He went to the woods to get away from it all. His past, the demons ever at his heels. And, perhaps most importantly, people. One million miles away from anyone. Save for the occasional visit from a client he had to endure. And that was exactly the way he liked it. Until one night, he finds her. Battered, scarred, tortured by the memories, in need of a safe haven. So he does the unthinkable. He offers to share his with her. It’s not long before feelings start to arise. Yet the demons refuse to stay at bay. And two fractured people will have to see if it is possible to come together… without breaking everything apart.
Jessica Gadziala is a USA Today bestselling author who lives in rural New Jersey with her parrots, dogs, and an ever-growing collection of houseplants. A lifelong dreamer, she’s been writing stories since childhood and published her first book in 2015. When not at her desk, she’s usually feeding backyard birds, rewatching crime dramas, period pieces, and 90s supernatural TV shows, or adding to her towering stacks of unread books.
This book takes the 2nd place among my favorites by this author. Nothing can beat 14 Weeks *lol*
It’s not a sizzling romance with countless sex-scenes, it’s a story about life and self-finding, grief and recovery. Likable MCs, human ppl – manwh*re and doormat missed the bus in this book ;-)
Amazing hero – good man, and not only as a lover/bf etc, but as a person with a good heart. His love and care for animals were phenomenal. Captain – this dog stole my heart.
The heroine was assaulted and raped -> no detailed scene. BUT!!! *my freaking highlight of the book* detailed scene of vigilance justice for her rapist, the fucker was kidnapped, tortured and killed by the hero.
Absolutely incredibly awesome!!!
Honestly, after so many books (incl thrillers) with chapters full of victims’s pain and then only a short and often painless bang bang for the villain, I was freaking happy to read a scene of justice with tortures and pain of a rapist. Rapists and peadophiles are the lowest scum in this universe. I don’t get why many authors avoid their detailed punishment in books, but write pages and pages full of their crimes. You write a rape, do also write a torture/justice for the rapist!
Well, above ‘twist’ made actually this book for me. I even didn’t dwell on the fact, that the hero pushed the heroine away – I got the reasons why he did it, but the silent treatment was a bit cowardly.
So, if you are up for a decent deep read, more slow than insta, safe, but without many sex-scenes and *attention* many epilogues, I would recommend this one.
Title: ➳ ❤- The Babysitter Series ➳ Professionals Series 5# Author: ➳ Jessica Gadziala ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ Publication April 28th 2019
ღ Meadow & Ranger Story… I'm back tracking
Ranger is the Babysitter, Delicate & considerate were not words anyone would use to describe this giant brute of a man.
Ranger intrigued me right from the beginning. Come on, Ranger’s past has driven him to live off the grid deep in National Forest, Where Ranger's; he thought the entire one-point-one million acres of the Pine Barrens were his home. that would intrigue anyone’s curiosity.
Let’s just say: Ranger would likely be the only person in Jersey - outside of maybe Hailstorm - that would survive the end of the world as we know it. Hell, he probably wouldn't even know shit had gone down. I think that I might have said too much about Ranger!
Now Meadow’s backstory had my curiosity piqued as well … how and Ranger found Meadow is somewhat irony , cuz he found her in the middle of Meadow half dead
I just loved how Captain took to Meadow, & disobeyed Ranger on regular basis for Meadow I must say that miller book is one that I’m looking forward to 💖 Hope you enjoy this read 💖
⬇Always remember⬇
📚 Hope you enjoy this read & also always keep in mind this is just my opinion+ Also I wouldn’t never discourage anyone from reading this book.
On to the next book, I believe Roan (The Henchmen MC Series) is up next in the Navesink Bank Universe
Yay I’m slowly but surely making my through this Navesink Bank Universe, my hope is to get to The Rise of Ferryn book near the New Year
Ranger’s and Meadow’s book is my favourite in the Professional series so far! I loved where the story took place, and how animals were a big part of their lives!
Ranger lives off the grid and prefers living alone with his animals, than being around people. He ends up hearing a screaming woman in the woods, and knows he needs to help her right away.
The shape that Meadow was very bad... she needed Medical assistance because not only had she been drugged, she’d been beaten and raped as well.
The story as a whole was so heartwarming to me! I loved how one of the dogs took a major liking to Meadow! I also fell in love with the rough, gruff Ranger! He was a tough shell to crack but when he did, his vulnerable side was so endearing to me!
I highly recommend this series as a whole but definitely this particular book is my favourite!
I enjoyed this one and Ranger was awesome, Meadow was amazing and Gadget and Captain were totes adorable and there was a ton of really great H/h/animal interaction.
Even better there was MASSIVE COMEUPPANCE for an evil coprophagic gutter gulping slime pustule and may I say that JG totally gets it - don't have horrible crimes and assaults go unpunished and say that the HEA is the recompense the injured character is due - give them justice! Which JG did admirably.
Super excellent book and huge animal bonuses, tho I would have given five stars if JG had thrown in a hedgie and some super snarky cats.
Ranger is the ex special forces babysitter of the team. After serving his country he moved into the forest and built his home on government land, he babysits the people the team needs to hide away for a while or just keep out of trouble. One night his dog alerts him to trouble and he finds a beaten and bloody Meadow.
Meadow lived a very ordinary life, she had relationships, worked in s bank and occasionally went out with her co workers until one random night changed it all. Waking up broken and bloody with no recollection of what led to her Condition was a shock, dealing with a hospital visit and the reality of what happened to her deepened her trauma but living in the woods with the animals and Ranger helped her to slowly begin to heal. As days turned to weeks she started developing feelings for Ranger and they finally get involved until he stripped away her safety and comfort and dumped her back into her old life but Meadow is strong enough to fight for a second chance at her happiness.
********* As with all of this author's books the bare bones of this story are really good but it just felt a bit lacking to me. I know crime happens randomly but Meadow being drugged, raoed and beaten bloody by a wealthy man just felt too random. Maybe if he'd met her on work and grown obsessed with her or something I could've believed it but the set up just didn't ring true to me There was again a LOT of telling here I've never been a victim of violent crime especially rape but I didn't think it was dealt with enough, Ranger making her leave because of her increasing nightmares wad wrong but he did have a point. I wanted to see her actually deal with and come to terms with what had happened to her. Maybe being in the woods helped but it was more like she built a wall around what happened and life went on?? I don't even know how to explain it but I found myself confused at the way everything was handled. She was drugged, violated and almost cut open I'd think it would be addressed better than this especially as it was so violent. This may just be a ME issue as every one deals with trauma differently Ranger kicking her out basically upset me, his heart may have been in the right place but in no way did he handle it properly I reveled in the way justice was dished out All in all while not a bad story it didn't really feel complete
No cheating H wasn't a manwhore, he hooked up occasionally with women but it'd been about a year I think the h had had relationships and maybe hookups before but it'd been a while, honestly her past was just vaguely referenced h was drugged and raped
I expected more from this book. Ranger intrigued me right from the beginning. A recluse who babysits clients, who lives off the land but I felt that this book lacked substance and a solid plot if I am being honest. It just felt off for me.
I may sound like a broken record here but let me just say that again: Oh my fucking god!
I don't even know where to start here because it was so emotional and so freaking good, I literally wept at the epilogue. And I'm not a weeper so that should tell you something.
Because this is a story about two broken souls who, when together, somehow make a whole.
Ok, so let's do this.
Ranger is the guy we met a bit closer in Ghost's story. And I was intrigued. An ex military, loner giant who choses to stay away from people? How could I be not? He's the guy with a big heart and you seriously cannot dislike a guy who loves animals. That's just not possible. We know that his trauma from the military service was the reason why he chose to live the way he did. And I may be a bit of a nosey-parker but I really wanted to know what happened. We don't get to know that, unfortunately so that was a bummer. But that's ok. I noticed that none of the guys would actually reveal what exactly happened to them so I made my peace with that.
So one morning he hears a cry in the woods and that's how Meadow comes into the picture. He finds her heavily beaten, drugged, raped and left to death by some fucker. And the trauma she goes through after that is heartbreaking. And I absolutely loved her character. She is smart and strong. A fighter. So after all the shit that happened to her, Ranger offers her to stay with him until she feels ready to go back to her life. And that's how it all starts.
I must admit that the fact this is a slow burn romance definitely added to the spark and I couldn't stop reading until I devoured it all. The chemistry they have, how she made him laugh, her fight with the rooster, Gadget's and Cap's utter devotion to her, these were unbelievable and made me grin like a madwoman.
What I also must mention is that we finally get to know Finn a little bit. He's the one whose story I've been most excited about since book 1. He seems to be the most fucked up from all these guys and I can't wait to devour book 9.
The only 'but' that I have here is just that I wasn't a fan of the ending simply because I was hoping he would be the one to go to her, not the other way round, but hey, that's just me.
All in all, I loved this book. LOOOOOVED it! I honestly don't remember the last time I liked the entire series this much. If ever. Now off to book 6. Lincoln's story aka The Middle Man. Super excited!!!

I am crying here now because it was sooooo freaking good, guys!!!
SO FREAKING GOOD!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
This book will forever be close to my heart. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
His past has driven him to live off the grid deep in a million acre National Forest, but when called on, Ranger is the Babysitter, a valuable piece of the Fixer organization.
Meadow is near death, beaten, tortured and left like garbage to die, until she is found by Ranger and she becomes something more…
Jessica Gadziala’s THE BABYSITTER has all of the grit, all of the hard outer shell of each of her stories, and once again, a sweet softness in the middle.
Two damaged souls, the quiet hum of attraction, alone in the wilderness…will they be able to heal each other? Will they find there is someone for everyone, no matter how high the odds are stacked against them?
Loved, Captain, loved Ranger, loved Meadow’s heart and well, Miller, that man is something really special! Another unforgettable, sigh worthy read where no matter what happens, it all just fits!
I received a complimentary ARC edition from Jessica Gadziala! This is my honest review!
Jessica Gadziala slays me again with another novel from The Professionals series! I cried like a baby, I cursed Ranger for being an a$$, and worried through some that Meadow might not survive emotionally.
I shouldn't have worried, Jessica takes care of her readers and her characters better than almost any other writer I follow.
Worth ten stars at least! Like every other JG book I've read, i devoured it in one sitting mere hours after it went live. Thank you Ms. Gadziala for another well earned home run!! I can't wait to see who you bring us next!
First of all, baby goats ARE the cutest and anyone who tells you differently is either a liar or not human.
Secondly, all dogs DO deserve a second chance. No living thing should see the end of it’s life because it was crabby or didn’t get along well with others. Shit, that’s me half the time in public or before coffee.
The Babysitter gives us a glimpse of a simpler life. A second chance. A life free from distractions, soul-sucking technology, and the basic but somehow still misunderstood concept that healing looks different for every person. No one emotional bandaid fits all.
Ranger, we have so very briefly seen before in this Professionals Series. Known as “The Babysitter” for those clients hiring the Fixer firm that may need to be off the grid for awhile. Getting to know Ranger was like waiting for spring tulips to bloom. You plant the bulbs in the Fall, maybe even forgetting throughout Winter that you’ve got them there, just waiting for above freezing temperatures to make their move. Then little green shoots poke out and slowly stretch their way toward the sky, before they unfurl their petals and show the beauty inside. We’ve gotten those little glimpses of Ranger dotted through other books in the series but didn’t really know what we would end up with come balmy weather. Let me tell you, we all ended up with a damn fine, lumberjack, growly, climb-him-like-a-tree, badass of a tulip if I ever did read about one!
Meadow could be any one of us. We all handle trauma and emotional injury differently, and we all heal at our own pace with our own way of dealing with things. What worked for Ranger, and what worked for Meadow, is by any means the only way to move on with life. Help can be found to suit everyone through music, art, faith, women’s centers, and professionals if you or anyone you know needs it. The National Suicide Prevention Lifjline is available to listen 24/7 and is a free phone call away, their number is available at the bottom of this review.
There’s an old saying, probably by someone or some tv show I could give credit to, that says, “push up your sleeves and get to work” which is how I saw Meadow in this book. Eager to take on tasks, take on her share of the work, and adapt to the homesteading way of life. Pliable. Not everyone could give up three ply toilet paper, pizza delivery, and Game of Thrones on On-Demand to rough it in the woods.
Personally, I’d do it just for the baby goats...but throw in a Ranger and I’d pack faster than roll of Tums disappears at a hot dog eating contest.
Side character notes were a little lighter this time around, lending more detail to characters who will eventually end up with their own slice of book real-estate on my shelves. Miller, who I would add to my small collection of bffs (gathered from other books and series) from Navesink Bank. Finn, who up until now we’ve not gotten much conversation from. Also, who I can’t wait to get a girl to dirty him up a little. Quinton also makes a pit stop into the story, reminding us of where this team’s journey began.
While this book was action light, it was no less exciting to watch the story unfold.
There are simple pleasures in life I look forward to. I love cranking on a car in the garage with my Honey Guns, the silent dance around each other while we trade off tools or grumble about who lost the 10mm socket. I love fresh made coffee and having the windows open when it rains. Puppy kisses and kitten cuddles. I love meaningful conversations and friendships that seem effortless. I love the feeling of accomplishment after you finish a home project that you never saw yourself doing, like grouting your own backslash without even checking YouTube.
And I FLOVE a JG epilogue.
I won’t ruin it, spoilers are not my thing, but I will say I’m so ruined from Jessica’s epilogues that anything less and the book hangover is guaranteed to be twice as bad. I’m twice as likely to bitch about it to anyone who will listen too.

WOW, that was a fantastic, beautiful and emotional read. I loved this book so much, I don't even know how to begin with the review ❤❤❤ Maybe with the fact, that I don't know why, but every time I read Jessicas book, it happens way too fast. I would like to slow down and have more time with the characters and story, but it's not possible 🤷🏻♀️ The way Jessica writes is so amazing, gripping and addicting that you are not able to just put that book down. It's not fair Jessica! 🤨 She doesn't make it easy on her readers, really 😉😂 Ranger 😍🥰❤❣... okay okay I'll try not to drool (nonstop😂😬), but oh my goodness 🥰😍❤❣, this man is like the perfect mix of caveman/sweetheart/bossman/hothothot 😬 man-mountain from the woods. And Meadow is the perfect mix of broken/sweet/badass women from the big city. The couples are as different as you can make. They say opposites attract or are they not so complete different? The story begins with the dark side of the world or rather the woods and proceeds with the long road of healing and appreciation, where the nightmares end and life begins. I don't want to give away too much but that's a book that everyone should read (I recommend beginning with book #1, this series is really amazing, but it's not necessary). It's a must read for all the light dark romance, with a big HEA, lovers 🥰❤ I loved this book!!! 😁❤ and I ❤ Ranger my newest bookboyfriend ❤❤❤
I have been dying for Rangers story. Who is the babysitter?. The elusive giant that hides in the woods?.
Their stories are tragic. There really isn't a great way to sugarcoat it. They've both been through some absolutely horrific things that the everyday person probably wouldn't survive. You see Ranger and Meadow were destined to find eachother and despite the circumstances in which they met. They are two broken halfs of one whole soul, they needed eachother to heal and move forward.
I absolutely credit Jessica for being brave enough to put that kind of trauma in her stories and not sugar coat any of it. But instead delve deep into the pits of darkness and guide her characters onto the path of redemption.
Both characters are broken and it's not a pretty light fluffy read. The depths in which you hit emotionally are absolutely overwhelming. The breakdown of the characters, the layers that are peeled back, the pure vulnerability that pierces through the pages.. it almost to much. It's crazy that fictional character can affect you so much but as I reader I felt their pain. It's a rollercoaster of emotions that go from one extreme to the next at the click of your fingers. Being truly broken feeling like there's no other way out, to slowly healing and overcoming your nightmares one day at a time.
I devoured their story page by page slowly like it deserved. I love that the time was taking for trust to be build, friendships to be made then lastly feelings to arise and the romance to slowly blossom. It was purely organic, natural just like it was ment to be. That's not to say there isn't a few bumps in the road. There is ... A FEW. You'll get anrgy, be sad and heartbroken. You'll feel that hope blossom as the relationship unfolds. You will laugh because there's some real golden moments in here and you will root for the HEA because out of everyone they deserve that the most.
Boy did Jessica run us through the mill of emotions and ring me dry. This story is perfectly written with fantastic characters and a story that whilst at times is hard to swallow.. is not one you'll forget in while.
This book, these characters... their story. I'll hold a piece of it for a life time.
That fucking epilogue cap broke my heart. Jesus I cried for a half hour straight. I'm a mess.
But that ending... truly magical.
I can't wait for what's next and I'm praying it's Finn!. But also loved Miller!!.
Ranger is a man who lives his life in the middle of the Pine Barrens woods which is part of 1.1 million acres of the Pinelands National Reserve raising animals and harvesting off the land. It works out perfectly for the job he does for the fixer firm he works for – babysitting clients who need to be hidden away. He is content living his life alone with just his animals to keep him company. That all changes when he and his dog Captain hear a distressed cry coming from somewhere within the forest.
What they find is a woman who has been brutally attacked and left for dead. This story takes us on a journey of two people who have shut down emotionally due to past and current trauma's as they come bond over over caring for animals and pick or gathering food from the crops.
Even though Ranger and Meadow are the main characters I have to say Captain, the dog, and Miller stole the show in every scene they were in.. So looking forward to Miller's story.
He’s “the babysitter” in their group of ex-special forces (for people who need to get off the grid for a bit). She’s the traumatised woman he finds in the woods after she’s been brutally assaulted.
Not sure about this one. I liked how the villain got due punishment, but wanted more of an emotional gut punch when reading.
In the middle of the million acres which make up the desolate Pine Barrens woods, Ranger lives in a self-sufficient cabin with his dogs, goats and chickens. Sometimes, he hosts clients that Quin's group helps "disappear" for a while, but generally, his existence is pretty solitary. As winter finally yields to a harsh spring, Ranger's evening is disturbed by a sound that shouldn't be there. With his canine companion, Captain, at his side, they find a crying woman covered in blood. Beaten, drugged, nearly naked and with a vicious slice down her torso, it seemed that she'd been dragged out into the woods and left for dead. Figuring that she might not make it if he tried to take her into town since the trip would take hours, he decides to patch her up at his cabin, and that is how the story of Meadow and Ranger begins.
As with many of Jessica Gadziala's stories, there is evil and good, senseless violence and justifiable retribution, sacrifice and redemption. Through all of this, we develop deep feelings for the people (and animals) we get to know, enduring their suffering and rejoicing in their triumphs. Another gorgeous story to enrich our extended Navesink Bank family.
This was a nice angst free read. I loved Ranger. He was an ex special forces soldier who worked on the down low with a fixer organization and lived way off the grid because he had trouble adjusting to life after what he had to do in the service. He had simple needs and a big heart. Loved the way he loves his animals.
Meadow was being attacked by a rapist on the outskirts of his homestead. One of the dogs, Captain, heard her and tracked her. Ranger rescued her and took care of her. She stayed with him, leading a simple farming life for a couple weeks.
I got a little mad at him when he made her go home. Of course he was doing it for her benefit because we all know men know a woman's mind better than we know our own. That was my only problem with him. In his defense, his heart was in the right place.
Safety: Ranger would go into town occasionally and find a woman, but he hadn't in over a year.
Meadow had casual hookups and had a boyfriend of at least two years whom she had lived with a while back.
They used condoms at first even though she was on BC.
One of the best epilogues I've read. I felt like I got a good sense of how they turned out.
In yet another book that is like the Wardrobe--bigger on the inside than the outside--Gadziala tells the story of Ranger and Meadow. Ranger is the reclusive Professional who 'babysits' clients for Quin's fixer firm out in the forest where he is squatting (ergo very comfortably). Meadow is a regular woman who is sleepwalking through life until she suddenly isn't. Meadow draws Ranger out, and Ranger wakes her up. With a strong supporting cast, two-legged and four, their story encompasses trauma, discovery, laughter, heartache, lots of coffee, and takes a turn into bloodthirsty darkness. I spent a good bit of this one really worried because I couldn't see them finding their HEA. I can't really say more except make sure your Kindle is in a padded case, because at one point you are going to want to throw it. Enjoy!!
Cheating/Other woman drama: 0 Violence/gore: hell yeah! Sexy bits: slow burn but hot Bleating and pecking: definitely Meddling fixers: 4
I absolutely loved this book and characters. When we first meet Meadow it’s under dark circumstances and you can’t help but feel her pain. Ranger, our hero, is part of the Navasink Bank “Fixer” crew and is the resident babysitter when clients need to get out of doge for a while. But he doesn’t meet Meadow through work, no he meets her in the dead of night on what is the worst night of her life. Ranger and Meadow’s relationship seems slow at first glance, but as you get deeper into the book, it’s really not that slow after all. These characters had chemistry sure, but what they really had from almost the beginning was a relationship and trust. I could gush and gush about how much I loved this book, but I’m just going to challenge you to read it, because I have a feeling you will love it as much as I did.
I have been anticipating this book since the first time we meet Ranger. I was pleasantly surprised by his story. Ranger bringing Meadow in to heal and try to figure out how she ended up in Ranger’s woods is the best thing that ever happened to her. He is a big , strong silent support who lives by very simple means. Cap is my favorite!!! I love him so much!!! He was yet another strong silent support that Meadow needs . And who can forget the goats, donkeys and chickens😆 I love how slowing down and living a simpler lifestyle really showed Meadow what’s important and who was important in her life. Meadows story will be pulling at all your emotions. Fabulous read Jessica! Recommended for fans of the Professionals series!
Jessica Gadziala slays me again with another novel from The Professionals series! I cried like a baby, I cursed Ranger for being an ass, and worried through some that Meadow might not survive emotionally.
I shouldn't have worried, Jessica takes care of her readers and her characters better than almost any other writer I follow.
Worth a ten stars at least! Like every other JG book I've read, i devoured it in one sitting more hours after it went live. Thank you Ms. Gadziala for another well earned home run!! I can't wait to see who you bring us next!
The babysitter is the fifth book in Jessica Gadziala'sProfessionals Series.
Ranger lives in Pine Barrens woods which is owned by the government and well he's not exactly supposed to be there. But the years pass and he is still left alone in his safe haven deep in the woods. Ranger has a self-sufficient cabin that he shares with his dogs, goats and Hens. He can go months without seeing another person. He's works for Quin and helps with people that need to disappear for awhile
He hears things within the Woods and usually leaves things alone but one night he hears something he can'tn ignore, a woman's scream. What he finds is a woman who has been brutally attacked and left for dead.
This was one hell of a read and a little darker then Jessica has done for awhile but let me say I really enjoyed how Meadow found herself within Rangers safe haven and then in turn helped pulled Ranger out of himself. This was a fantastic 5 star read for me.
Amazing main characters, almost seeming like normal people, and for once we skipped the detailed description of the h’s assault but got a good « H delivers justice and kills the rapist » scene!!! Also, she got to heal at her own path,no other woman drama/ judgmental friends etc. And cherry on he cake the H owned up his issues,we did not get the usual double standards : when he is an asshole he is a hot bad boy but when she is dealing with issues she is acting like a bitch. The twist at the end I could have done without but I get that it would have been too easy for 2 people with bagage to get to their HEA. I can honestly say I loved it😍
She has done it again! The story is so well written --so much detail that makes you feel like you are there. Ranger was definitely a little rough around the edges but just what was needed. Meadow no shrinking violet herself just a victim. I loved it.
I really love Ranger and Meadow. They are both unique, strong characters who are dealing with different things. This story was another great addition to the Professionals series. I have been waiting for Rangers story since he was first introduced and this didn’t disappoint. More review to come.
After finishing this book, I realized that there were more things that frustrated me with this book than I originally thought.
I won't rant too much, but I thought the beginning with her at the hospital and the police...they just let her go...like, yeah, your good. Obvious bruising lining up with rape, but its all good....like wtf. NO ONE in that building thought otherwise??? So, nope...
Buuuuuuuuut, I thought the love story was sweet. Each of them found healing with each other..
Spoiler------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Seriously with that 3rd act conflict???? He just kicks her out without a reason? At least tell her that her nightmares have become worse and that she needs help. AND THEN to keep her grandfather's ring for SEVEN YEARS....knowing that she used it for comfort, that it was the only left of her family. ughhhhhhhhhh I couldn't. I lost so much love for Ranger at the end of the story.
