She’ll never be mine. But I can’t stop thinking about her, dreaming about her, picturing what our lives could have been. The mafia got in the way for both of us. Some things though, are destined. No matter how much we change, we’re still the same stupid kids who fell for each other before reality tore us apart.
I tell myself she’ll never be mine, but even I can see through the lie. She’s been mine since our first kiss all those years ago. I had to let her go then. And for years I thought she’d turned her back on me. I was wrong.

Now I’ve been hired to be her bodyguard until she’s wed to a mafia prince. If I don’t get her to the altar, they’ll kill me. But the moment I see her, I realize if she marries another, I’ll be dead in all the ways that matter. Keeping her for myself will start a war. Then again, bloodshed just happens to be my specialty.

Author's Note: This is a standalone in the world of Dark Protector that was previously titled "The Butcher."

AN IMPOSSIBLE LOVE!

Stand-alone.
LIVE! | AMZ US | AMZ UK |
Blurb:
I had her once. Or at least I thought I did. But that was a long time ago. Before prison. Before I became the Butcher. Seeing her now shouldn’t make me feel anything. It’s been too long. She forgot about me as soon as I was sent away. But all those truths can’t break the connection that links me to my Angel. No matter how hard I try, I’m still drawn to her, damned to want her even though she’s promised to another man. Being assigned to serve as her bodyguard is a torture so ingenious that I have to respect it. If I don’t deliver her to the altar, my life is forfeit to the Genoa family. But if I do, losing her again may kill me surer than a hitman's bullet.

"How could this be so erotic? I didn't know, but I didn't want it to stop."

The Butcher packs a powerhouse of a punch with passion, suspense, action, and raw romance! Celia Aaron has done it again! From the Dark Protector World, we meet David Raven and his Angel.

description
"I was bare underneath, my ruined panties still on the floor."
David Raven met Angel when they were just teens. Both living in dysfunctional homes they found solace in each other. But they are soon separated by circumstances out of their control. Although years have passed and both have been through hell and back, they never forgot about each other. When fate brings them back together again, the stakes are high for them to overcome the evil deeds of their enemies.
"God his filthy mouth was going to ruin me."
Told in multiple POV, The Butcher delivers smoking hot passion and a complex plot. The characters are explored thoroughly, emotionally and physically, through every turn of the page. The intensity of the circumstances and the deep emotional ties between the characters continued to draw me in with each passing moment. The pace of the read is fast and as to be expected, Ms. Aaron's storytelling is rich with description and witty text. I adored both of the main characters and the secondary characters only enhanced the plot that much more. Fans of the Dark Protector World will be thrilled to be back with some of their favorite characters from the series.
"Once you've tasted a perfectly ripe peach, nothing else can even come close."
Overall, when Celia Aaron is writing, I am always ready to read. The Butcher is an absolute must-devour for those of us who love suspense and dark characters.

David Raven is an interrogator with effective skills of torture and growing up in an abusive home environment reinforced David’s need to inflict pain. After serving five years in prison, David is ready to resume life as an adult, but he never forgot the one girl who captured his heart when he was only sixteen.

“I felt pierced, something inside me beginning to bleed. And she was the arrow, her gaze the razor tip that cut through every bit of muscle and bone and hit straight through the heart of me.”

Angel is a fighter but catching a break is tough when at fifteen she is left with the choice of pain or compliance. Pretending to be “Daddy’s little girl”, Angel is running low on resilience until she realizes there may be a spark of hope.

“You’re cute.” I patted him on the arm – the ridiculously muscled arm. “But you don’t need to worry about me. I can take care of myself.”

With both David and Angel having had to fend for themselves, they formed a unique bond as teens in a world where it’s hard to trust anyone. David knew that his future would be dark considering his talents but he always wanted to protect his angel and give her everything.

“He returned to my clit, bring my wetness with him. “Once you’ve tasted a perfectly ripe peach, nothing else can even come close.”

Told in dual POV, the timeline spans an extended period with circumstances that build the plot and lets these characters face challenges yet retain their essence. Interestingly, this timeline ties into characters from the previous two books in this Dark Protector series. What I liked about David is that he doesn’t run from his darkness and one particular fact was a surprise. With Angel, she is capable of many things, and despite a time when she loses some hope, she takes hold of her true potential, which I loved.

In The Butcher, the narrative is simmering with heat and the underlying plot of vying mob factions adds action and a sense of risk. This book would appeal to those looking for romance suspense with dark elements.

“You’re the only one, Angel. The only woman I’ve been with. You were my first kiss, the only kiss I ever had.”

I loved this one! Celia Aaron works her magic delivering another mind blowing and heart pounding read. I adored Angel and David’s story. The sexual energy and the sizzling chemistry between them was intense and blistering. Their story owned me from start to finish. There is nothing better in a book than uniqueness that catches your attention and keeps you on your toes, to the very last page, making you want more.

If you want to experience alpha hotness, scorching HOT sex, top notch hero and heroine, stellar supporting cast and feel the beauty of a true love story, this one is for you.

F L O V E D IT!!!

Holy hell! That was an edge of your seat, balls to the walls kind of read! It’s sexy, dark, gritty, steamy erotic fun! I could not flip the pages fast enough!

Here’s what I loved:
The setup - we meet David and Angel as kids. Their connection is strong and immediate. It’s fun to see how they connect.
The plot and execution are masterfully rendered. Because of their history, I immediately felt a connection to the main characters. Their horrible circumstances, but unwavering connection really draws the reader in. You want them to face down any and opposition to get their HEA.
It’s hot - Gritty erotic fun! parts of it were completely over the top, but I love that about this author.
She doesn’t mind pushing the envelope and mixing so many wondering techniques into a single book. You get, mafia, OTT Alpha, Daddy drama, thrilling suspense, and action all rolled up into one.
Blasts from the past - if you’ve followed this series, this is a must read. I love Nate!! Like, for real. I want him to be real! That’s normal, right? Anyway, he’s always a fun character to read and did not disappoint in this book.

Overall, it’s an AMAZING read. If you’re a fan of dark mafia romance with a smidge of humor and drama...GRABBY HANDS! This one’s for you! I could not put it down! 🖤

This book would have been better off as the first one in the series since it goes way back. The bad men in this book were already killed off in the previous books so there was no thrill. The timeline of this one overlapped with the previous ones and was a bit confusing but I was able to get a hang of it. Anyways it was nice to see the younger versions of the guys. Not my favourite in the series but definitely worth the time spent on it.

Celia Aaron did it again!

The BUTCHER, 3d installment in the Protector series can be read as a standalone but I highly recommend to read the first 2 books before diving in, the experience will be all the more beautiful.

This book is the journey of Angel and David (remember, we met him in Nate!). Their story spans over a decade as fate seems to play against them. The author once again created two amazingly portrayed characters, tough, scarred by life. I loved their evolution from teenagers to a merciless fixer for him and a resilient, albeit almost broken young woman for her. The chemistry and raw intensity between them gave me goosebumps.  They perfectly complete each other, a true recognition of their souls. I loved David's protectiveness and his dark side. To me it's the best combination in a hero, he represents the perfect equilibrium between caring and lethal. And Angel's resilience and fight were so compelling! Give me a badass heroine anytime!!! I couldn't put the book down, completely enthralled by that nail- biting story. Celia's brilliant storytelling transported me in Nate, Con and David's mafia world where alliances, threats and violence rule and kill. The Butcher ties the series  together, and I can't wait to read more breathtaking adventures, with, please, pretty please Peter's next?

I VOLUNTARILY REVIEWED AN ARC COPY OF THIS BOOK. THANK YOU!!!

“I can’t live in a world without you in it.”
“Even if I’m married to another man?”
“Even then.”

This author never fails to amaze, surprise and sometime shock the readers with her style, kickass characters and off the charts stunning stories.

The Butcher is the 3rd book in The Protector series and to be honest, this is THE BEST.

I loved everything about David and Angel from the pure teenage love to the raw explosive one they still felt when fate brought them back together.

“Does that turn you on? That I’d happily kill, torture, or maim any man who thought he could touch you?”
“Yes,” she breathed.

This book kept me up till 3 in the morning, but believe me David Raven was totally WORTH the sleepless night.

“You’re the only one, Angel. The only woman I’ve been with. You were my first kiss, the only kiss I ever had.”

I hope I'll get to read about Peter Raven because his boyish looks so intrigued me.

Where to begin......You should know that even though The Butcher is the third book in the Protector Series this book can be read as a standalone, I promise you don't feel as if you are missing anything if you haven't read the first two books but I can almost guarantee that once you meet Con and Nate you'll want to go back and read all about them. ;)

David and Angel met as teenagers and this book takes us back to that time where things weren't so easy for them, and quite honestly things only got harder. Star Crossed Lovers? I guess that term can be used for them, and it's even brought up in the book itself. David and Angel have everything going for them....ummmm NOPE, EVERYTHING is going against them right from the very beginning.

I feel that if I continue with this review I will give to much away and quite honestly you really need to read this book yourself to feel not only the pull and amazing chemistry David and Angel have but also to understand the reasons behind their troubles. The Butcher is a Dark Romance which isn't for everyone but if you like organized crime romances I recommend you giving this one a go. Happy Reading!!!

Celia Aaron did it again with The Butcher. I absolutely love her edgy and sexy Dark Protector series as they always deliver all the hot and sexy alpha men and the sassy women that are their exceptions. I enjoyed this story and thought it was a great addition to the series.

I liked the past and present aspect of this story as it showed the initial meeting between Angel and David years ago and the horrible circumstances that befell them. Now it's five years later and Angel and David have met again. Without giving away any spoilers, I thought this story was intense and addicting. But while I enjoyed their connection, I did find the story to have a little bit of insta-love which was different from this author's usual fare, giving it a rushed feeling.

All in all this story was action packed, gritty, romantic, violent and so engrossing. Bravo! 4 stars ~Ratula

The Butcher was an ok read for me. While I really enjoyed the fact that David and Angel met as teenagers and they never stopped thinking about each other, the story spans many years and overall I was really bored. Anyway although this series has been hit or miss for me I will probably read more in this series.

**This is a prequel to Dark Protector and Nate, and while I loved this book, it lessened Nate in my eyes to see how much of a manwhore he was, sleeping with anything and everything, including numerous married women, and bragging about it constantly. All he seemed to care about was sex and he was in no way picky about where it came from. As much as I liked his book when it was released, I will now no longer see him the same because of his exploits in this one. Yes, it was before the heroine, years prior to meeting her in fact, but I can't forget what, or should I say who - and that's everyone - he did before his story. If it wasn't for Nate being tainted in such a way, this series would've been a favorite for years to come.**

The Butcher was the perfect blend of dark, brutal and romance. Yes, I know it's a weird combination that in no way, shape or form be perfect yet it was. It was the right amount of blood and gore for my bloodthirsty heart, the right amount of dark for my soul and the romance was downright swoonworthy. I simply adored David and Angel's story. I loved that even though it spanned some time there feelings for each other never faded or wavered.

I definitely recommend to lovers of dark romance.

The Butcher is dark, brutal, and beyond brilliant! This five star read is definitely a must read for those with an appreciable of darker reads.

David is a blood thirsty alpha with extreme control issues that make him as yummy as ever! Angel is damaged but strong. She’s the ting to David’s yang.

As a loyal reader of Aaron’s work, I don’t expect anything other than brilliant writing. Again, Aaron delivered. This story is not for the faint of heart. It is for those who appreciate quality writing on the darker spectrum.

Aaron knocked this one out of the park!

Five stars!

If it hadn't broken my heart twice, I would have given this a higher rating than a three. This has to be one of the sweetest yet saddest stories I've ever read, and I honestly became a jumbled mess after reading it.

David and Angel met when they were 16 and 15; they were both from the wrong side of the tracks, and they were able to build friendship and, I would say, find young love at such a young age. But things don't go as planned for either of them. Angel's father sold her to this Cartel leader, and David was imprisoned for nearly murdering his foster father after this man beat his younger brother. They spent five years apart, and both thought that the other had left and didn't look back.

Then they met again; they're now 20/21, and he was assigned to be her bodyguard while she waited to marry a violent man. It was a surprise to both of them to see each other again, and then they talked about what had happened to them over the previous five years. They rekindled their romance as they plotted to prevent Angel from getting married. However, everything went wrong again, their escape strategy was foiled, and they were captured. Another nasty villain came out and made them an offer so they could escape. Because, really, there's no other way, David eventually chose to work for this man in order to keep Angel alive.

Then five more years have gone by, and I can barely take it anymore. Istg, I cried so hard over the wasted time and the fact that they were apart because it seems like the world is conspiring against them being together. The only communication they had over the years was a letter sent once a year by Angel. Though David never replied, her letter was like a lifeline to him and likely the reason he was able to move on with his life. I don't even know how to deal with this anymore. 😭😭😭

Even though those five years were incredibly miserable and lonely for both of them, Angel became successful with her business of selling stolen assets, and she became a huge name in the underground world for her work. All of these efforts were all so that she could go back to David, and she succeeded in doing so. Though the nasty villain was still around this time and David was still working for him, the man was oblivious to Angel's identity and didn't know who he was dealing with. This didn't deter David and Angel from being together again, and finally, they didn't let each other go this time. It was really a rollercoaster ride for these two after the ten-year separation they had to go through.

I liked it overall, though I felt bad about all the years they wasted apart. I think the focus here was really the romance between the MCs and how they fought so hard to come back into each other's arms. That's why I feel like the mafia-related aspect of the story was more of an afterthought. Anyway, I still liked it, though it made me cry. Also, I was so damn happy that, despite the fact that this is a second-chance romance, they have been with no one else during their separations, and that they were each other's first and only.

Oh, Celia Aaron, what have you done to me? I know that I'm going to get a good read everytime I pick up a Celia Aaron book, and I know that I will have all the feelz, but this one really hit me hard. Lots and lots of feelz. Crying kind of feelz. Happy kind of feelz. Angry kind of feelz. Alllllll the feelz.

As a teenager, David did what he could to make sure that he and his brother Peter were OK, and had the money that they needed so that they could plan their escape. At 16, David was working as an enforcer for a mafia family. While he's out and about, he sees a beautiful girl, and he tries to track her down. When he finally does, he meets Angel.

Angel is 15 and trying to make sure that she has enough money to escape her father. She breaks into house, picks pockets, breaks into cars, does what she can to pick up money here and there. When she runs into David, she starts to talk to him and they connect in important ways.

OMG, Angel and David. David and Angel. They take star-crossed to a new level and to levels I would never want to go to. Their connection though, that's nearly magical. Everything they have to go through separately seems like it should break them down.

I love these two characters so much, and Celia Aaron does what she does so well with them, she puts so many layers on them and makes them broken and whole at the same time.

David Raven was made for the role of the Butcher, tall and strong and terrifying even to those he reports to. Angel, though, is sweet and innocent, her fearless nature taken from her. As youth living in broken homes they found allies in each other, the comfort of each other's arms just one night enough to tell them they're meant to be. The hard world they were born into though wants to chew them up and spit them out, separating them for 5 years and putting each on a path they can't escape from. When David sees her again, beautiful and broken, he knows he'll do whatever it takes to have her.

"I was his little bobble head doll. Beautiful but hollow."

I love Celia Aaron's Protector series, each standalone made up of terrifying men with hearts made for for loving. The Butcher was no different, an erotic, suspenseful romance that tells the tale of two young adults trapped in the mafia world that was impossible to put down. While David seems made for it, accustomed and even enjoying the bloodshed, Angel is not for the life. She's clearly broken, a doll for the men who rule her life, but she had a bite to her and I liked watching young Angel come back out of her shell. As the story progresses we see the characters develop further, with David comfortable with the darkness and Angel embracing it as she learns to fight evil with the same darkness. On top of the action and mafia drama there is a romance, with these two driven by a youthful love, the kind no one forgets, and by lust that simmers between them. They're meant to be, they can see that, but those who run the show aren't about to let them go.

"I was just the guy for the job. No one else could touch the depths of brutality I would willingly plumb. After all, I was the Butcher"

Told in dual POVs, The Butch is the dual-POV story of two star-crossed lovers and the risks they're willing to take. Bodies fall, lives are threatened, and yet love keeps them both fighting. David and Angel's novel is full of twists and turns, with Angel as David's guiding light. I highly recommend each standalone in this series and am so happy we have a new Protector to lust after.

David-Celia-Aaron

Salve lettori,

come state?

4.3 ⭐️

This book exceeded my expectations!

This was worth reading just for two reasons:

1. The heroine
2. The epilogue ❤️

Needless to say, I loved this book.

I am so upset with myself because as I was reading I realised I missed book 2 stupid me so of course I'll be reading Nate.

I really enjoyed Angel and David's story and because we get past and present we really get to know them really well. This author always gives us a hero who is both dark and tender David just stole my heart. Young Angel is strong and fearless she's such a great character.

When circumstances bring them back together everything has changed David is now 'The Butcher' and Angel is trapped and Angel is recognisable from the girl he used to know.

I may be strange but I love the way this author writes her men I can't help but fall for them everytime. The story follows the couple through years but you don't feel like anything is missed or that the story was rushed in any way.
