Our Formation Pathway: A Regnum Christi Essay on Integral Formation and the Journey to Christian Maturity

Rate this book
One of the fruits of our renewal in Regnum Christi has been greater clarity in understanding the five main dimensions of life in Regnum spiritual life, personal accompaniment, formation, team life, and apostolate.“Formation” is one of these key dimensions. In Regnum Christi, we have always talked about formation, but we haven’t always talked about a “formation pathway” - that’s a new phrase, and I believe it is a fruit of our renewal. Our vision of formation has matured as a result of our reform and renewal. We understand better that formation isn’t just something we receive from others, it’s not just an activity we go to once a month. Rather, it is an ongoing journey of discovery and transformation that each one of us experiences in a very personal way. This Essay on Our Formation Pathway presents and explains this renewed vision of formation, preserving what was solid and valuable from our past while offering some helpful new insights from our renewal.

I just finished reading Fr. Bartunek's essay entitled Our Formation Pathway. I found it extremely helpful in defining all the aspects of Integral Formation with a clarity that I had not heard before.

Having been a member of Regnum Christi for over 20 years, I have to admit I wondered if I would learn anything new in this essay. However Fr. John brought out points in each of the areas of formation that I had never thought of.

In speaking of Apostolate he warned of the possibility of apostolic activities that can pop-up, not as a result of our own personal experience of Christ, and gave the sound advice to "prudently and prayerfully discern where God wants us to serve."

He tied our Intellectual Formation to the treasures of our faith and the development of a solid intellectual formation as foundational for a Regnum Christi Member. I loved his encouragement that this is so important "Regnum Christi members will not passively wait around for someone else to set their intellectual formation agenda."

These are just two of many important points that Fr. John makes in this essay. I really believe that it brings clarity and understanding to our mission in Regnum Christi. I hope that others will take the time to read and unpack this treasure as help to renewing their commitment to a balanced integral formation in their teams and in their individual relationships with Christ.

Many thanks, to Father John Bartunek for presenting us with a clear and helpful description of the pathway of integral formation.

If you’ve ever wanted to learn more about what integral formation is, this is a great essay to start with reading. Will be re-reading and answering the questions again and again as I dive into this part of my RC formation. Love that several resources are given for further study of this topic and others.
