He kills for a living... but only those who need killing.
Mason Dixon, a bartender and assassin (semi-retired), is given a message:
His father has been murdered.
The man who did it? A rich rum distributor.
Now Mason wants to find him. And kill him.
Caught up in the wrong crowd, Mason Dixon just wants to spend his nights running his bar.
He thought he was done with the killings, the late-night assassinations, the espionage and bloodshed.
He wants to fish, relax on his boat, and hang out drinking the best whiskey he can find. He's a simple man, with a simple plan.
But once again Mason is lured into a deadly situation: he's been told that his father was murdered and that the man who did it is rich, one of the most successful spirits importers in the country.
Mason enlists his good friend and confidant Joey for help, and the two embark on a high-seas chase, fighting against the imminent hurricane and a well-armed gang.
Speedboat chases, firefights, and explosions become Mason's new reality.
The only problem is that they're running out of time...

Mason is a great guy to be with! Nick Thacker has the ability to make the characters so real and down to earth, it’s a joy and fun to read this series! A very entertaining thriller!
I love Nick Thacher’s Harvey Bennet series. His Mason Dixon thrillers are just as brilliant. “Death Mark” left me on the edge of my seat. Couldn’t wait to swipe the pages on my Kindle to see what happened next. The book starts off with morality, how we can’t change it or alter it. As Mason Dixon says “we’re as moral as we’re ever going to be.” That being said, Mason morals are somewhat questionable. Mason owns a bar mostly frequented by locals, but once in a while a stranger comes in. One such stranger handed Mason something similar to a coin and ask Mason if he knew what it was. Clue - if you haven’t read the first book in the series “Marked for Blood” I strongly suggest you do. Of course Mason denied he knew anything about it, but the stranger asks if it “look like his other little coins.” The stranger went on to explain the coin was found on a dead guy, Mason’s father. And now the adventure begins. Mason and Joey, his sidekick, are dragged into a mixed up crazy war between two mafia like factions. Both sides need to be played in order to survive, if they can win that is. This story is full of surprises, twists and turns, delicious characters and amazing adventure and thrills. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.
5.0 out of 5 starsWatch out for Mason Dixon! ByRed48on November 3, 2017 Format: Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase The second Mason Dixon book is better that the first, if that is possible. Nick Thacker has a knack of drawing the tension out until you just sit straight up in your seat. His descriptions of the boat and the background on Mason Dixon he throws in just enhances the book for me. I love all the drink recipes. This one is a really complicated one and you keep guessing who is on whose side. Sometimes it seems like Mason and Joey don’t even know what side they are on. This just adds to the mystique. Keep this series going Nick. It’s a winner.
I like Mason Dixon quite a lot. He's a bit of a normal Joe, so that many of us can relate to him better than most of the trained covert government operatives that are the staple of assassin thrillers. Nick Thacker has created a great character and placed him into some interesting situations and locations. I did like the debut Mason Dixon novel (Mark for Blood) a bit better though. This one bogged down a little in the center, I thought. And there were a few issues that could have been fixed with a more thorough editing pass. But overall an enjoyable read and a refreshing take on the genre.
I love Mason Dixon - so much so that I bought this one before I finished book 1!! This guy is a hoot and the author has a knack for phrasing that will make you laugh. Mason and his pal Joey and up working both sides against the middle in this one. Suffice it to say it comes to a satisfying conclusion. By the way, ignore the reviews complaining about typos or editing.....Amazon pushed the wrong version of the book and Nick expressly warned that they had done so.....So I refuse to hold anything along those lines against him - do yourself a favor and read both books in this great new series.
A heady mix of alcohol, nautical travel and intrigue
The second Mason Dixon novel has an intriguing premise. Supposedly Mason's father has been killed by an importer and one group wants this person killed, while another wants him kept alive. Follow the suspense as we try and determine which group is which. Much of this tale takes place at sea and it again features his trusty chef Joe. There is a liberal description (and drinking) of alcohol, peppered with gunfire and explosions. Another enjoyable adventure.
Another great Mason Dixon Thriller. This one taking place mostly on the water in his "inherited" yacht. With his Dad being involved he felt like he had no choice but to get involved despite his feelings for his father. Lots of booze talk which I like. And, made me crave a whisky sour. Lots of twists and surprises. Not really sure whose side he should be on. Thacker is a good storyteller and this was a good book to read.
'Death Mark' was full of action, adventure, hairy situations and lots of thrilling scenes. Mason and Joey are pushed to their limits at times and their knack for getting out of scuffles is impressive. I love the bits of humor, sarcasm and banter between Mason and whomever is on the receiving end. Joey has proven once again that he's one heck of an ally. Overall it's a pretty good addition to what's becoming a great series. A definite must add to your tbr list. Recommended.
I enjoyed this book. Mason Dixon is a modern day bar owner/bartender and aging assassin — or he used to be. Note: he only kills people who need to be killed. This time, the bad guys have Joey’s girlfriend & the other bad guys are threatening to take his bar if he won’t help them. It’s time for a plan.
The second book in the Mason Dixon series is even better than the first. Ridding the world of villains in his own inimitable fashion Mason Dixon has been fleshed out as a fascinating vigilante style hero with his sidekick Joey. Clive Cussler fans will love this series.
We learn more about Mason and his family. He is put in a no win situation and doesn't die. I wouldn't call it a win though. It was a little slow to start, but it makes sense because it is a build up to the final fight. I like the lack of romance in this, but there are still people worth fighting for. I like how relatable Mason and Joey are. Very enjoyable.
Ikr a good drink, books are meant to be savored. It so Mason Dixon would have you believe. I have read the first two in this series, and although I found the first one more enjoyable, this one was a good read. This is a good fun read, and the storyline moves along quickly.
Another winner from Nick Thacker - Mason Dixon is one of my favorite characters, an almost reluctant hero who does what he thinks is right even when he doesn't want to. It may be time for a road trip to Edisto Beach - I'd like to have a bourbon with Mason and Joey at the bar. I can't wait to read their next adventure!
Continuation of a series. I would recommend reading them in order due to the backstory.
This series is a fun read, which is unexpected for a thriller. Mason is the kind of guy you could see yourself having a drink with. The author is able to portray the main character as a normal guy, despite his profession as an assassin.
Mason in a no win situation, again!, it would seem his father determined Mason should not not remain as a mixologist. Can his father's murder bring the vigilante out once more???
This is the second Mason Dixon story I have had the pleasure to read. The story is well structured and has enough twist and turns to keep it exciting. The action when required is executed smoothly and becomes part of moving the story forward. I hope we see much more of this bartender.
Plans never seem to work out for Mason, there's always someone that throws a spanner right in the works. An intricately woven story with many players, it never failed to thrill and surprise.
Great read. Nick keeps you interested and wanting more. Quick reading with good characters. Mason is quickly becoming someone you keep wanting to see what he gets into next!
Great read, looking forward to more Dixon adventures
Overall an entertaining read as most of nick Thacker books are. I however have a recommendation, please do a little more proof reading. There are quite a bit of spelling errors in the book.
Good read after first in series. Liked Dixon more in this book. Usual action packed but really not a believable story line or plot. I like nicks action style but hope in future Dixon books he gets plots a little more believable. But all in all a good read
Not as good as book 1, but still a solid story. It stalls a little while the boat is floating around in the middle of nowhere. Then picks up the last part of the book.
Nick Thacker has done it again. When you think there are no fresh ideas out there, here it comes. Mason Dixon is, if.nothing else, is a fresh new face in the mystery world. A lot different and very exciting.
Mason gets a message, he now wants the guy for murdering his father, With Joey , it begins not stop action. The author gives a depth to his characters, even to those that come to his bar. This is book two and does not disappoint.
Mason doesn't like planning since plans are always destroyed by reality. Mason gets sucked into either protecting or killing a man. Then it gets complicated. I enjoyed this book.
Highly readable with good action sequences. Occasional errors, for example, ' were, instead of the word was'. Also , some confusing scenes that didn't make sense. However a good read and the inconsistencies are minor compared to the whole story.
Mason Dixon is faced with the disappearance of his father, presumed dead. Circumstances occur which inveigles Mason into a new unknown world of espionage and deadly guards. Read on and find out. Very good
