The life and work of Michelangelo Merisi, known as Caravaggio, (1571–1610) is more fascinating than that of almost any other artist of his time. He overcame the conventions of the Renaissance. He was not interested in ideal beauty and the exaggeration of reality. His masterful use of light and shadow, as well as the revolutionary use of sacred and profane themes, renewed painting and made him a pioneer of the Baroque.

Este es un libro ameno, aunque no contiene información de gran relevancia sobre Caravaggio. De hecho, incluso diría que la información biográfica del pintor está un poco incompleta, aunque me agradan bastante algunos de los pequeños análisis que se hacían en el libro de sus obras. De cualquier forma, hay que reconocer la gran calidad de edición, que utiliza imágenes en muy alta calidad, y también hay que reconocer a la escritora, pues realmente no comete imprecisiones a la hora de dar datos, aunque se queden un poco cortos.

I'm very impressed with this collection from taschen. Would recommend to every art student for its images. The pictures have high resolution and average size.
