I don't often read fiction war books. This was a short fun tale, seems like the author was an enlisted man due to how disposable the officers were.
I was going to rate it a three till I got right to the end and it turns out it was all because of lesbians. Yes, you read that correctly. Seldomly do I laugh out loud while reading, I was completely caught off guard at the end of a WWII book written in the sixties having a plot point being lesbians. Although this is not a comedy, I thought it was hilarious.

A fast-paced WWII novel about a small unit of Sherman tanks on a hit-and-run mission behind German lines. The commander of the unit and his top sargeant have an upleasant history together, but are professional enough to work together while in combat. This advesarial relationship adds additional tension to the story as the tanks attack a village being used as a German stronghold, attack an airfield and then head over a hundred miles further behind enemy lines to attack a V-2 factory. The premise and the action scenes aren't particularly realistic, but those action scenes are well-written and legitimately exciting.
