The first six mysteries in the popular Darcy Sweet Cozy Mystery series: Death Comes to Town, Mists of the Past, From the Ashes, The Ghost of Christmas, The Stolen Valentine and Hiding From Death.
Introducing Darcy Sweet...
She isn't what you would call a girly girl. She almost never wears makeup and loves nothing more than to wear a well worn pair of jeans, a t-shirt and her most comfortable pair of sneakers.
She would like to think she is just an ordinary woman, but she's not. She has a connection to the spirit world that seems to draw her into mysterious situations more often than not. Add to the mix the antics of a rather naughty, slightly psychic cat and the eccentric ghost of her great-aunt Millie, and you have a life that is anything but ordinary.
658 pages of paranormal mystery fun. Find out why over 100,000 readers have fallen for Darcy Sweet!
Pick up your copy of the box set to get six books you won't want to put down!
Most guys I know tell me that they don't care much about cozy mystery novellas like these, but I point them in this direction anyway for the quality of the stories. Sure, Darcy has one of my least favorite character traits. She abdicates responsibility for her actions sometimes by claiming that she "just has to." That is the stupidest reason in the world to do something. It means that you don't have agency to your own actions. Ugh!
Now, with that caveat out of the way, there are many more reasons to like this boxed set. The first being that it is a boxed set -- more bang (more stories) for your money. For the most part Darcy is likeable, interesting, with affectations that make her believable despite the paranormal elements.
Darcy is the owner of a bookstore, who also gets inclinations from beyond, little psychic nudges that compel her to specific investigatory actions. In the first novella, Darcy's cat plays a significant role in helping her become involved in the investigation, when she finds her best friend's corpse. From there, we learn that her sister, a police detective, has an attractive new partner. The sparks fly in disparate ways.
The characters are strong, likeable, and believable. There was a very believable psychic, paranormal vibe that permeated the books, but I didn't find them overly "deus ex machina" obnoxious. Some cozies, unfortunately make the paranormal a crutch for ghost stories. Emrick recognizes IMHO that first and foremost, these are mysteries, and she gives them that priority. I liked them a lot except for my tiny caveat. Entertaining.
This author would do well to edit her books for content. Her main character, Darcy, was cute and likeable in the first book, but in the second one she became juvenile, rude, ditzy, and just ugly. Jon is a very poor idea of a police officer. Grace and Jon are almost a combination Barney Fife, except they aren't funny. They do not act at all like real police officers. The doctor in the second book did not know what he was doing. The whole book had too many repeated scenes and filler words, taking up space. By chapter 4 I decided I did not even like the characters. Then she tried to add a romance scene in the middle of this mystery?! No! No! No! It did not work here. These two characters are acting like teenagers instead of a police officer and a business owner.
This author would do well to figure out who each of her characters really are and then keep them in character. She should do her research and know what each character should and could do in real life - police, mayor, doctor, business owner, and yes even a feasible medium. The characters kept acting in unreasonable ways and the story was very disjointed.
A good college class on fiction writing, story progression, facts and research would help this author on her way.
Honestly I feel like this rating is plenty generous. The books really didn't work well at all and the premises just weren't credible. The issue wasn't the paranormal aspects but the rest of it. Breaking into a police station, getting people arrested with no evidence, etc. When you ask your readers to suspend disbelief on the paranormal stuff, you really need to make everything else fully credible so we can accept it works within context. This asks for too much belief in things that just don't make sense on the real world side.
OK Emerick knows how to write interesting cozy mysteries!
I first opened the boxes set and was pleased to see the the layout and let me tell you when I started reading that first book, I was hooked, and didn't put it down until the next day!! I love the connection between Darcy and Jon and while they are very romantic, it is in sweet way that doesn't make you uncomfortable. The stories are interesting and humorous so for me these books has everything I like and I enjoyed them immensely and highly recommend you give them a go to.
These have been nice to have on hand in my phone to read when I have some spare time. It was easy to confuse with Secret, Book, and Scone Society since they both have a young woman with a touch of the paranormal who owns a bookstore and solves mysteries in a small town. Also both have a boyfriend with a name that starts with a J and a friend who owns the local bakery whose name starts with an H.
So Darcy owns a bookstore, and can see ghosts. OK; I can live with that, even with its cliches. Realism ends at that point. She falls for a guy with gorgeous eyes, and he professes "deep feelings" when they've had about 15 minutes conversation all told. Darcy's sister is a police *detective* who leaves her office keys hanging on a hook inside her front door. Darcy's cat solves the mystery, sorta.
The characters are so poorly developed in the first book that I did not bother to read the other five. I had to plod through this, and then had to endure the story *again* in a "bonus" chapter written from the cat's POV. I wasn't going to go through *that* again.
Worse still were the errors in capitalization (since when is "library" capitalized when not part of a proper name) and the utter lac of comma use. I got very tired of having to read a 4- or 5-sentence paragraph over again because the lack of commas made the meaning unclear on first read.
Even though I got this box set for free on one of the free Kindle book sites, I won't be reading the next volume.
This set of Six books is a nice exciting read! Darcy Sweet is a young lady raised by her Aunt Millie who can talk to the Dead. Darcy inherited her aunt’s House and Book Store. The good and Bad thing about that is after Aunt Millie passed away she decided to stay in the book store that she loved so much. Darcy also has “Skills” concerning the dead. The town they live in is a small comfortable city. In the first book Darcy encounters a new police officer Jon, who though she is attracted to him she has doubts about him concerning the death of one of her Friends. This is made worse because the Officer is her Sister Grace’s new partner. The Story gets very convoluted and intense from here. It’s a very great Read and by having a set of Six books you really get to know and enjoy the Characters!! But as is the usual case in my Reviews this is all you get!!! I do not want to spoil your Read of them!!! All I can say is, these are very enjoyable and interesting reads! Enjoy em. Santa Mike
I actually have to say that this book set is one I really liked. There are not many book set out that you can say there are good. But this one was an excellent reading and it was free. The characters are very likeable specially Darcy Sweet, she has the ability to connect with ghosts to solve cases. But also gives her trouble with the community in Misty Hollow, but she has a lot of friends and help. The storyline developed perfectly in all the books, great speech and great monologues from the characters. The only thing is that I would have liked more catch up with Grace and Darcy mother the information would have been good. But overall I have enjoyed the free books set, happy reading!! It was fun and enjoyment.
Darcy Sweet is a kindhearted person who just so happens to possess some paranormal gifts like talking with and seeing the dead. She also gets these feelings that something isn’t right or something is going to happen. That and the mists start to get thicker in the town of misty hollow. Initially Darcy goes to her sister grace when things start happening since she’s a cop but as these books go on Darcy’s relationship with graces partner Jon tinker develops and Jon helps her to solve the mysteries. I really liked this series, it wasn’t too mysterious that it freaked me out, and it was comical and romantic without being too much. It’s worth it to get this box set.
Darcy Sweets and Jon Tinker Solves The Misty Hollow Fog Mysteries.
1 TRILLION GOLD STARS For This Series. The reason I gave it the rating I did is because of all the Paranormal Mystery books I've read through the years this series had me hook line and sinker from book #1 all the way to the end of book#6 were I was getting ready to pull my hair out. Darcy and Jon have a innocent woman from going to jail for a murder that didn't take place at all. I won't give anything away but say the Darcy had gained a new neighbor and a new employee. There is nothing wrong with this series that any age could read it Young Adults to Seniors its that good of series. And yes I would recommend this to any who love Paranormal Mysteries. Now I need to get the second box set of this series
Even though you may know how the story ends, it's the 'leading up to' part that grabs you. Everyone probably knows how series will go; there's a main character who is in each book. The plots are different based around the character. I have different feelings about this type of writing. It's the same as any tv series.
What I have an issue with is grammar, spelling is awful, typographical errors, and using the wrong word. Bring and Take are two words which, in my opinion, are used incorrectly quite often. Think about it next time you come across either of them.
This is a really 'sweet' series. Enjoy.
I'm not an editor in real life; I only play one. 😃
A really fabulous and enjoyable series and I hope at some stage to read the rest. A mix of Physic abilities that I felt included a little magic as well. A cat who feels he owns his owner. This has romance as well and a little bit of heat on the low down. Plots are varied and interesting, a few twists and some suspense. Characters are believable and loveable, you get to know the main ones quite well and understand their vulnerable sides. Gripping but easy to put down and pick up without losing momentum which is nice. My first read by this author but will definitely be looking out for more book offers from her. This was a free set offer at the time of buying and well worth reading.
The first 6 books of K.J. Emrick's Darcy Sweet Mysteries are more than wonderful. The paranormal side is clever and well thought out, without being over thd top or, over used. Darcy's ability grows when something new is needed, but the police work is just as important to the stories. Darcy's family life is beautifully inluded as iis her budding romance with the towns new police officer. You learn to know that when the mist in Misty Hollow appears, danger does too.
It is my first time reading this author and found the ,s refreshing after reading many thriller novels. The author held my attention through it the series based on a small town that had mystic atmosphere. Each novel was about a young women who could speak with the dead. That got her in a world of trouble many times. Her boyfriend was a policeman and she was utilizing his position at the police station to help her solve her visions, which often got her into a lot of trouble. I enjoyed the series as a lighter type of thriller series.
I decided to try out the book set when I saw that it was free on Kindle, because even if I didn't fall in love with the characters, I didn't have to continue after the 6th book. I liked the first novel in this box set, it showed promise, but I found after that, the rest was just okay, and at times, predictable. If you're looking for something to read, have nothing in your current bookshelf that you want to read, and are broke, then give this set a try. And, if you're not totally enamored after, you can stop reading the series.
A sweet set of six mysteries well written. Right to the end of each I had no idea who and yet the clues were there. One book has a rather interesting twist and I was expecting more of the same in subsequent novels. Brought a smile to my face.
As a boxset (all 14 in the series are in 3 boxsets) each novel is written as a stand alone book with numerous explanations of the background of characters which are obvious superfluous in the way they have been packaged.
This was a collection of a fun series. I liked Darcy Sweet and the rest of the Misty Hallow gang. While the series didn't necessarily wow me speechless and none of the mysteries super surprised me by the outcomes, I still liked reading them. The plots of each story are pretty quick, so development can be lacking and/or rushed feeling. But sometimes I just want a quick light-hearted read and these do fit such a mold.
It was an excellent read I enjoyed each ani felt as though I was thst pd every one of the mysteries I felt as though I was there helping to solve the mystery this is the first time I ha w read this author but I will be reading many more of her books
This was an excellent read I enjoyed each and every one of the mysteries just felt as though I was there helping to solve the mysteries I will b reading many more books from this zuybor
Well, the writing is just a tad juvenile, Darcy did this, Darcy did that, plus the sunlight shined, instead of shone, a mix up of names. But in defence this set of books is a harmless look at a quirkily encompassing town ( fiction right there) of everyone, a time waster really nothing to ingnite a will to read it all or inspire better thoughts or well, anything really. Just a pleasant enough waste of time
I enjoyed these cozy mysteries in what sounds like a wonderful little town with all kinds of secrets. I recommend these series of books to anyone who is looking for a clean read about wander, mystery, romance, and relationships. I could not forget to mention a little mystic about the main character. It is the very charm of the book series. I gave it a 5 star for its entertaining element. It's not too dark and not too...well...encyclopedia brownish.
I had to leave a review on this (box set) version as well as the individual book because I didn't understand the high ratings for this series. The books are so cringey, especially the cat's "narration" of the story. It's always awkward when writers (specially amateurs) try to humanise animal emotions and this book is not an exception and fails terribly. I found it painful and exhausting to finish the books.
Get to know Darcy sweet, a psychic mystery solver. This book set kept me reading to the end, lite stories that didn’t drag you down with unneeded boring details or gross bloody murders. There’s a little humor, a little romance and of course a mystery to solve.
Book one caught my attention in the first paragraph. Darcy Sweet is a business owner in Misty Harbor. Only Darcy seems to attract trouble. She has special attributes with finally honed sixth sense that she can't ignore. All six books can be read alone or in order . these books kept me reading. I'm looking forward to reading the next set
Just a little bit unusual, Darcy inherited a house, a cute little book store and the ability to communicate with the other side from her favorite aunt. Darcy uses these resources and her family and friends in her small town to help others. Sweet stories, I will be reading more.
The stories were engaging, making it difficult to put down. I didn't find her to be the outcast that she made herself out to be. Instead, the people that cared about her accepted her and her gift. People can find her gift to be annoying at times, but it's not like they stoned her. Worth the adventure.
I loved these stories very much but glad that I have finished these as now I can get some sleep as just couldn't put down .just had to find out what happens. Feel like I know the characters and can't wait to read more. Wouldn't mind meeting Jon 😉
I enjoyed all of these. Each one was different from the others enough to keep reading and they have a really good continuing story though each one would stand on its own. I do hope they resolve Aunt Milly's story in the next box set which I intend to read asap!
I enjoy cozy mysteries for light reading and the Darcy Sweet Mystery series hooked me with the 1st book. The author has created a cast of characters in a friendly little town and makes it an enjoyable read to get to know them all. Continuing on with the series is like visiting old friends and catching up with what’s happening in their lives.
This set has 6 absolutely wonderful books. Each book is a different mystery to solve. Every book will hold your interest from beginning to end. Darcy has a unique ability. Coupled with her ability and her police officer boyfriend Jon, they work to solve many crimes. I truly enjoyed all 6 bppks.
