The future was ashes. Desperate to avoid the same death as his father, Scott launched aboard an experimental relativistic starship. Only two years would pass for him, but two hundred would go by on Earth. He hoped to return to an advanced civilization capable of curing his fatal disease. Things went wrong. Instead of arriving on schedule, Scott's ship returned to Earth four hundred years after he'd departed, and the world he found was nothing like what he'd expected. A new planet orbited nearby. Earth had been devastated and civilization driven into caves with only primitive remnants of technology. Oh yes - there were also dragons. Massive, scaley, fire-breathing creatures out of legend ruled the skies of Earth. Crash-landing into this mess with only a robot dog as a companion, Scott must find his way in a world utterly different from what he left behind. Giving up isn't in his nature. But to prevail in this new Dragon Earth, he must become more than what he was. He will need to become The Quantum Dragonslayer.

OK, so, the premise is kind of crazy. Near-future space traveler comes back to find dragons have invaded Earth. However, the author makes this not only work, but become almost a backdrop to the character development and exciting plot twists that are front and center of this story. Scott's struggles include dragons, yes, but are more focused on this new world and finding his place in it. I can't wait to see where his (and Toby's!) story goes.
This is a lighthearted story right out of the fifties sf! I remember reading books like this back then and loving them. Scott is not your average hero, in fact he travels into his future using relativity theory in order to save his own life. Too bad that somewhere along the way there was a glitch and he went 400 years ahead instead of 200! The last he’d heard from earth was that a cure for the disease he has had been found but now he has returned to an earth that has regressed to a pre technological society. The cities are no more , there are no planes, cars or computers. His space ship has crashed and only been saved from annihilation by the dragon that attacked him! Dragon? Yes, a dragon. So get ready for a fun ride and just hope that there are more of Scott’s adventures coming!
2.5 stars rounded up to 3 stars because, dragons, hello. Interesting concept that is definitely different from every other story. Not bad, just missing that extra something to make it stand out and capture the readers attention. The world and background need some additional content and the characters need more depth. Okay, nothing special.
In these days when I cringe every time I hear the news an escape into a reasonable light hearted fantasy is very welcome. It’s also well written, has likable characters, an intelligent robot dog and an adorable baby dragon. It also has lots of exciting action. I hope the author writes a sequel.
Really fun based future novel, this one does stretch the imagination a bit but the future is set up that we can kind of see how it all works out as a series if the means justify the end. I particularly like how the events were set into motion and wonder of some conversation like this is a foretelling or based on fact.
While I thought the book was a little short, it flowed smoothly and was a good story. The ending was better than I expected and had a nice twist added. Definitely looking forward to next in the series.
I enjoyed this story very much. I hope to see more books about Scott, Toby, and especially Gorbash. I really liked the feel of this story. It had a lightness to it, while still being engrossing and action packed. Very good writing!
I really enjoyed the story line and the characters. A different cause for the apocalypse from most of the apocalyptic stories I’ve read. Hope there more to come.
