....

There will not be a minute to catch your breath I am telling you.

Until the two thirds of the book, you will be hopeless. All your favourite characters will be either
Kidnapped or
Poisoned or
Killed or
Imprisoned or
Desperate and alone or
Powerless or
Betrayed or
Blackmailed etc. etc. etc.

Who will save the day?
Hmmm

Before the end of the book and after epic battles:
Roles will be changed
Characters will be upgraded
Powers will be interchanged and
Almost nothing will be the same.

Just read the book. Needless to say, the book is not a standalone. In the end, it feels like the curtain has fallen and now we wait the new books that will feature the children of our favourite characters. Please soon!!!

Don't fear the reaper, fear the monster inside!

“I just want you to know that you’re my life,” he said. “Without you, I’m a monster.” “And what are you with me?” He gave her a rare, boyish grin, made even more playful by his mop of bedhead. “A happy monster.”

Holy shit!!!! Larissa went deep for this wrap up book from the demonica series!!! For the first time in along time I wanted to skip ahead to the end because I was so worried about how Azagoth's story would end. I have loved this character from the beginning. Azagoth is a very complexed and has ran Sheoul-gra with a iron fist doing whatever it took from torture to spys to blackmail and he is the master of manipulation and both heaven and hell both fear him,but it has also brought him many enemies along the way.But it all changed when a smart talking beautiful Angel named Lilliana came and changed not only his world of darkness but thawed the cold dead heart of the grim reaper himself! With a baby coming and moloc vowing revenge Azagoth has his hands full! So when someone close to him poisons Lilliana and she's kidnapped by moloc to bargain with Azagoth to set Satan free heads will f##king roll !!! And the monster that he was before lilli will be released and heaven and hell will pay for messing with the Reaper of souls!!! What a epic book and the storytelling was outstanding!!! This book ripped my heart out time and time again and had me ugly crying more then once!! But it also had me fist pumping and cheering for azagoth and the gang. I wanted a happy ending for my grim reaper and his mate. I just didn't know that it would come with so much emotional angst and some loss. Azagoth is my favorite character from this series, hell he's in the top five of my all time favorite characters. Can't wait for Larissa 's next step into this world with next generation of warriors, children of demons and angels and the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Until next time Luv's💞💋

For love, he’ll watch the world burn.
For revenge, he’ll light the match.

Holy christ on a cracker, that was intense!!! Wowza!

Admittedly I'm not a fan of additional books for characters that have already received their HEA, no matter how much I loved them. But that rule of mine goes out the window when Larissa Ione writes one. See, her and I have an understanding. If she writes it, I read it. Period. No exceptions. So when I saw that Azagoth will be getting another book, I don't think I even blinked once before I jumped on it.

This is SO much more than just Azagoth's book, though. If you haven't read any of the other books in this series, I really don't recommend starting with this one. It reads more like a saga and is not meant to be a standalone. There's a lot of continuing story arcs that you get here and while the author does a great job reminding of past events for the reader, you simply won't have the same appreciation for the events that happen here if you haven't read the previous books and been introduced to some of the characters.

This was one epic book. It marks a somewhat story arc conclusion for one thing while launching a brand new story arc for what I'm hoping will be a brand new series (because OMG I need it to be!). If you've read Azagoth, then you're familiar with Azagoth and his beloved mate, Lilliana. Throughout the last few books we got to see many things come to a head as Satan attempts to break free from his prison. Many of Azagoth's children (Memitim) have been getting killed by a traitor that they can't seem to identify. Well, the conclusion is one epic showdown with plenty of familiar faces making a cameo. There's quite a few POVs but of course, the story arc of Azagoth and his mate is the center. A very pregnant Lili gets kidnapped by a dangerous enemy and Azagoth will do anything, kill anyone, and break every rule in Heaven's handbook to get her back.

There's so much that happens here that I can't even begin to describe. But if you've read Azagoth's book than you need to read this one. It's an action packed thrill ride from beginning to finish. And that conclusion? Holy mother of mackerel! I am DEAD. If that's the beginning of a new series, I'm desperate for more because GAH!!!!

Fans of Ione will not want to miss this epic conclusion!

So the end is nigh or a least the closing curtain on this part of this fantastic saga, ready for future story-arcs to develop and my god this was amped right up to the maximum.
This was action-packed edge of your seat momentum all the way.
So this was multiples POV's Focusing on many individuals we have come to know and love throughout this roller-coaster of a series.
It's the ultimate pinnacle of all we have been working towards and been gradually building up to and things will definitely get worse before they can get better with all players involved being brought to play and placed on the board, each with individual specific jobs in the upcoming crap-storm heading there way.
So this story ripped my heart out and made me scream in pure denial.
I was gutted and had no clue how this was all going to be resolved with any actual satisfaction to the reader.
This also went places I never imagined it would it was fantastically epic from start to finish.
All pathways here to seemed to lead to Azagoth and Lilliana with these two being our eye of the storm if you will and Azagoth will go to any lengths necessary even battle heaven and hell itself to protect his mate and unborn child.
Azagoth has become one of my most favourite Demomica characters ever with his willingness to punish all that threaten his family with such pure single-mindedness and blinkered devotion.
Here we also get to finally realise the identity of the traitor and got to say I was so way off base with who I thought it was to say I'm shocked is an absolute understatement.
Jim Bob's identity is also revealed and that one yep it made sense.
Finally, I loved where we finally arrived at here, we got our closure wrapping up this point of the story-arc but going forward with future generations there is so much scope and potential with how this could potentially evolve.
This is an amazing series that I highly recommend.

Holy cow! This was an incredible wrap up of the on-going plots in the Demonica world. As the head man in charge of Sheoul-Gra, Azagoth, aka the Grim Reaper, and his mate Lilliana ae up against an unknown enemy out to destroy them and their unborn child. There were so many feelings in this story that I don’t know where to begin. Anger, immense sadness, shock, disbelief are all present and accounted for in this page turner. Azagoth is a charming jerk in the best possible way, while Lilliana is funny and takes none of his crap. It was a heart wrenching, action packed ride that has a tremendous ending that I was so happy about. Getting to see all the beloved characters from this world was like coming home and visiting with old friends. Ione is a master in this genre and this book proves it!

5 heart-stopping stars!

OMGOMGOMG!! What a fantastic read! Azagoth's story had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. And I'm sure my heart stopped a few times along the way. Wow, what an adventure! Full of action, excitement, romance, suspense, heartbreaking lows and dizzying highs, set within an incredible paranormal world. It was everything I was hoping it would be, and I freaking loved it!

This book is the culmination of the Demonica series so far – finishing off the story arc that was created in the Demonica, Lords of Deliverance and Demonica Underworld series. Do not try to read this as a standalone. This is book #20 in the series, so that should be obvious, but I still want to say it. While there is some backstory and explanation given that will catch you up, there is SO much that has built up to this story, I can’t even imagine going into it blind. And as a mad Demonica groupie with multiple series rereads under my belt, I was in fangirl heaven as we get to catch up with pretty much everybody who has featured in the series so far, and the story is a thrilling conclusion to the arc so far, setting the scene for the new spin-off series to come.

This is Azagoth’s story. Yes, he’s already had a novella (Azagoth), but this is his full-length novel. As a former angel and now the keeper of souls and the ruler of the realm of Sheoul-gra (the ‘holding tank’ for demon souls on their way to Hell), he is a being of ultimate power. But things have changed for the grim reaper since we first met him. Now madly in love with his mate, Lilliana, who is expecting their first child, his entire outlook has changed, altering his life, his realm, and what he wants from the future. And suddenly his job and his permanent tie to Sheoul-gra is feeling more restrictive than it ever has.

Azagoth’s place in the Underworld also makes him a target. As the keeper of ultimate evil, there are those that are desperate to break him, and they are prepared to hit him where it hurts the most in order to get what they want. A new bad guy has emerged, and when the unthinkable happens, Azagoth will risk everything to protect the ones he loves.

The world was going to burn, and he was holding the match.

It’s non-stop action from start to finish. The story moves at a great pace, getting the adrenaline pumping, and keeping me glued to my kindle as it all played out. I screamed and shouted, I cried and I cheered, and I was completely swept away into this world that I love so much. There is so much happening, and the story is written in multiple POVs so we get to see all sorts of angles. Of course there are Azagoth and Lilliana, but we also get chapters from Eidolon, Reaver, Revenant, Ares, Thanatos, and more! Our beloved characters are dealing with death, destruction and war on an unprecedented level – with their usual wit and sarcasm bringing a lot of laughs - and the outcome will change their world forever.

“Who am I?” he asked, his voice dragging the very pits of Hell. “I’m death, and I’ve come for you, asshole.”

The love story is there, and I love seeing more of Azagoth and Lilliana together as they embrace all of the changes happening for them. They are strong, passionate and completely devoted to each other, and as much as we get the chance to see them showing off their individual strength and epic paranormal badassery, there are beautifully sweet moments and a lot of heart in this book as well, which I loved.

I love, love, loved this book. I can’t gush enough about how much I loved it. A fantastic read that delivered everything I wanted and more, it’s a wonderful finish to the current storyline, and I can’t wait for the stories of the Demonica kids coming soon!

5 huge stars!

I was elated to see that this author was finally coming out with a new full sized novel. However, when I saw the title, and read the synopsis I couldn’t help but be disappointed. I have been a fan of this series for a LONG time, but I feel it is stagnating. Larissa hasn’t come out with anything actually new in so long, I have lost interest in both this author and this series. The 1001 Dark Nights novellas are just not cutting it for me any more. This novel has literally already been written! I am not interested in rereading a drawn out version of Azagoth and Lilliana’s story. If Larissa comes out with ANYTHING TRULY NEW I will most definitely read it. I just can’t keep up this half effort novella stuff. Thank you for listening to my rant.

I actually read this almost immediately upon release. It's just taken a bit for me to work up the passion for a review. Because I'm a bit on the fence.

Once again with this author's books I read it pretty much in one sitting.

Azagoth's love story began in a novella and it was a good one. I remembered it well and that's saying something. But I had a problem with the further telling in that the use of his loved ones as leverage against him- felt kinda worn. Every superhero has had the same battle when it comes to love. And sure, it makes sense because it's a strong motivator. Unfortunately it's entirely predictable.

So here's the thing, Satan is caged for a thousand years. He wants out. There's a weakness in that cage he wants to exploit. So he uses players still on the board to do so. They've been introduced in previous novellas although there is a bit of a twist at the end.

Azagoth (or Reaper as in the Grim) holds the keys to unlock Satan from his cage. And major players in the underworld are throwing everything they got at him to do it. Including using his love of friends and family. With his mate and unborn child in jeopardy he may just burn it all down.

You really need to read previous books in the series to keep up with Reaper, but that's no hardship.

Despite some of the predictability, there were very moving moments to be had. I can't get into it because of spoilers, but even there I felt conflicted about the resolution.

I don't know maybe I'm just finished with this series. I am excited for the next moonbound clan novel, which is what I was really hoping for, but then again she may be moving forward in time with the series and I like that idea too!

Anyway it still gets a solid 3.9 stars from me. ;)

Larissa Ione’s Demonica series is one of my favourite paranormal romance series. It’s such a vast world, with so much to love and enjoy, and I was excited when I saw there was another full-length novel coming out. For a while, it has been short stories. As I’m not a lover of short stories, I have not been keeping up to date with the series.

I believe my three-star rating reflects this. To understand Reaper, you really need to have read everything in the Demonica world. Sure, you get enough information to put the pieces together. However, you do not get to experience things in the same way when you’re playing catch-up with information that has been covered in the short stories.

Add in the fact there are far too many points of view, with a lot of these coming from the characters we got to see in the short stories, and you realise how easy it is to get lost in this world. It’s still one of my favourite paranormal romance worlds, but with this one I felt like an outsider. Evidently, the fact I have not read everything is to blame. It’s possible once I’ve read the short stories, I will no longer feel quite so put out by this one.

Although I was not invested in this one in the way I had hoped to be, it was a book that had me hooked throughout. A lot happened in this one, with plenty occurring to keep me curious. There were some points that should have been emotional but were not, there were some points when things should have been more action packed and felt like they were dragging, yet, for the most part, I enjoyed this one. It kept me turning the pages, and it was nice to get a new full-length novel in the Demonica universe.

Plus, the possibility of spin-off novels makes this a must read for fans of the universe.

I received this book for free from Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
I've been teased by the many novellas taking us into the Demonica world the last few years and was ecstatic when I saw that we were getting a full length book in this world. I was even more excited when I saw that it was going to center around Azagoth. What I wasn't prepared for was the emotional roller coaster this book would take me on. There were many times I had to set the book down just to absorb what Larissa Ione had done. I just couldn't fathom what she was doing to some of my beloved characters!

Azagoth was one of those characters that was feared and kind of bad. Then he met Lilliana and his world was turned upside down. He changed, as well as all of Sheoul-gra. Things were different. Azagoth was bringing his children together and had even started a family with Lilliana. She is due to give birth any day. But there is still a war brewing. There is evil still trying to get Satan released and only Azagoth can do that. But releasing Satan will start the Apocalypse. So when pregnant Lilliana is abducted and Azagoth is faced with the choice of the life of his mate and child or releasing Satan, big changes are going to happen. You can't trust the evil in Sheoul, so Lilliana and the baby may never be released no matter what Azagoth does. He needs to face his options and debate the consequences. What he chooses will affect the whole world. Nothing will be the same.

I was on edge and totally torn throughout this whole book. This is not a happy story. I shed more than a few tears. The world we are left with has so much potential that I'm excited to see where Larissa Ione is going to take us. I'm hoping this is a beginning, not an end. I heard somewhere that the Demonica world is going to continue with the children next. The way Reaper is left, that is definitely a possibility. I'm not even going to tell you if there is an HEA. Thinking this may be the end of the Demonica world definitely had an effect on me while reading and I don't want to reveal anything that may affect your reading experience. This is definitely a book you'll need to absorb and soak in.

I don't think that just reading Azagoth's novella will be enough in the understanding of this book. Characters from the whole world are pulled in on this one and I think that to understand all of the players, you have to know their stories. I definitely recommend reading the series. It has been a long time, and I felt in some places I should have done a reread. Enough of the story was told that I remembered the character's story, but I definitely would have benefited from rereading.

Reaper was a gut wrenching, top read of the year for me. I was blown away by the emotions and how drawn into the story and characters I was. My fingers are crossed for a continuation of this world, and hopefully fairly soon. I know there is a lot going on in Larissa Ione's life, but I'm hoping the story is playing in her head and she'll get time to put it to paper. The world just can't be left like this!

Excerpt

Lilliana woke to someone tap dancing on her bladder.

Groaning, she rolled over and bumped into Azagoth. Pleasantly surprised that he was still in bed, she ignored her need to pee and curled up against him.

She’d missed this so much while she was gone.

“Good morning,” he murmured, his husky voice even more gravelly than usual.

“Morning.” She snuggled into his shoulder. “I’m surprised you’re not working.”

He yawned. “You wore me out last night.”

Smiling against his skin, she trailed her fingers along the hard ridges and deep valleys of his abs.

“I wanted to show you how grateful I was that you threw me a baby shower.” And she’d done it without getting too active. Eidolon couldn’t begrudge her one orgasm, right?

“Mmm.” He pressed a kiss into her hair. “You must have been very grateful.”

She slid her hand under the sheet and meandered her way to the curve of his hip. She might be a million months into her pregnancy, but her sex drive didn’t care in the least.

“I’m still grateful.”

He hissed as her knuckles brushed his shaft. “Not complaining.”

It truly had been sweet of him to gather together the denizens of Sheoul-gra for a big celebration of food, drink, and games in the traditions of people from the human, demon, and angelic cultures. She’d suffered two more bouts of intense nausea and some cramps, but they’d passed quickly. What hadn’t passed was Azagoth’s concern.

Which was probably why he was still in bed with her.

It was cute the way he hovered. Annoying at times, but cute.

“I just want you to know that you’re my life,” he said. “Without you, I’m a monster.”

“And what are you with me?”

He gave her a rare, boyish grin, made even more playful by his mop of bedhead. “A happy monster.”

“I’m very happy about the happy.” She rubbed her eyes and yawned.

“Things are good, Lil,” he said. “I never thought much about being a partner, let alone a parent, but I want to do these things with you.” He settled his hand on her belly and smiled with wonder. “This will be my first child born without a predetermined future. He or she can be anything. Do anything.”

“Incredible, isn’t it?” She pushed up on one elbow and leaned in to kiss his chest. She’d kissed every inch of him last night. Maybe she’d lick every inch of him this morning. “And our baby will be born to parents who love each other.”

Determined to show him how much she loved him, she kissed her way lower. Her lips whispered over his nipple, but before she could taste him, a cramp wrenched her insides. She sucked in a harsh breath, her hand going to her belly.

“What is it?” Azagoth jackknifed up, his expression dark with worry. “Is it the baby?”

Fierce heat swelled beneath the surface of her skin as her abdomen tightened. “I think it might be Braxton Hicks,” she said between panting breaths.

“What?”

“Cara had them.” Closing her eyes to stop the room from spinning, she eased back onto her pillow. “They’re like practice contractions.”

She didn’t remember Cara complaining about being hot and sweating buckets, though. Another cramp streaked through her, and she moaned. Cara had said they were painful, as if someone were squeezing her intestines.

This was more like someone was driving a red-hot blade through them.

“You’re white as a ghost, Lilli.”

Something’s wrong.

No, nothing was wrong. She was being paranoid.

Azagoth rested his palm on her forehead, testing her temperature. “Are these Hicks things supposed to be like this?”

She heard the panic in his voice but not the words. Her ears were buzzing. Her head was pounding. And, suddenly, a wave of agony wrapped around her and squeezed so hard she screamed. Vaguely, she heard Azagoth call out her name as a warm gush spread between her thighs.

“Lilliana? Lilliana!” His voice droned in and out as the room began to tilt. There was shouting. More pain. Her thoughts fragmented.

And then, finally…nothing.

‘There, on the edge of Lilliana’s pond, he lost it, knowing that nothing would ever be the same.’

Larissa Ione has been one of my favourite paranormal authors since I first picked up one of her books back in 2009. It seems only fitting that ten years later I’m finishing with Reaper. Whilst it’s been a long time since my last Demonica read, I didn’t find that it hampered my enjoyment, rather I felt like I was coming home to a world that is forever embedded in my heart and soul.

“All I ask is that, no matter what happens, you don’t become the monster you used to be.”
“The things I’ve done, the enemies I’ve made, all of it has led to this. I’ve endangered you and everyone I care about.”
“You’re the Grim Reaper. You had a job to do, and you’ve done it well and without incidents for thousands of years. You’ve done things the way you had to. The battle between Heaven and Hell is what stirred things up. They are the ones changing the rules of the game.”

The old adage of good versus evil has never been more fitting, although good can be quite subjective in the Underworld. The seductive and commanding Grim Reaper; Azagoth is the keeper of demon souls until they embark on their journey into hell. Eons ago this fallen angel began living in this utter dark depravity of a world where only his true love, Lilliana can bring him beauty, light and love. His pregnant mate has brought changes to Azagoth which has him questioning his path and their future together. However, when Lilliana is taken against her will and a final threat to the world and everything above, beneath and in between emerges with tremendous power, Azagoth must make personal sacrifices and inspire evil in order to save his love. With the help of much loved characters from the past, evil’s last stance at removing the equilibrium which has now worn down into a thin thread, is threatened. The ultimate epic battle begins in its gripping, suspenseful and vividly thrilling way. Every paranormal readers dream!

“Sometimes, after I’ve wrung information from a really foul. Fucked-up demon, I can’t even touch you. I’m too…stained, and you’re too pure.”

I could not put this book down for love nor money as it was fast-paced and ridiculously scrumptious in everything otherworldly. If you’ve not read Azagoth’s novella first I’d suggest you do, in order to get the full picture of the delicious and hot Grim Reaper and his beautiful angel, Lilliana. The storyline was intense and dramatic; the characters familiar as well as new. The fact that we had quite a bit of Dr Demon McHottie; Eidolon was just the cherry on the cake as it was where this journey began for me a decade ago. Now I’m in the mood for a re-read from the very beginning. Whilst this book can absolutely stand alone in many respects, every book loving paranormal romance reader should have this entire series on their book shelf of love to enjoy from the very beginning.

Reviewed for Romancing the Readers Blog: https://romancingthereaders.blogspot....

OMG...OMG...OMG!!!!

Have you read a book that as you are reading it it's so exciting that you keep putting it down and then picking it back up and continue reading it?

You know those books that get you all worked up and you feel like you are part of the story so much that you both can't stop looking (reading) and must walk away at the same time. That's how this book was for me. I don't often give five stars for a book but Reaper gets five stars and then some. It's a perfect ten!

From the second I started it I wanted no, needed to know what was going to happen. I often talk about not giving away about what happens in the story and think you should read it for yourself. Reaper is one of those cases.

I want to be carefully reviewing this one because there is so much to talk about but until you guys get to enjoy it with me I'm not ruining anything for you. So much happens. Good and bad. A ton of bad. So much of this book will rip your heart out. I do love that about Ione. She makes you feel invested in her characters. You feel like you know them personally.

Some surprises happen too.

This is a wonderful story that totally does a great job of finishing off a series that we've all come to love. I have to say that from the first time Azagoth showed up I knew he was the one to watch out for. Add the love of his life in danger and everyone should run. Why they thought they could mess with him through his wife and child are beyond me. They aren't very bright. But idiots have to learn and their mistakes make for an enjoyable story for us.

As I mentioned, I have so much more to say, but will hold it in until you guys get reading. I will say that for me this series is better read in order. Characters from other books are in this one and it's nice to already know who they are. It will make this story much richer. Do yourself a favor and start reading and don't stop until you hit Reaper. The good news is that each of the stories is great so you'll love them all.

I liked this book. There was a lot going on that kept my interest. I will note it almost felt like an end to the series and maybe it was, but I was left with some questions about the one guy that died (I’ll say no more for spoilers). We got some answers but not all. So was this the end of the series????

When I heard that Reaper is the final book of the Demonica World, I knew I had to read it, so I jumped at the chance to review the audiobook (I’ve only read the books before this). Reaper is the culmination of the Demonica Underworld story arc featuring the various players of, well… the Underworld. And while Azagoth had a novella with HEA/FN earlier in the series, his roll as the Grim Reaper is central to the upheaval that is occurring in the Underworld. This story is much more than a romance - it is the climactic conclusion of one of the best paranormal romance series, and Ms. Ione does not let her characters go quietly into the night.

Overall, I liked how Ms. Ione closed out the Demonica/Underworld series. I enjoyed seeing all my favorite characters from over the years - although I had trouble remember some of them. I didn’t read the most recent (previous) novella, and while it was “okay,” it was clear that events that happened in that book (Cipher) directly impacted this story. Additionally, I had trouble really remembering what had happened in the individual books leading up to this, which hampered my enjoyment a little. However, the author does a very good job helping readers like me who may have missed a book or two, or forgotten what happened.

The story is long and layered, but boils down to bad vs really bad (I would say good vs evil, but let’s face it, Azagoth is not “good”). It is about Azagoth finding his place in the grand scheme - he was more than done with his life as is and the restrictions place on him by Heaven. There are many moving parts and side issues, like a traitor within Azagoth’s camp, Revenant’s captivity, the asshole angels, and the death of a well loved character. Some of the storylines worked well for me, but others not so much. Specifically the betrayer - I felt like the author placed a few red herrings, but then the actual betrayer came from out of the blue with a bizarre twist for the reason. That disappointed me.

Narration: At first I thought I’d heard this narrator before, but then I realized he just really reminded me of Jeffrey Kafer, whom I enjoy. Mr. Solo has a deep voice, but he is able to achieve soft and light, with a wide range of voices for both males and females: from powerful to cowardice, from harsh to sultry. He varies the dialogue for each character. Some didn’t fit what I imagined them to be, but he does a good job making each voice unique and trying to match the persona, gender, upbringing, and breed. My only real issue was that he is very melodramatic, with emphasis and pauses, from time to time. It reminded me of Captain Kirk spoofs. However, I guess it fits the characters and over-the-top personalities and actions of the series.

In the end, I’m glad I took the time to listen to this final Demonica book. Reaper is one for fans of the series, and I enjoyed the ride.

My Ratings:
Story: B-
Narration: B/B-

Wew..talk about an INTENSE book. Larissa Ione didn't hold back. At all.

But first, I want to address that despite its blurb, REAPER is NOT a rewrite version of AZAGOTH novella. Both have different story. AZAGOTH tell how Azagoth and Lilliana's relationship start, a novella that introduced both characters even Azagoth already play some integral part in Demonica and Lords of Deliverance series. REAPER is a culmination of what happen when Lilliana agreed to become Azagoth mate and live in Sheoul-Gra. Their problems starting in HAWKYN, HER GUARDIAN ANGEL and then most importantly, CIPHER (warning: lot of angst). What happen in REAPER is the consequences of Azagoth's action (and he is the champion of anger management issues. So, go figure) from CIPHER ending. So, I STRONGLY recommend to read those novellas first before you delved into this one.

About intense, this book have me in:
"oh, no, you didn't"
"Oh, nooo you didn't do that!!", and then
"NOOO, WHAT THE HECK YOU DID, YOU EVIL AUTHOOOR, ASDFGHJKL!!"
Yep, my heart can't take it with what Ione did to "insert character name here cause I don't want to spoiled others" :P. But, if you insist, . Talk about a low blow. Its make me worried about what happen to my favorite characters. Like, "please let them be safe"; "please let Azagoth get his unborn child safe"; "please don't torture Lilliana again, she already going to much..aaah what you did evil authooor!!". Anyhoo... that mostly compliments and I should praised Ione to make me hold my breath when reading REAPER. Not good for my health, phew.

So..many things happen. Some bad and mostly bad, but good ending always guaranteed. Because if not, I WILL RIOT. You are not J.R. Ward to be so evil to make a sad ending, Ione, mwahahaha. All the bigger player are here, the Sems bros, the Horsemen, the uptight Heavenly angels (seriously something wrong with the majority of them. And I think Raphael WAS bad), the hellhounds, the Memitim and in the center of all that of course Azagoth himself and Lilliana. I will said their love story end in a satisfied ending. Azagoth will always be Azagoth with his anger management issues. He always raging in this book. But I can understand, because of what happen to Lilliana and also how Heaven like to bind him with so many rules. And not forget that his past about fathering Memitim is still a sore spot for Lilliana, even Lilliana actually getting along well with the Memitims. Their HEA not always a unicorn rainbow happy. Since Azagoth did unspeakable things and break rules here and there to save Lilliana, so there's must be some consequences. In which the title REAPER will make sense. Nah, I will not tell more. Better read it for yourself! :D

Talk about my favorite character, Revenant play integral part beside his twin Reaver. Also he and Blaspheme kinda have a "bonus" chapter if you get what I mean heh :P. Maybe this is Ione's doing because she doesnt't have their short story in Dining with Angels. The skanky fallen angel Flail that done unspeakable thing to Cipher also present and while I still hate what she did, surprisingly Ione give her some character development and major character-driven plot. Flail's ending is not what I think she deserved (she deserved to be tortured over and over, heh!), but well at least she end up as not a skanky character at all.

The downside maybe the last battle kinda feel anticlimatic, and the revelation of whom is the traitor inside Azagoth's Sheoul-gra make me go "Eeeh? That's it?". Like . I still think that the battle in REVENANT when Rev and Reaver sealed away Satan is the best final part and so far nothing can beat it as my favorite part ever. Also, I don't like with Ione change Azagoth's angelic name from Azrael to Asrael. Ugh, the later feel silly. I prefer Azrael since it's rhyme with Azagoth :(.

This is the last story of Demonica series (funny, that I think SIN UNDONE was. Then the arc continue into Lord of Deliverance. THEN, I think REVENANT was the last book!) and kinda tied up some major plots. Oh, also we got to know who is Jim Bob. Heh, I kinda guessed it when read the early chapter, since it's too obvious, lol. But, I'm glad Jim Bob really care about Azagoth. And talk about last book, REAPER set a new arc that will tell about the story of the children in Demonica's new spin-off, Demonica Birthright. For now, let the Grim Reaper and his mate and also many others enjoy their peace. Because I know it won't last long. Can't hardly wait to read the story about the children. Also, apparently some of their parents can be too overbearing (I can see Azagoth and Hawkyn will do that. ESPECIALLY Azagoth. And maybe Ares too. Maybe all the men *sigh). It will be amusing to read :D

Some note: I wish the cover is not that...ordinary, hahahaha. I prefer to see Azagoth with his grim reaper attire and a scythe. Yeah, the sword actually mentioned in the story. But scythe is cooler, don't you think? :D

I just finished REAPER and - wow, oh wow - my God, so good!

It's the end of August and I give 5 stars for the first time this year to 2 books in the same week; "Reaper" definetely deserves all the stars. It was dark and so touching, all of it. All that angst because of Lilliana's disappearance, what Moloch did, what Azagoth must do, and everything else. Jeez, what a book! It had me crying every day it took me to read it.

More, please. I'm ready for lots more.

“Let me get this straight,” Asrael said quietly. “You want me to fuck an entire race of beings into existence, create another race to collect souls, and torture evil demons?” Gabriel sighed. “That’s an accurate—if crude—summary.”

“With this, you’ll have the power to destroy and create. And your name,”
Gabriel called out, “is an angelic word that hearkens back to the negotiations with Satan over the great harvest of souls in the prophesized End of Days.”

“When we’re done, you shall, forevermore, be known as Azagoth, Reaper of Souls.”
Reaper starts off “... thousands of years earlier ...”, telling the story of how fallen angel Asrael became Azagoth, Reaper of Souls. From there, things get wild and crazy. If you haven't been keeping up with Ione's novellas, I'd recommend reading those prior to this finale. While it's not necessary, they will give you the backstory and buildup to the battle Azagoth is preparing to wage against the one who murdered several of his children. (Larissa made several comments on this review re: previous shorts integral to this installment and more)
“Sandwiched between two massive armies, he saw one way out. The world was going to burn, and he was holding the match.”
Lilliana is about two weeks from delivering Azagoth's first child to be born out of love instead of obligation. Her love has changed him for the better ... what happens when her life and that of their child is put in mortal danger? What would he do to save her? Those questions are the thread of this finale and weave it into an edge-of-your-seat ride for Demonica fans. Every character you've grown to love makes an appearance, some play larger parts than others. All empathize with the Grim Reaper and his plight, some try to help rein him in, others are just as ready to wreak havoc and bring death to those responsible.

Reading the finale of a series you've loved from the start is always bittersweet; Larissa did not disappoint. I loved the interactions with other characters, that she gave us a gory, gritty battle between evil and not-so-evil and think-they're-above-it-all from Heaven. We also learn Jim Bob's true identity. I'm super excited for the spin-off she has planned! Spin-offs always take the sting out of a finale.
The legacy continues… It’s a gritty new world. Nearly three decades after the events of REAPER, the Earth is a different place. The secret is out. The existence of demons, vampires, shapeshifters, and angels has been revealed, and humans are struggling to adapt. Out of the chaos, The Aegis has risen to global power on the promise of containing or exterminating all underworlders. Standing in their way is the next generation of warriors, children of demons and angels and the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. See how they become legends in their own right.
I'm also hoping Lexi Blake will write another M&M/Demonica crossover with more deets about Suzanne, Declan and his Demonic Activity Response Team.

Buone feste lettrici!

Saranno pronti? Riuscirà Azagoth a salvare Lilliana e i suoi figli? Lo farà a qualunque prezzo?

Cosa aspettate?

Buona lettura.

*I received an Advanced Readers Copy in exchange for an honest review*

Just wow.

I have to be honest here.

I loved it.

LOVED it.

Firstly, you absolutely MUST read the author's note at the beginning of the book or you are going to be mad at first and possibly not finish the book.

It's THAT important.

You really, really need to read that author's note where our beloved author asks us to trust her while reading Reaper.

It wasn't long before I figured out why.

I cannot tell you why without spoiling most of the story, though!

OMG! I don't even know where to start here.

The Good
The writing was excellent, editing great, or at least I never noticed anything!
Characters had depth and were consistent with previous books. This means Shade acted like a jerk when he was upset with his brother, but that's not unusual.
Azagoth... Just saying, there isn't anything to dislike about this badass. He's epic. EPIC.
The plot was hands down the most nail-biting story that I've read ALL year.
The story kept me reading LONG past my bedtime simply because I had to find out that everything was going to be okay.
I was SERIOUSLY upset and pissed about the events at the beginning half of the book. This is only a good thing because a good story will make you FEEL.
The end of the book. Phew! I was so relieved.
It kept me at the edge of my seat
I'm really glad I decided to read the author's note, though. Which brings us to...

The Bad
I was SERIOUSLY upset and pissed. I can't tell you more without spoiling it. I spent half the book wanting to throw my Kindle. That said, the author's note made me finish. I'm definitely happy I did!
It's worth mentioning twice, that I was SERIOUSLY UPSET!
This is the last Demonica book, I think!
I was missing the romance, honestly. This book felt more urban fantasy than paranormal romance. That's not a bad thing, exactly. I love me some urban fantasy, especially when it includes romance. Urban fantasy like that is like a paranormal romance series with only one couple, so it is all drawn out and awesomesauce.
Betrayal and heartbreak. Some things are uber sad in this book, with death and such. And when it is found who the betrayer is? I was upset then too!

My Crazy Thoughts Without Spoilers

I honestly don't know how to summarize this without giving anything away. I really, really don't. But I'll give it a shot.

This book requires a leap of faith from fans to finish and you definitely will want to commit authorcide at one point or another until you get to the end.

You will not be disappointed at the way the author ended this book and this amazing series.

Without giving too much away, Reaper is ending one fantastic series and leading the way into another fantastic sounding series, I think. A series that might be more urban fantasy than paranormal romance, maybe?

So Reaper is the end of one of my favorite series. I feel a reread coming on soon because I miss the Sem brothers (and sister) and it has been a while for me.

I AM looking forward to the next project from this author that seems exciting from the ending of this book, though!

The ONLY reason I didn't rate this book 5 stars is because it was lacking the romantic feels for me. Azagoth and his lovely wife spent the entire book apart, nearly, and in peril, so it was all action and little in the way of sweetness that I was craving!

But if the author was trying to make her fans insane with emotional upheaval, then she definitely succeeded there.

I have a serious book hangover.

I highly recommend this book for any fan of this serious. But bring tissues and strong faith in the author to do right by our favorite characters.

I've been a fan of the Demonica series for years now and it's always exciting when I get a new book in my hands. After a few years of shorter novellas I was really looking forward to reading a full length novel again and Larissa Ione didn't disappoint, let's just say that Reaper is a game changer in SO many ways. This is the first time we've had a whole extra book about a couple who are already living their HEA but considering Azagoth and Liliana have had so much going on as side characters in the Demonica Underworld stories I was really glad that we got to revisit them, especially with the way things played out in this story.

This is a really difficult book to review because it would be far too easy to give spoilers but there were some absolutely shocking things happening that completely threw me for a loop. Unexpected betrayals, surprising allies, answers to questions that have been building for several books and although this book was in some ways an ending it also opens the world up for a whole new spin off series which I'm REALLY looking forward to!

Fans of the series really don't want to miss this book but if you're new to the world please don't start here, you'd be missing out on so much that it really would be a waste. This is a series that has been building up for years and there is so much to explore as you get to know all the characters involved, there are a lot of appearances from the earlier couples in this book that are fantastic because we already know them so well. In fact this made me nostalgic and has left me seriously tempted to start a series reread. Reaper is a highly recommend instalment in the Demonica world and it's as series that all paranormal romance fans should be reading.

Azagoth, the Grim Reaper is about to be a father, again. But his mate, Lilliana is the love of his life and their baby is one of a kind. When something goes wrong with Lilliana's pregnancy because someone poisoned her and tried to kill their baby, Azagoth will stop at nothing to make sure the person responsible pays for what they tried to do.

Lilliana is rushed to a demon hospital where Azagoth cannot go but after the doctors figure out what's wrong and contain the poison, she decides not to go back home because someone in their realm tried to kill her baby. Azagoth is mad but understands that he has to find the one responsible.

When Moloc and his minions kill a few people that they shouldn't have and kidnap Lilliana, Azagoth loses his mind and wants revenge anyway he can get it.

Moloc wants Azagoth to release Satan from his prison but he knows he can't so when Moloc tells him he only has a limited amount of time to save his mate and unborn child before he kills them, I knew things were going to get crazy and they did. I loved that so many of the characters we've met in other books were in this one as well.

From that point forward the entire world is turned upside down. I've been reading this series from the beginning so when the real bad guy was revealed, I was shocked. I had no idea. This book ends the series with a shock wave but it was a great ending. If you've been reading this series then you have to read this book.

Such a fantastic “conclusion”! I loved being back in this world and Azagoth is one of the best characters. Very emotional and stressful read (get that glass of wine like Larissa suggests) but full of action and the vivid world Larissa has created. I missed Demonica and I was happy to be back. I also waited on the last few novellas so I had those to read and then Reaper. I liked that since all those characters and storylines linked into Reaper - especially Cipher. So I recommend at least reading Cipher as a sort of prequel if you don’t do novellas. Trust me! Can’t wait to start the new Demonica saga.

The Delight
It's the end. Yeah, my favorite series has come to an end. Why is that a delight? Because Larissa Ione does it such flair that left me satisfied, tired, happy, sad, and so many emotions that I call this an awesome book!

A little before the review...

It's sad that we have reached the end of one series with three spin-offs or three series that all come together for one depending on how you look at it. It started with Seminus demons (sex demons) and the family that these brothers formed. It grew into the Horsemen of the Apocalypse and then into Demonica Underworld. The series felt it was coming to an end with the book Revenent, but several novellas came out through the 1001 Dark Nights series.

I know in the my last review of Cipher I mentioned I was ready for a full novel after feeling let down with little stories. Now that I know why, I have a lot of understanding. The author's life just was busy with so many things that writing wasn't something she could keep up with. I totally get that as some days I don't know my left from my right and I don't know when I am going to get time to read. Reaper though is a full novel and I can say with certainty this is the end of the original series run. Larissa Ione isn't done writing this world, but it is going to jump some to the children's story as there is something coming in less than 1000 years that they probably will be dealing with...a little mystery to keep you going.

On to the review...

Reaper picks up right after Cipher. Lilian is back in Shegola very pregnant, but nothing is relaxed. Azagoth, aka The Grim Reaper, is in control of souls and that includes Satan's who was imprisoned for the next 1000 years or less. This has made him a target for all of Satan's followers, thus putting a target on Lilian's back and even their unborn child's. I won't give you all of Azagoth's history because he has his own book, called Azagoth, and enough little stories after that to give you an idea of his powers, his limitations and what he would do to protect his mate and unborn child...even if he is a father of thousands of children...yeah, read the story to find out.

The big baddies are out to get Azagoth to release Satan, Heaven is ready to pull the plug on Azagoth, Seminus demons abound, Underground General (the hospital for paranormal creatures) is visited, true evil like only Ione can write is put to paper and tears flowed freely at times. Yes, it pulled my heart out at one point and stomped on it, but she made it better. She showed at while we want to see clear good and evil, there is also a grey area that can straddle both sides.

What I loved about this novel is that almost every former character got word time. Each had some part in the story to end this run of the series. The focus was on Lilian as she does everything to save the baby she is carrying and Azagoth to what ends he would go to keep his loves safe, but also not unleash Satan back into the world. Satan and Azagoth don't have a good relationship despite what you would think.

My emotions were engaged as I wondered how the author was going to wrap this up and keep the ones I love alive. It was a close call a few times. One died. One was revived, and some were maimed or trapped. It kept my adrenaline running on high. Nothing is what it seems and they under estimated what a man will when boxed into a corner.

Overall I was thoroughly satisfied with the ending given and hopeful for the next series to begin. This book left me drained. A good kind of drained.

If you are looking for a series in the Never Ending Series Challenge, may I suggest this one? It had 19 books .... it works great for a challenge to get caught up on a series!

Reaper teaser 4

Excerpt
“I have no doubt Azagoth will stop at nothing to save Lilliana,” Reaver admitted. “But he knows that if he releases Satan, Satan will kill Lilliana. He can’t risk it.”

“What do you suggest we do then?”

“I can talk to him,” Reaver said. “Hawkyn requested information about a fallen angel named Flail. I’ll use that as an excuse to get to Azagoth.”

A flock of gulls squawked as the birds circled the palace, looking for handouts from Caila’s guests, and Metatron had to raise his voice to be heard. “You said he sealed off Sheoul-gra.”

“Hawkyn will open it to me if I can convince him that I’m not there to destroy his father.”

It shouldn’t be a problem; Hawkyn wouldn’t have contacted Reaver at all if he weren’t sure Reaver could handle the situation without killing anyone.

“And if Azagoth is out of control?” Metatron asked. “Will you destroy him?”

“Isn’t it a little early to be discussing that?”

Metatron rolled his shoulders, probably not even aware he’d done it, but Reaver knew he was testing his wings and his powers, feeling them out at the thought that shit might get really fucking biblical real soon.

“He can’t be allowed to release Satan,” he said, fire in his tone. “And he can’t be allowed to escape Sheoul-gra.”

“Would escaping be such a bad thing?”

Reaver wasn’t Azagoth’s biggest fan, but the guy had been trapped for thousands of years. He’d proven that he was capable of wrangling souls and navigating the politics of both Sheoul and Heaven. He’d chilled out a lot since getting mated, too. Seemed like it wouldn’t be a big deal if he lived where he wanted and commuted to work.

Metatron appeared troubled that Reaver would even ask such an apparently insane question. “Yes, it could be bad.”

“Why?” Reaver asked. “I mean, I get that he’s an asshole, but a lot bigger assholes are running around loose.”

Like the fallen angels who had killed Wraith. He clenched his fists, wishing he was out hunting them right now.

“Azagoth signed contracts,” Metatron said. “Contracts sealed with the powers of Heaven and Sheoul. We don’t know what kind of damage we’d take if he made that big of a breach.”

Sounded kind of minor to Reaver, but he knew well how seriously Heaven took broken rules and breaches of contract. They also weren’t fond of Heaven being damaged, which was why Revenant, while technically welcome here, wasn’t… welcome . His presence destroyed everything around him.

“Okay,” Reaver said. “Let me grab the info on Flail and give Hawkyn a call. I’ll let you know what happens. And, Uncle?”

Metatron inclined his head.

“I want this to stay between us for now.”

Silence stretched. Not even the gulls called out, and Reaver started to sweat. Metatron had always been fair and by-the-book, which was probably part of why Reaver had been such a rule breaker as a youth. And beyond. Hell, he still was, he just wasn’t as reckless about it now.

Responsibility was a bitch.

This was a pretty epic plot and ties in all the characters from the series so far. So. Much. Action. Basically everything comes to a head and you don't want to miss it!

Hmm. What can I say? I felt the tension was lacking. The pacing felt so slow without some credible the tension. “Reaper” was also a grim story that can’t stand alone. I’ve read most of the Demonic books, but Azagoth’s romance happened in his novella. I skipped Cipher’s novella and felt like I missed some major background information. This book was too easy to put down. Meh.
