I approve of this kind of fairy tale, even though we're supposed to believe . That was the only part that was hard to believe.

The Champlain Monster by Jeff Danziger
Good story about a couple of girls who live and fish from the Champlain Lake. Have visited in the area many times and it's a large size lake.
One winter as it's just about thawing and turning into spring they notice some things and plan to investigate.
One night when their parents are not home they venture out and notice a calm spot where they put their shanty in the cold winter months to fish from the hole.
They start seeing bubbles and then the smell is like garbage bag of bad food when the thing erupts from the lake.
Scary after that and one goes missing but an elderly man has some clues to follow....
I received this review book from The Kensington Books and this is my honest opinion.

I bought this on my vacation in Vermont. I try to buy a book by a local author on every trip I take. It is part graphic novel, part tall tale, part history of a local myth. I LOVED LOVED LOVED the illustrations in this book and felt they really captured the spirit of the area. Fun to read the story of a legendary monster in the lake as well. Very quick and fun read. I think it might be out of print but I'm not sure.
