Wyatt didn’t realize it at the time, but the decision to drive his truck down the narrow dirt road behind the lake that quiet afternoon would set his life in a direction he never anticipated. It brought him to her; the rest he would be left to figure out for himself.Charlotte comes to Patagonia, Arizona to escape life with her mother, an addict with a propensity for men and excess. Charlotte moves in with her Aunt Rose, a foul-mouthed, loving, and eccentric psychic who welcomes her with open arms. It is there that Charlotte meets Wyatt, a young cowboy from Tucson, working on a ranch before he leaves Arizona behind him for good. That chance meeting changes the course of both of their lives forever. Their connection is not so simple as summer love. Charlotte feels a tie to him and a recognition of him almost immediately. She spends the summer healing herself from a life of neglect, searching for her own faith and spirituality, all the while guided by her Aunt Rose. Charlotte and Wyatt’s exploration of love that summer changes them irrevocably from who they once were.
First of all, I loved that the male love interest cried In this book. He blushed and cried and was an actual human being. And guess what?! HE👏🏼TREATED👏🏼WOMEN👏🏼WITH👏🏼RESPECT! Wyatt was an awesome love interest! This book was so beautifully written. You go through all the emotions while reading it: wondering what happened to main character, giddy excitement when there’s the whole meet-cute, satisfaction, and then your heart gets completely ripped out. I felt all the characters were awesome and really well written. I personally loved aunt Rose who I felt was just a nice little added extra and really loved how unique she and the main characters were being psychics an all. I felt this book is perfect for any typical romance reader! I’m super excited for the next one!
I found myself deeply and emotionally tied up in these characters. That's when you know the author has hit the mark dead center. The character development and the scenery created were masterful, who doesn't remember their first love? I sure did and this brought back all the feels. Wyatt was such a gentleman and Charlotte has such a good soul, I fell in love with them early on. Rose and Garrett, what wonderful supporting characters. I found myself saying WHY wasn't Charlotte given to Aunt Rose earlier in life. If you want a deep, soulful read that you can't put down, this is the book for you. I am looking forward to reading the second book and rooting for Wyatt!!! Masterful writing Katie.
Ok, so I am a 67 year old man, retired Captain from the State Troopers who was born and raised in Arizona. I have never been much of a reader and have actually only read five books from cover to cover in my lifetime. I would start reading books over the years but they just didn't seem to hold my interest or compel me to keep reading (except for those five I read from cover to cover). My wife purchased this book and after she read it she suggested that I read it. Well, it sat around the house for a couple of weeks and one day I picked it up and started reading. I am a slow reader and this book is over 400 pages long which was intimidating to me. I was telling myself that I would probably put it down like all the others I never completed. To my delightful surprise I immediately began relating to many of the characters in the story that reminded me of people I know. Garret, Luis, Charlotte and Wyatt would come to real life in my mind as I eagerly progressed through the story. I completed chapter one and by this time I was hooked and found myself unable to put the book down, an unfamiliar feeling to me . The story kept drawing me back wondering what was going to happen next. On many occasions I would wake in the middle of the night to use the restroom, as us old guys do routinely, and would find myself wandering into my home office, pick it up and start reading. An hour later, while fighting sleep, I would have to force myself to put it down and go back to bed. I had been to many of the places in Southeastern Arizona that the story is connected to which the Author had described perfectly. I completed the book in five days of intermittent reading, which is a real record for me especially being such a slow reader. I know that is a few hour read for all of you seasoned readers. The story is beautifully written about two young teenagers that come together by happenstance or perhaps fate and fall in love. But hang on to your hats because there are many twists and turns in this story that will keep you wondering what in the heck is going to happen next. Yep, this book ended with me hanging off the cliff in great anticipation as to what will continue in "Snowfall" which is book two of a trilogy. "Snowfall" is due out in print in the fall of 2019 with "Somewhere in time" due out in the Spring of 2020. So guys and gals read and enjoy a truly delightful book. Katie J Douglas my make a reader out of me yet.
As I began to read this book, I was a bit intimidated by its length (for a romance novel). And while it did take me a bit before I really got into it, by the end I was salivating for more. What I’d pegged as a sweet, slow romance was … well, it was that. But it was also so much more.
Charlotte isn’t just a young woman finding herself in life and love. She’s a deep, intuitive soul that has been damaged by what has been acted upon her, and despite falling for Wyatt, still struggles with what is yet to come.
Likewise, Wyatt isn’t just a handsome cowboy, he, too, is struggling with running from his own family problems. But he’s hard working, smart, and loyal, and boy howdy if he isn’t everything a good book boyfriend should be.
Each clearly has a big destiny. But will it be together?
Charlotte and Wyatt are each so real in their own ways, and in their growth even throughout the short scope of this first installment. You can practically hear their hearts and minds developing as they come to understand what life and love may have in store for them. It’s a layer of complexity I didn’t expect.
Also an unexpected breath of fresh air is Charlotte’s Aunt Rose, a feisty yet grounding influence for Charlotte. But will her love and reassurance be enough to help Charlotte along her path? I sincerely hope the next books will give us more insight into Rose’s past and her life outside of helping Charlotte, as she’s a tantalizingly complex part of this story.
With beautifully deep characters, scenes set so thoroughly you can almost smell the Arizona summer monsoons rolling in, and a good helping of steam, this book has everything a good romance should. But it also touches on the mystic realm, what it really means to live with the scars of your past, and the strong possibility that we may have no real say in our destiny. Or do we? I’ll sure as heck be reading the next installment to find out!
Cowboys, Catholic psychics, and love come together under a hot Arizona sun in the author's debut novel. Wyatt is fresh out of high school and leaving for boot camp in October. He is only in Patagonia for the summer. Charlotte is nineteen and running from her past, into the arms of her psychic Aunt Rose, who is also Catholic and well loved by this small town. Neither expects to find love and both have demons to slay in their past and face a hard future. Wyatt has his parents' divorce in his rearview mirror and basecamp and the Marines in his future. Charlotte has her troubled mother, possibly college and the gift of a psychic. Her dear Aunt Rose is her guide to accepting this hard, yet wonderful gift but knowing pieces of the future is no easy feat. (It reminded me of The Giver by Lois Lowery)
The novel gets off to a very slow start but the writer does an amazing job of putting the reader in Arizona, swimming alongside Wyatt and Charlotte at the lake, watching the town come alive in the evening, and the Mexican American culture of the southern border. The characters are wonderful and endearing, especially Aunt Rose. She is the aunt or grandma that we all have that embarrasses the heck out of us with her blunt words and flirtatious nature, but we love so much and can't wait to be old so we can get away with what she gets away with. I found the beginning of book overloaded with flashbacks that I felt took away from the intensity of Wyatt and Charlotte's love story. Part two we start to see what battles these two will have to face to make this more than just a summer fling and all of sudden you are sucked in. The gripping ending will have you waiting for book two.
Not sweet and clean - Some of the language is vulgar and sh** is thrown around loosely.
You know, I really love books that have been written with such superb use of imagery, that it automatically transfers you to the location/setting being described. I promise my skin was prickling with the same sensation I would get from being in the hot sun when Katie J. Douglas described the Arizonan heat. I found myself lost in the picturesque desert for two whole days. I didn’t want to stop reading and whenever I could, I would immerse myself back into this fictitious book and escape.
‘Forever Today’ the debut by author and native Arizonan, Katie Douglas had that intense slow burn quality I love experiencing in romance books. I loved her unique style of writing and I appreciated the fact that her characters were so easy to connect with. They were so intricately layered with depth and heart and for me that made this book more realistic then a fictitious love story.
A chance meeting between a boy and a girl one summer, one healing from a life of neglect the other on a route to join the marines. Sounds very much like ‘Dear John’ right? Yeah, I thought the same. Until I read it and I saw for myself how much more this book had to offer.
This book is part of a series with a second book in editing as I type this review. She leaves cliffhangers and questions unanswered at the end of the book which makes me even more eager to read book two and find out what happens.
It's not a cliched romance by any stretch of the imagination but rather a bittersweet story that speaks in volumes about ones past and how it can effect your ability to live and love freely.
I know many of you are hopping onto the romance train and this is one book you should all definitely get your hands on.
INCREDIBLE READ! This book was so well written and incredibly heartfelt. I mean it when I say my heart strings were tugged, and my emotions ran deep. Charlotte, a young girl trying to find a new life for herself, and Wyatt, a young man working on a ranch until he heads off for the Marines, meet unexpectedly one summer. Two people, two destinies, and one heart.
Charlotte and Wyatt’s story had me so invested. Wyatt is a hard working gentleman. You will instantly fall in love with his character! And all the characters involved, like Aunt Rose (shes a hoot). The build up of Charlotte and Wyatt’s relationship is so genuine. Innocent and pure. You really feel the connection between them. I love how Katie took the time on emphasizing the trueness of their feelings for one another. Forever today is worth the read!
This book was ACHINGLY beautiful. An exquisite account of first love. Could any of us have been so lucky. And yet it is also filled with so much real-world pain—gah! Y’all better bring your tissues for this one. I cried like a baby several times. The women in this book are wonderful. I loved Charlotte, who is so sweet despite all the hooey her good-for-nothing mother has put her through, and Aunt Rose, the foul-mouthed big-hearted psychic. I highlighted SO MANY of her hilarious lines and sage advice. Wyatt is pretty swoon worthy too, I’ll admit. He’s my idea of a good cowboy: patient, kind, good with animals. This book is long, but don’t let that scare you off. There was not a single scene—not a single WORD that felt unnecessary in this book, and you better believe I’m picking up book 2 stat!
I was not expecting to be utterly swept off my feet by this book, but damn! While other reviews have accurately lauded the character development and series-setting, I want to focus on unexpected elements that the author successfully weaves into the ballad of Charlotte and Wyatt. (Pause here to avoid potential spoilage.) Topics like assault and addiction are not presented for taboo shock value, but feel authentic and integral to the larger narrative. Likewise, the author's inclusion of the intricacies of race and religion as they play out in Arizona articulates her commitment to creating meaningful representations of the real world. If you like romance with equal parts steam and soul, Katie. J. Douglas is your girl!
The story revolves around the mystery of fate, intuition, and destiny. This mystic world is introduced beautifully adding so much to the love story as it evolves.
A young love story of two people trying to overcome family struggles. Wyatt the cowboy gentleman is a soft soul, but hard working and determined. He is tired of making his decisions in his life to please people. Charlotte a resilient young lady as she survived so much being the only daughter of a selfish, absentee mother who did nothing to protect her from the evils of the world.
A love that builds so genuinely, starting so innocently as it should and building into so much more as they begin to trust each other and themselves.
Do you love or hate a cliff hanger ending? I honestly have a love/hate relationship with that type of ending!💜 I am so thankful to @katie.j.douglas for gifting us the Forever in Time series, because now I don’t have to wait!! I have fallen in love with Charlotte and Wyatt, they have a sweet and slow burning love story. I always want to love the characters I’m reading about, and Forever Today by Katie J. Douglas made this so easy! I could feel myself pulling for every person in this book. @katie.j.douglas has a very easy writing style and this book just flew by! Forever Today, gave me The Notebook vibes and I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen next!💜 This is available on Kindle Unlimted right now and easy to find on our Amazon Storefront, link in bio!🧜🏼♀️🌺
I read this book because my daughter is acquainted with the author. She gave me the book for my birthday, without knowing I had already downloaded it. Thank you Julie K. For becoming the great reader you are today. I started this book with no expectations but quickly saw that the story line was good and it held my attention. I have always liked a book that not only keeps you reading, but doesn’t allow you to know what’s going to happen until you get there. This book does just that and it took everything I had not to skip to later chapters in hopes of solving the plot. The ending leaves you wanting to read the next book because the story continues.
I read this without realizing there was to be a book 2 and was crushed that I didn't know the ending. But then equally ecstatic to learn there was much more to come. Katie created two of the sweetest 3 dimensional characters-- they're not perfect, they have baggage and edge, which make them both relatable. And damn if I can't find a Wyatt in my own small country town! Book 2 needs to hurry up!
This book far surpassed my expectations. I intended to enjoy it, but was not prepared for the emotional connection I would feel! Not only with Charlotte and Wyatt but with the secondary characters throughout the book as well. I want an Aunt Rose and can so vividly paint her in my mind! These characters and their journeys are from over and I will be patiently awaiting book two.
I found this story an excellent read. It's one of those books you don't want to put down. All the time I wanted to know what happened next. Of course the ending left me up in the air.
I read this set a while back and I can’t even begin to tell you how I enjoyed reading this romance. I absolutely adored this book. The hometown feel, down to the steps of character’s falling in love. I definitely recommend this book
Wow! Just wow! Not giving any spoilers away, but I was NOT expecting THAT ending. It takes a lot to move me to tears, let me just tell you, I was sobbing for the last 80 pages or so as a result of being so drawn into and invested in the beautifully woven characters of Katie J. Douglas' debut novel. For those of you who like a punchy Insta-love story, this may not be for you, but if you ever feel like languishing in a well written, character driven and gorgeously descriptive book set in Arizona, you will not regret it for one moment. I need to go and read book two now. I need answers to Wyatt and Charlotte!
I stumbled upon this sweet romance by an Arizona author when I was searching for something fun to read.
I enjoyed this sweet romance featuring Wyatt, a Tucson boy working on a ranch for the summer before joining the Marines in October. Wyatt meets beautiful but broken Charlotte while fishing at Patagonia Lake. They have the funniest meet cute involving fishing and a shirtless Wyatt, yes please!
The book ends in a cliffhanger, so I recommend you do yourself a favor and grab the three books in the Somewhere in Time series right from the start.
I recommend this sweet open door romance set in beautiful Southern Arizona.
"Grace is everywhere. Love is everywhere. Good is everywhere. Sometimes we just have to dig a little deeper to find it."
I had never read a cowbow romance before but my dear @katie.j.douglas wrote this. It kept me company through all my recent roadtrips, sooo first time for everything! It's a love story that takes place right in Southern Arizona and it was interesting to learn about the tight-knit community in #patagonia and the emotional journeys of both Ywatt and Charlotte. Learned some interesting things about arzona as well!
Forever Today is a novel that follows Charlotte and Wyatt and what is more than a summer fling. I don’t usually read women’s fiction, but I found myself falling in love with their story and I couldn’t put it down. Also, Aunt Rose is the best, everyone needs an Aunt Rose.
