Hector's Key is listed as YA PNR and is book one of the War of the Fae series. It does have some on page steam, so it isn't for those under 18. It is fast-paced and has a strong underlying storyline. The characters interact well with one another. I found it interesting that there weren't any chapters. It could use some more editing and refinement. However, it has good bones, and I look forward to reading more by Megan.
Hector's Key is a book about the centuries long battle between the Famorians and the Fae. There are fighting scenes, love scenes, and lots of fantasy. Not your typical Fae. There is magic and a bit of mayhem. Several flashback scenes.
I only wish the plot focused more on Hector's Key and was divided into chapters. I won't elaborate further because that would ruin the plot. I will definitely be reading the next book in the series.
I loved the world building and the lore involved. I think the book ended quite naturally, while also leaving things wide open for the next part of the story. I'm not sure how many more books the author is planning for this series, but I can already tell you it won't be enough (in the best way).
I do think there are some questions and situations that feel like they were mentioned once, then dropped. I'm hoping that they come back in to play as the series continues. I can't wait to dive into the next book so I can find out where this is all going.
This book has a little bit of everything: A love story? Check! Action? Check! Faeries and folklore? Check and check!
This book brings old folklore into modern day. I don't want to give anything away, so I'm trying to be vague. The ages-old battle between the Fae realm and the Formorians continues in modern day, and like all wars, things are complicated. Pick up this fast-paced must-read to dive into the tale of Hector's Key!
Hector's Key takes place in a world where mortals have forgotten about the Fae. An unseen war rages around them and Prince Hector's team is at the center of the most recent attack. This book is the perfect Fae tale. It has magic, mystery, love, hurt, and more.
Personally, my favorite character is Spence, the old war hero that trains the Princes. He and the good Dr. are awesome. Kuykendall has created a unique world in the book and given the fae their own cultures. I can't wait to see where this series goes.
So good!! I hate a cliffhanger but at least I know that I can read the second one soon. I was so caught up in the story that I almost missed dinner 😳. The story just sucks you in and doesn't let go. I get that Hector's key is a big part of it but I love that each character has been so fully immersed that it's like I know each one and we're beasties. I got mad, laughed and wanted to smack them at all the right points. Major win! Definitely a new favorite author for me.
Hector’s Key (War of The Fae Book 1) by Megan Kuykendall is an urban fantasy novel. This book has a little of everything in it from action, romance, friendship, faeries, and fantasy. From page one on I jumped right in and enjoyed the build of the war and suspense. I did enjoy the romance and little bit of steam. The plot was exciting and held my attention. I do admit no chapter numbers threw me off. Overall a good book. I look forward to more from this author.
I enjoyed reading Hector's Key. It felt like it had a little bit of everything in it which kept me intrigued. The book also seemed to read smoothly and quickly for the length that it is. I enjoyed this first book and am planning to pick up the second book in the series and read it.
