THe emergence of feudalism in 12th century Germany isn't a hot topic anywhere, I believe. But Frederic Barbarossa was the guy on top when that system emerged in Germany, and used it to stay there. Barbarossa was one among a cast of very cosmopolitan and intriguing characters in one of the west's golden ages.
