This was a very interesting read where the plot is not quite clear for awhile. To be honest I wasn't sure what year the book was taking place until some clear references are mentioned.

Mae is escaping an abusive boyfriend, while escaping she falls into a nightmare. She's trapped in a town controlled by a White Supremacist cult not just regular KKK but a weird cult that performs rituals on Black people and White traitors. Mae's only hope for survival is Grant Dwyer, whose family started the cult and now he must take it down.

So this story had a ton of suspense which was good but the story telling was really choppy. The timeline is really confusing and the author doesn't take the time to illustrate the progression of the relationship between Grant and Mae. Their relationship is fire and ice for a lot of the book. I also didn't understand why Mae didn't ask any questions. I wasn't for sure if the plot twist was she was crazy and this was happening in her mind due to the previous abuse she suffered because everything was so fantastical.

This book had the potential to be really great but the plot and reasoning for events just didn't make sense. This was just a 3 star read for me.

Great premise but terrible writing

I only read this book because the premise sounded good. But the writing was awful. It was all over the place. You never knew which character was speaking and when. The plot became so muddled that it made the book boring af. Mae was extremely irritating and bratty. She stood her ground with Grant. But she was still afraid of Xavier? It was never explained what happened to him after he came and found her. This book needs to go back to the drawing table and be redone. Also, I felt no chemistry between Grant and Mae. They both had issues and sex was not the answer either.
